I love this special lady. Having seen her through so many ups and downs over the past decade has only made me respect and appreciate her more. And she's been there for me at certain low moments, which I rarely allow people to do, and so I feel that I can never repay the kindnesses she's shown me.

Our last outfit change of the day ended up in John's classic kitchen, which hadn't changed much since he bought the house in the 1960s. I had stolen a few classic bowls from my mom's house to add to the authenticity, and Kacie pulled out a dress that was straight from that era. She always was acquiring pieces of clothing for her to wear to rockabilly events or sock-hop events around Philadelphia, where she was living at the time.

I believe this was the absolute last shot we took outside, but it worked quite well. The color and composition, the negative space of the grass, I just really loved it, and thankfully Kacie loved it, too.

I love this shot. It's such an odd angle, making her body seem almost distorted, weird and flashy, but still lovely and irresistible, nonetheless. Her gaze and pose is absolutely perfect. I love it so much.

For most of these shots, I was standing precariously on a chair that looked older than I was. I was afraid my girth was going to flatten the rickety piece of cracked furniture any moment, but I refused to stop clicking away. I'm sure it was as hilarious a sight for her to look at as it felt to me.

At this point we had been shootign for two hours, and I knew that we just needed to stop at some point. I love her dirty little green feet from the perfectly mowed grass here. I should say that John, the house owner, is a landscaper and gardener by trade, and even in his late 80s, he still tends to yards, especially his own. His lawn is often cut so evenly that you could take a ruler to it.

This was one of the first times I had shot down on a model, and one of the first successful times that I turned the camera in an odd or uncomfortable manner in order to squeeze the model into a complex composition that actually looked good. I remember afterward thinking that I had never done this before, held the camera upside down and at an odd angle, but I knew it would work, and thankfully it did. Im pretty sure this image was shot as it is, no cropping or rotation of any kind.

Finally, we headed outdoors into the sun. She lathered herself with sunblock to protect her delicate, fair skin from the intensity of the California sun. Stripped down to almost nothing, she wanted to create some classic-looking pin-up images from the 1940s and '50s. I tried to help her in any way I could.

Everything just worked. She had arranged some flowers from the backyard into her hair, she opened her shirt just enough, and even her hand and finger placement was perfection. She created a mood and style that I loved, and she loved it just as much, if not more.

But we went back to the bedroom again, and I wanted to take at least one cool shot of her usuing John's large bedroom mirror. I cleared off his dresser and moved some items around, setling eventually on this simple, curvy, flowery vessel, which I think complimented Kacie in many different ways.

Next Kacie put on a more sensible outfit and we took a few soft, straightforward portraits of her in the living room. She can easily convey so much emotion with such minimal effort.
These photos seem so old to me, seeing as how I've shot hundreds of thousands of images since then. Still, these shots hold up and are some of my favorites I've ever shot.

I had to give Kacie no direction, letting her create her own stories in her mind of the characters she was playing. Like me, she enjoyed the voyeuristic nature of photography, and we played with that sensibility all afternoon, capturing quiet, sexy moments.

Kacie looks incredible no matter what she's doing. As I went to check on her in the bathroom as she was doing her make-up, I caught her looking at herself and told her to freeze so I could capture it. This led to a few minutes of me arrangng myself in the cramped doorway hunting for the best angle with which to document her gaze.
