New Video coming next week + Thoughs on the Patreon Fee Situation™

So if you don't know, a few weeks ago Patreon introduced an insights feature were you can track pretty much everything, including fees and where they go, so I thought I'd check them out and...
...it's pretty scary HOW much patreon is actually taking out from our current earnings. Above is an image showing how much they take out in 'fees' each month. We're at the 8% fee tier but doing math that does NOT add up at all. It comes to 18-20% each month.
At time of writing on our front page you see us making $6.2k where in actual fact it's more like $5.2k.
I'm honestly not happy at all at our much Patreon takes and does very little to warrant it.
So as of now we've opened a Ko-Fi; https://ko-fi.com/monkeywrench to give them a try. We've been with them for a week and it's going ok. They do lack some function that patreon has, like actual video hosting and providing 1099 tax stuff, but they also have stuff patreon doesn't, like giving a one off lump sum donation and no insanely high fees. It seems good so far.
Oh, we've also enabled YT memberships on the MW channel too. Gotta make a video to announce that at some point...
We're gonna keep them open for now and see how things go, more choice for you guys is a good idea.
DO NOTE THAT WE ARE NOT CLOSING OR ABANDONING THE PATREON
We're just currently looking at other affordable avenues of funding.

Josh and Ashley, I’ll do whatever works best for you. I’m fine with Venmoing directly to you for that matter and just doing a token amount on Patreon to get the weekly announcements. Please advise.

2024-03-30 02:40:17 +0000 UTCThe biggest advantage to Patreon is that it's one of the best systems for regular payments; Ko-fi tends to do better for one-offs, for example, and Subscribestar doesn't allow Mastercard because it's become a place for a lot of the adult content Patreon's been forced to block. Unfortunately that reliability and accessibility does indeed come with a price (I think all their increased Don't-allow-XYZ stuff enforced by MasterCard has resulted in increased cut demands from creators too). As a suggestion though, I'd also like to add my voice to the ones previous update comments: Make a kickstarter dammit! You guys have three high quality episodes to showcase as proof of your ability to accomplish the kickstarter's goals, you can add stretch goals like bonus side comics (e.g. 2-4 panel gag strips that don't take nearly the same time investment as animation), you'd be able to reach the funding goal for sure!
