Interview with Model Society

This morning I was interviewed by Samantha, the curation manager at Model Society. It was a revealing conversation for me. Samatha asked some great and probing questions which I answered as honestly as I possibly could. The results of the interview will be seen on their YouTube channel, and to go with the interview they are fea...

Wind Song - Video

This was the 3rd of 7 short videos I put together for my presentation, given at Art of Light Studios in Balmain, Sydney. This video illustrated the part of the presentation that dealt with one of the big realisations I've had on my photographic journey which was about movement. Part way through the video I added some stills captured directly from the video which illustrated the point. Stay tuned as I'm putting together some tutorials from the presentation and they'll be made available here on...

The Wind Eroded Cave

We shot a lovely set in this huge sandstone cave. Aurora's hair and skin colour was an amazing match with the beautiful sandstone colours of the cave.

Yes I shoot men, and everyone else.

If you're here for pussy only, then that's not what or why I do what I do, just one small dimension of being a portrait photographer. So if you've reduced my work in your mind to pussy, then do me a favour and fuck off now.

Ros [Set 1]

This set is a small selection from 2 days of shooting with Ros in and around Cairns, QLD. It's a mixture of analog and digital, the analog from the Pentax 67 and digital from a D800. We're heading back up to Cairns and Kuranda in January so I'm looking forward to shooting in some truly amazing locations there. The indoor shots were taken at my bro's place way out in the rainforest outside Kuranda.

Australia - random recent shots

It's taken me three weeks to reacclimatise and readjust to being back in Australia. I'm nearly there.

Tomorrow we head to a friend's farm near Wagga in NSW for a week then back here to Sydney for NYE.  After that, it's the Blue Mountains for 9 days, Canberra for 3 then fly to Brisbane and the Gold Coast for a couple of weeks followed by far north Queensland - Cairns and Kuranda. After that, Adelaide and Perth.

One of the things I love most about Australia is the ocean (...

Moda en Gandia and My Editing Workflow

Here's the set from Gandia featuring Poetic Minx and Olga. I shot this with the Z6 and 50mm lens.

The back light shots were mostly around F3.5, F4.0 and 1/2500 sec, ISO 200. Exposure judged as usual by just looking at the viewfinder preview and moving around a lot to get the right effect. Both girls were also moving and I'm ...

Olga - Gandia, Spain

The Alicante region of Spain in winter is charaterised by clear sunny days with a cool to cold wind - but it can be lovely and warm when the wind subsides.

Olga came around to our apartment in Gandia one day after we'd had dinner with her and her partner in Valencia the night before. I shot some shots of her in the apartment which was right on the beach then we headed down to the sand for some duos - those ...

A nude set we shot just before we left Dee Why and Sydney for Melbourne, which is where we are now.

It was an extremely bright Sydney day and this small beautifully sculptured sandstone cave afforded some nice strong reflected light, which wasn't easy to control but worked out fine. I love the softer tones in these, yet retaining strong highligh...

Brighton Sun

Shot down at Brighton beach the other day. This Australian sun and weather is just so good! A happy girl and happy pictures 😜🌞☀️

I'm used to shooting in the Australia sun and it's very different from the Northern hemisphere - incredibly BRIGHT!. These were shot at around F2.2 and ISO 160 with the 50. As usual with backlight, I continuously move in order to get just the right amount of flare. Camera is set on manual - auto won't give the effects you want, it will shut everythin...

Zoe [Set 1 of 2]

Zoe was a local mountains friend who I worked with many times on various projects. This set was shot at home using the Z6 and 50mm lens although I may have also used the 70-200 f2.8 for a couple of shots.

As usual with friends like her I asked her what SHE wanted to do. She mentioned she had some Magpie wings, a skull and some jewellery she was attached to that she could bring along. Great...

Portraits from the Edge

The title of a book which reflects the way I feel about images like this. I've had it on the back burner for years and I used to select models specifically for this project. To date, I could only find 3 or 4 models who were suitable for it. Maybe a kickstarter campaign at some stage.
