Sebastien
Month 1, Day 28, Thursday 9:30 a.m.
Professor Ilma didn’t make a fuss when Sebastien slipped back into the room halfway through her lecture, despite the distraction this seemed to cause the gossip-hungry other students.
After the period was over, Sebastien hurried through the halls to Pecanty’s Sympathetic Science classroom, not because she was eager for his class in particular, but because she wanted to speak with both Damien and Ana, who shared the class with...

Month 1, Day 28, Thursday 9:00 a.m.
Sebastien arrived at the University with barely enough time to make it to History of Magic. Most of the other students were already in their seats when she entered the room. Despite the fact that this class was with a different dormitory group than her others, and none of these students really knew her, Sebastien’s entrance was greeted by a sudden hush, followed by a resurgence of murmuring.
As Sebastien took her seat, the gaze...

Month 1, Day 21, Thursday 1:15 p.m.
Oliver wasn’t there when Sebastien arrived at Dryden Manor, but Sharon, the cook, was. The woman took one look at Sebastien and bustled out of the kitchen to grab her arm as if afraid she was about to fall over. “Mr. Siverling! Oh, you look absolutely wretched!”
Sebastien gave her a wry smile. “I’m a bit tired. Planning to stay here for a few days, if you think that will be alright.”
“Of course it is! Thomas!...

Month 1, Day 21, Thursday 8:15 a.m.
Titus’s eyebrows rose at Thaddeus’s sudden request for access to the Raven Queen’s father, but he waved his hand magnanimously. “Of course. We have gone through every method possible to find the hole in his story, but have been unsuccessful thus far. Have you been inspired with a new angle we might try?”
“I need to see all the records on his questioning and the examination reports, from the beginning,” Thaddeus said ...

Month 1, Day 21, Thursday 11:30 a.m.
Siobhan was struggling, desperate to escape but trapped in a body that wouldn’t listen to her commands, as if she’d been drugged or partially paralyzed.
A bracing sting in her cheek provided a way out, and she woke with a gluttonous gasp of air, bolting upright in a bed she didn’t recognize—a room she didn’t recognize—with someone grasping her arms to her sides, restraining her!
She panicked for a good few seco...

Month 1, Day 21, Thursday 7:30 a.m.
Thaddeus made his way through Harrow Hill Penitentiary’s cafeteria, a squat, dark room that carried over the feeling of confinement from its cells. He took coffee and a small breakfast, adding a few drops of his own specially prepared wakefulness tincture into the coffee. The tincture was an extract of the blood of several creatures from the Planes of Radiance, Air, and Water, along with the concentrated nutrients his body would need ...

The sky kraken, if you remember, is the featured on the University's crest, as well as their gates and the main doorway of the Citadel. Sky kraken resemble giant squid, but spend most of their time in the sky. They live in colder climates, and are able to survive indefinitely at high altitudes where the air is too thin and frigid to support much life.
Sometimes, they venture to warmer climates for the increased food supply. Terrifying and aggressive, these gargantuan beasts will attack ...

Beneath hundreds of meters of white stone, in a small room carved into the most secret of places and illuminated only by light crystals, stood four people. To the left side of the doorway, a human woman sidled a little closer to her male companion. On the right side, their boots still muddy, waited one man with ginger-orange hair another other with a pair of furry tails. All four wore the red shield symbol of their order and held a clipboard, the paperwork already filled out and checked over....

Hey guys,
The side story poll is closed as of the 24th, though you can still vote and comment if you just want to give me your input for future reference.
At the end of the poll period, we had what seemed to be a tie, but when I downloaded the more granular data, I realized that the poll allowed people to pick multiple options at once. While that's totally fine, I didn't want this to be unfair for the people who only chose one option.
So each person only got one ...

Another excerpt from Siobhan's grimoire, where she explains the basic elements of spellcasting, with some examples and illustrations that get into a little more depth than the early parts of the story. This goes over the Circle, Conduit, Will, Sacrifice, Word (delving into glyphs and numerological symbols just a little).
There will be more in-depth grimoire pages on spell design later, as it's a very complex subject, but for now this is a good introductory text.
You can...

Siobhan keeps a Grimoire, where she makes notes about magic, the world, and really anything she finds interesting or noteworthy and would like to remember, along with frequent doodles and illustrations. As grimoires are meant to be passed down to descendants or Apprentices, many of the pages will be formatted as lessons.
Here are Siobhan's notes on how to cast a simple spark-shooting spell, fully illustrated.
There are two versions, one in full old-parchment color, and one in blac...

They're a mix of 18x24 inches and 16x24 inches (slightly longer),
Please don't share these images with non-patrons. These are for personal use only (not commercial.)
