Get It Right - Vent Hood MkII!

This took a lot longer than I thought it would, but I am pleased with the results.  Here is how I made the new and perfected vent hood cover.  Enjoy!

Hey YouTube - Where's My F%$&! Video????

Whaaaaat?  Yet another joy of YouTube-By-Bot.  Exactly what happened to my Voyager Record video from 2017?  I have no idea.

The Men Who Own The World - Or At Least Claim To!

Hey Kids!  I have had to take down my Voyager Record video from 2017 due  to a cascade of new copyright claims.  Often in these robo-spam auto claims I file a dispute and in 30 days if there is no retort from the claimant I can put the video back up live again.  But all they have to  do is say - "Yea, I own that. Nuff Said." and boom... I've got no recourse but to take it down.  No one to actually verify that they DO have a claim on that audio.  I really hat...

Frances Blanche's Day Off

Life moves pretty fast.  If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.  Just for fun I decided to record myself exploring the hidden features of my electric stage piano, discovering that 10 year old Fran is alive and well.

Making My M3 3D Printer Vent Hood

Vent Hood MkII

I drafted up an updated vent hood box type face that I'll have to make in the upcoming weeks to really use the printer.  You'll have to click the attachment to see it.....   I'm still  going around and around with Patreon support about the picture posting issue.  Basically, they refuse to tell me what script is running the image hosting and so I have no way to troubleshoot it.  Does everybody just run all scripts all the time on all their systems and accept all c...

Setting Up The Makergear M3 Dual 3D Printer

Oh... so much agony!  It's not quite a done deal yet as there are still problems to work out, but basically these past two weeks condense into this neat little 30 minute video.  I've edited out the screaming and smashing things, but mostly this is the result.  I'll follow up with a supplemental video about making the vent hood.  Enjoy!

Printer Time

Oh, the frustration. I have spent most of the past 10 days working on my new 3D printer installation video, complete with vent shroud construction and all that stuff - but I am having so many issues with getting the printer set up that I STILL do not have the thing set up for a demonstration.  I had hoped to wrap it up today, but another snag in the utilities has me once again waiting for a reply from technical support, which means I  probably won't get an answer till Monday.  ...

Could 100K Happen?

For months it has seemed like it could happen, and then not - hitting  the 100K subscribers mark.  I suppose subscriber numbers are generally on the positive side these past few months, so perhaps this year it might actually roll over 100K.  The Adam Savage collab videos really gave the channel a much needed boost.  I wonder if I make a video about hitting 100K that 2K subs will instantly bail and I'd have to wait for 2020 to try again!  That would be hilarious!  ...

Modify A Leatherman Wave Holster For Quick Draw!

An easy little project to make a quick draw holster for my Leatherman Wave, something that would function much like what Adam Savage had made for his Wave that I saw him use many times at the Project Egress build at the Air and Space Museum.  Enjoy!

Fran's Voiceover Demo Reel

Voiceover actors all have demo reels.  These are about 1 minute long, quickly edited, and comprise the best of their work spanning their careers.  They use the Demo Reel to get new jobs, even though they are not actually reels anymore, and can sometimes seem dated and corny.  For fun I have assembled this quick 1 minute collection of clips from films and television shows that I have not ever appeared in over the past 30 years, representing the best unknown of my many roles on b...

New Printer!

Here's a sneak peek at the freshly unboxed Makegear M3 dual independent head printer - I still have to make the shroud for it before I start printing to contain and vent the outgassed volatiles.  Even with PLA the fumes cause me severe respiratory distress.

Patreon only allows me to post pictures as attachments now, so go figure why that is.  You'll have to download the picture to view it.  'Cmon Patreon!  What is the problem?

Double Whammy for the Apollo 50th

This news is heartbreaking. The death of Armstrong in 2012 now seems like the death of Korolev in 1966 - almost completely unnecessary and preventable.

Adam Savage Project Egress Apollo 11 Hatch Live Build!

The thrilling conclusion of Project Egress happened on July 18, 2019 at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum where Adam Savage and his team constructed the Apollo 11 Command Module Hatch from all the components that we made.  My latch, and my name, are now on exhibit in the same hall as Glamorous Glennis, The Spirit of St. Louis, Neil Armstrong's Apollo 11 Moonwalk Suit, and all the others.  I also got to sign the hatch along with all the other makers that attended this mar...

The Real Apollo LEM That I'm Forbidden To Show You!

Ben Franklin would do it, so here I go - showing you this mock-up LEM that Grumman made for ground training the Apollo Astronauts - even though I have been told by the Smithsonian that I'm not allowed to.  But it's out in the open, so I guess if they really wanted to keep it out of public view it wouldn't be outside in a park behind the Franklin Institute here in Philadelphia!  I might be in trouble, but you go ahead an enjoy this anyway!

Project Egress: FranLab Mission Log 7

Number seven in the Project Egress series has me going for the finish in a very time intensive way - hand finishing all the parts and getting the fit of all the components correct.  Some unexpected snags had me spending days making adjustments painstakingly by hand.  Almost there...  stay tuned for the conclusion in number eight!

Project Egress: FranLab Mission Log 3

In part three I am in the thick of it and getting exhausted.  It took about a week in for me to find my second wind, and this particular vlog definitely was recorded around that point where I was running on fumes.  But in a couple days after this I would begin to see more light, even as the end of the tunnel seemed to drift further away.  This was not going to be a quickly finished project.  This was going to take all the stamina and resolve that I could muster.

The overlords have decreed that the super secret project will be declassified this Friday, so I am preparing to publish the first of a series of videos documenting my part of the project after that announcement.  I hope I have not been building this up toooooo much....   but it sure has been and continues to be a great deal of work for me.   Whether or not anyone else will find my recent toils interesting in the least is another matter.  Anyway - I gotta get back...
