Here's a bit of a different sketch for today, originally drawn just to practice a pose and angle I have trouble with, but eventually expanding into a bit of a scene. I've definitely been in the mood to do some storytelling lately, might have to start sketching out some comic ideas even. In any case, do expect more scene-like doodles like this in the near future.

Completed Color Piece 2-8-21.

Here's an early look at the Freya pic I'd been working on! I spent a lot of time in the last phase working in little finishing touches to tie this one together with a theme. The light dashes of yellow in her hair are directly inspired by Amano's concept art, while the floral patterns worked into her costume are a thematic choice to match with her pipe smoke and the general background hues.

I've been very busy this weekend doing a lot of multitasking between commissions and original work. Earlier in the week I finished the shading layer for this Freya pic, so all that's really left is to texture and then put on the finishing touches. I shuffled around my schedule today since I was having some difficulty with what was originally on my plate. I ended up swapping today's work with the original pic I've been planning to work on instead, which means this will probably be finished earlier than expected. In any case, I took this one from line to nude shading, with some cleanup done to make shading the clothing easier next time.

Concept Sketch and Sketchpage WIP 2-3-21.

First up is a concept sketch for a character I'm revisiting, as well as for a nice color piece I'd like to do later this month. Every time I redraw this particular mouse she comes out looking a bit different, and this is no exception. I think she looks better with fur covering her hands and paws, save for some pink tinted patches to add contrast, as opposed to the furless bits I usually use for mice.

I'll be doing commemorative sketches like this every month, likely themed around a holiday or just the general time of year. Here we have both Flat WIP for two Simple Sketches, and two completed Sketchpages! Once again there's a ton of variety in terms of characters and themes in this batch, and a lot of improvisation on my part in terms of the posing.

I really challenged myself with these, particularly when it came to the poses in the two character sketchpage and the bunny sketch.

It was definitely a good idea to split the work phases on these between two days, as I found it much easier to do only linework on one day and only color on the other, rather than finishing them one at a time.

Another quick doodle after work. I find these pretty fun and relaxing to do after some of the lighter work days, so expect to see more as I work through commissions.

Part of the fun of commissions is getting to work with very different characters, in this case, a fairly ordinary species I don't work with much, and another that is very unique. Doodle and WIP 1-8-21.

I had some extra time after doing regular work today, so I spent a little time just scratching out an idea. Simple doodles like this are a nice way to experiment with new ideas outside of my normal work, and I often use them as blueprints for bigger pics down the line. I quite like the positioning of the figures in this one, though I'll probably nuance the idea with some ethereal figures and more complex magic-y visuals.

Soft Paint Piece "Little Black Dress" 1-7-21.

This was a really fun one to work on, particularly some of the smaller details such as the glittery look of her dress, or the extra defined curls I put into her hair to make her look a bit more made up.

Attached is the textured layer as well, which is how most Soft Paint pics look when I'm ready to work on the background layer.

The remaining figure has much simpler shading regions to work with, and less textures as well. Lately I've been feeling the urge to branch out a bit more. It's been about 3-4 years since I've animated anything, but last night I felt like giving it a try.
