At Home With Brooke, Pt. 2

I've been friends with Brooke since about 2013, about a year into her modeling career. She had been working at a pizza parlour when her friend, a longtime freelance model, convinced her to try it. Brooke was a ntural, and loved the way it both empowered her and served as an outlet for her in-born creativity.

At Home With Brooke, Pt. 1

Brooke Eva is one of the loveliest, most naturally gifted models working today, and I'm honored to be able to call her a friend. This set was taken in 2015 during one of my brief day trips to Los Angeles.

Dark Moods, Pt. 28

I saved the best image for last. This image truly astounded me. The moment I caught it, I declared our shoot over, knowing it couldn't get any better than that. From her eyebrow to the tip of her finger, this shot is everything a model photographer tries to capture. I had a rare moment of pride taking this shot, believing for a brief second that I might just know what the hell I'm doing with my life. Thankfully, she loved it as much as I.

The eye contact, the delicate nature f her hands, the details of her skin. Just an absolute beauty. And when I tell her these things, she confidently says "thank you," though you can tell she feels it more than actually believes it.

And all of these last shots just kill me.

I love her profile. She has the kind of perfect facialstructure they teach you how to draw in drawing manuals.

"My back is weird, I can never arch right," she lamented, but I assured her she was doing just fine.

She's just so graceful and effortless.

Next I had her climb back on my bed. I was glad that I had recently repositioned my tiny bedroom, allowing better access to the window light. Though the room was dark and the lighting much moodier than usual for me, I liked it. I've been wanting to embrace darker imagery for a long while now. This is the first shoot I think I was actually successful in not allowing myself to brighten up the shadows, which I've done too many times in the past.

"What do you want me to do...?" She asked, seeking direction reather than praise.

"Just be yourself," I offered, then watched her make a dumb face that made me laugh so hard that I didn't catch it with the camera.

Unsure of what to do next, I offered to have her try on a bodysuit that every recent model I've had has worn. Like the rest of them, it fit her like a glove. Here she is just standing randomly in my bathroom doorway to just show me how she looked. She looked so good , in fact, that I told her to stay there and I snapped a few shots.

So lovely.

But what do you think?

I love this shot. Her upper chest and shoulder areas are just perfect. I wish I could just draw them all day. The details created by the light and shadows are what we used to describe in art school as "nuggety."

Next, I wanted to shoot some close-up shots, tighter on her lovely, flawless face. The details of her upper body, her cheekbones, collarbones, full lips and beautiful eyes, can sometimes be overwhelming to the average viewer. Even as her close friend, who knows all her darkest secrets and embarrassing stories, I still find myself staring at her from time to time. Her level of beauty is almost unreal.

After I showed her what I was capturning, she responded:

"Yeah, that's workin',"
in her adorable, sarcastic tone that I can never get enough of.

"Make sure to make my butt look round, ok? Like, sometimes I think it's so flat, and when I was working out it looked really good, but lately, I don't know...it just hasn't been the same. But work your magic, ok?"

Sure, Jenna.

And even more impressively, she's never looked better.

Recently, Jenna has finally gotten comfortable with her image, with her beauty, with her own sexuality. Though she is still self-conscious like the rest of us, she's slowly learnign to own her identity, and I can't be thnkful enough for this realization of hers.

I'm so proud of Jenna as a person. She's become so much more mature in the years I've known her, more confident, more focused on her responsibilities.

I've written here on Patreon many times about how I met Jenna in a thrift store when she was 16, ensuring her mother was there for the first two years of our shoots. Pregnant at 17 and now the mother of a healthy and lovely two year old, Jenna is finally coming to some frank realizations.

Jenna is one of my favorite women to work with. Her beauty truly is extraordinary, a rare diamond in the rough.
