Creating paper armor was hard. Everything in her argued against it. Paper being able to cut through metal, sure, no problem she could see it with enough force, power, mojo, whatever. It worked. It made sense.

Paper armor did not.

Eve had finally after grueling hours of being stabbed, slashed, thwacked, poisoned, hit by acid, and drowned managed to barely get a small degree of success.

Folding. Folding was the secret. Hidden...

Eve slept in the day after combining puppies, hunting, and explaining the wonders of culinary cuisine to Fang. When she woke up, the first thing she did after showering was check her kill messages while choosing an outfit. Letting the experience spam flow through her mind, she didn’t even pay it attention.

“Wilson, would it be possible to just see if a target is dead visually, and only receive the highest level up message of a bunch?”

The System believes it can arran...

Hunting at night was a far different experience. Of course, Eve was no expert in either day or night hunting.

The only experience she had was ferrets so far, which was why she had bowed her head and asked for assistance from the wolves after checking for advice from her brother. She had attempted to check her brother’s Transport to Another World for tips on hunting to dismal outcome.

Surprise, your big bro sucks at hunting.

I know,...

Eve was in heaven. Not literally, but close enough. Fluffy bundles of adorable fur moved around her sniffing the new human arrival. They had been warned to be on their best behavior, which to be frank was essentially limited to not pissing on her. While she loved puppies, there were some parts of the experience that got a hard pass. On the other hand, the warm fluffy bundles did a great deal to heal the recent scars.

No wonder therapy dogs are the VA’s first choice most of the tim...

After her furry guests left Eve locked the door behind them. It was more of a symbolic safety, since she doubted the materials in her house were actually able to keep something out. On the other hand, they might be absorbing mana to become stronger. Who knew?

Taking her normal shower, toweling off, and then getting comfortable in bed Eve pulled up her kill messages.

You have killed a Lv. 21 Wind Ferret. Experience gained.

Returning from the successful extermination of the final ferret nest at the large lake was much easier. The wolves ranged out ahead, behind, and along her flanks. Anything that might have chosen to take a bite decided to quietly let the new rulers pass. Eve was able to run effortlessly with them since her Physical Stats were so high. When she reached the clearing located on her Map though, it looked completely changed.

An enormous series of vines appeared to have been victorious against...

Gone.

His sister was gone.

It was with a supreme effort of will that Matt Smith managed to not turn Tucson into a smoking crater. Only the knowledge that doing so would obliterate his only two remaining family members prevented his collapse into a rage. Glancing at one of the several Hummers behind him glowing in enchanted runes he calmed himself. The glowing red eyes that shone through his sunglasses slowly dimmed until only a faint light remained.

Once his rage co...

Kudzu looked over his kingdom of vegetation with a proud smile. She-Who-Slices had departed earlier in the day. Since she took the annoying Humming-That-Cuts birds with her, he felt much better. Even when she wasn’t directly watching him, Kudzu got the feeling those birds wanted to have another go at his him.

Just wait until I have stronger vines, then those birds will learn the terror of revenge! Kudzu thought. Thinking was a new concept that had arrived when he reached a ne...

The forest was alive as Eve moved slowly through the shaded areas. Over the course of time before she exited her house on this excursion, winter had given way to spring. She had left her house at around noon, and after almost thirty minutes of travel the river should be coming up ahead. With every minute that passed as she moved further north, she started to slow. There was a nest somewhere in the surrounding, and Eve wasn’t keen on finding it the hard way. Paper woven in between her hairs ...

Since she had disabled her alarm clock, Eve managed to get a solid day of sleep done. If it wasn’t for the barking noises that woke her up, she likely would have managed to sleep even longer. As she woke up and did her daily ritual of shower, shave, and dress for success she paused every so often. The knowledge that her brother was a big shot while important, really didn’t help her much right now.

He did his best. Eve thought. It isn’t like he could be with me every s...

When the soft burbling of water woke her Eve had to restrain the impulse to pick the alarm clock up and throw it against the wall. Instead she quietly removed the batteries from the clock. Staring at both items in her hands she simply let them drop to the floor.

Eve was tired. Bone deep tired.

She hadn’t liked being in the sandpit, yet when the moment came she didn’t hesitate to pull the trigger and save her squadmate. The ferret slaughter followed the same vein. Eve didn’t ...

Eve stared outside the small slitted window that hung over her kitchen sink. Today was the day she moved out from her fortress of solitude into the wider world.

Actually let’s start from the roof. Eve decided chickening out. That would probably be safer.

Finishing the breakfast dishes Eve grabbed her fluffy coat, pulled on her winter gloves, and patted her cheeks. Then she tagged several metal, glass, mirror silver, and normal paper sheets with Levitate...

Eve sighed as she stared at the full body length mirror on the inside of bedroom walk in closet. It was a sad fact, made readily apparent by a simple inspection.

Dammit, I look like a younger, hotter, better version of Mom. Eve thought in exasperation for the millionth time. Even changing her skin color, or hair color, or eye color didn’t change the basic outline. It just added a more exotic look to her appearance.

Grumbling, Eve moved to head to the kitchen to eat.

Confirmed. Starting User Character Creation sub-system.

Eve found herself floating in a void of darkness in which her body was lit from within. In front of her was a blank brain missing features, like a manikin’s open head given flesh.

Moving closer to the floating brain was merely an action of will. A small string of numbers appeared above the image. When she thought of the brain getting larger the numbers decreased the larger it became.

Looking at the nu...

As her alarm clock woke her, Eve slowly managed to wake up to the sound of burbling streams. Escaping to the bathroom, she finished the new morning ritual of cold water and toilet prayers before choosing today’s outfit. Jeans and one of her few long sleeve cold-weather exercise shirts along with boots completed the ensemble. Preparing for hunting tomorrow, she removed her old military garment bag from the bedroom closet. Packed within was everything an army grunt could need, from the expert...

Eve snapped awake as her alarm clock gently murmured the music of a babbling brook. While it could no longer run on electricity since the power was devoted to keeping food fresh, the battery backup still ran.

Reaching out her hand, Eve used Summon Book I to pull Volume 2 into her hands. Quickly before the memory from her dream faded, she moved to the section of the book that lined up with her dream.

Eve watched the paper she was using Levitate Paper I on as it effortlessly sliced carrots, celery, onions, and assorted other vegetables into minced pieces.

Gives a whole new meaning to the words paper cut. Eve thought, a smile ghosting across her face. The vegetables were scooped up effortlessly with the paper and tossed into a bubbling pot on the stove. While the city's electricity was dead for now, the gas still worked, which meant the small generator could ...

Prologue

Eve stared at the snow outside her door in mild confusion. Arizona was many things, but a place where the snow lay deep on the ground was not one of them. Glancing around, thick silent evergreens laden with snow had covered every corner of the clearing around her. Closing the metal security gate, Eve calmly locked it before closing the door and locking that as well. It rarely snowed in the Tucson valley, especially in the height of summer.

Something is very wrong here. Eve thou...
