The Issaquah Accords

In February 2025 a diplomatic conference took place in the city of Issaquah, WA between members of MCDM and the DMHub teams. On a plateau on the Pacific Northwest a plan was formulated for the future of The Codex, the Virtual Table Top (VTT) for Draw Steel. My name is Djordi and I hosted the Accords at my secret location on said plateau.

What is the Codex?

The Codex is a custom VTT buil...

Glass

Some fiction for Draw Steel wherein we meet the iconic Talent, Glass.

“Shadow Two is here to see you, sir.”

Rhamose held up his left hand, index finger pointing up, while his right hand glided across the vellum. He wrote the popular, simplified script in something like calligraphy. Tiye knew this meant it was an internal memo. He saved the symbolic script for interdepartmental memos because he knew it annoyed his peers who could not easily read the old hieratic.

Summoning the Summoner

Hey folks! The Summoner has already been tested internally a couple of times and been through a few revisions so we figured it was a good time to debrief you folks on how we got here, and where we're going with the Summoner.

We started with...a meeting! Kickoff meeting! Any time things go bad at MCDM it's almost always because we failed to start with a Kickoff Meeting.

We spent about an hour talking about all the different ideas we had for the Summoner. We want to make sure to get...

The Draw Steel Director's Screen

Hey folks! James here! I'm getting ready to work on the Draw Steel Director's Screen (the thing that a Director uses to hide their notes from players). I was thinking about what should go on the back of it and then I realized that there's a whole bunch of you folks here who have played the game and might have opinions about that. So we figured we'd ask! Here's a survey:

Dragon Fiction

Hey folks! Matt here with some Dragon Fiction Willie asked me for. This is intended to appear at the beginning of the Dragons section of the Monsters book.

That's how this works, by the way. When someone at MCDM asks me to write some fiction on a topic, I write something inspired by that topic, but maybe not literally featuring that topic.

So in this case you will note; you never actually meet a dragon here. In spite of that, I think this text is very much ...

Finishing Up Core Rules and What's Next

This week has been full of meetings at MCDM, but they’re the good kind. Right now we’re in this magical period that happens every two years or so here. A lot of the staff, including the design team, is starting to work part time on a project that was all of their time previously—in this case it’s the Draw Steel core rulebooks. That means we have the time to start up other projects.

This week, I wanted to give you all a status update about the core rules and future ...

MCDM Mini Monday - 3d Print Edition

Hey Folks,

I forgot to hit publish last night, so this week Mini Monday is on a Tuesday. I think we might end up moving to a monthly drop of two minis because posting consistently on schedule has thus far proven illusive, however, we want to deliver multiple minis each month.

This week we are doing something a bit different as we got two new 3D printers setup in the office to play with. ...

The Story So Far

In the beginning there was funky dice … then, lo, came two dice each of six sides … then the designers said, “Nay! Let it be two dice with sides of ten!” These seismic changes are but a fraction of the story of Draw Steel.

It’s James. Over the last few months, we’ve gotten a bunch of new Patrons. Welcome and thank you! We thought it might help folks old and new to bring you all up to speed with where we’ve gone and how we got to this point in the development of View Post

Last Week: Adventure!

So what’s next? Now that we’ve wrapped up what is likely the final playtest packet for the Draw Steel core rules, you might be wondering just that—especially when it comes to the MCDM Patreon. Well, we were wondering that too! Then the design team spent a week together in the office and now we know a little more than we did … at least we think so! All this stuff is subject to change based on our budgets, timelines, and human resources, but you all are the patrons and alr...

Hey folks! It's James here. The design, production, and operations teams are here in the office this week. Since we're getting close to finishing the core design of Draw Steel and moving the game into edit and layout, we've been talking a lot about future products for the RPG. The biggest topic of all our meetings this week is ADVENTURES. We want to create lots of stories for you to run, play, scrap for parts, read, or otherwise use howev...

Good King Omund

At some point we decided the Iconic Censor in Draw Steel should be a dragon knight. Grace was drawing this character, whom I'd named Sir Vaantikalisax, and knowing the dragon knights originally served Good King Omund she asked "Hey what kind of heraldry would Omund have on his shield?"

"I have no idea!" I said, excited because now I had a good reason to come up with an answer. I didn't want to just make up a quick answer, I wanted to first learn who this dude was, and then...
