Neoclassicism was the main art style of the Age of Enlightenment. It drew inspiration from the art and culture of classical antiquity and placed emphasis on symmetry, proportion as well as geometry. It started in the 1760s as the opponent of rococo and slowly faded away around the middle of the XIXth century.
