Very late end of the month progress report but here we are.
For starters I'd love to have some prettier polished WIPs to post but blender's 4.1 grease pencil is intensive and buggy, so I'm sparing that headache for the final render, along with compositing. It's easier to post a fully polished frame, a still render, with works made in cycles (ie the Overwatch ones, made with blender's raytracing engine), ironically, because this anime style is surprisingly intensive.
Currently, most of the animation is complete, what you see here is almost fully animated, only missing parts are things like hair and other motions that come last. My main focus right now is the ending, which is the last stretch of animation left to do. Afterwards there's the usual tweaks to get it to look better, stuff like.. liquids and so on.
As for the experience of this project.. I'm always kicking myself over how long it's taking. But, well, it's always my fault. This thing is now at 2 mins 10 seconds long, it might hit 3 with the ending I'm planning. I'm not sure how to put it, but I guess I felt really passionate about this one, even now despite how much it's tiring me out. I'm being rather unreasonable and barely compromising on anything, I'm really pouring everything I've got into it.
I have changed my workflow substantially since this time last year and even more so compared to the previous. It's far more stable and sustainable now, and yet, little does it show because I just had to go "all out" with this. But, well, I wanted to. Heck of a stress test too. After this one I intend to be more pragmatic, it's already almost the middle of the year and needless to say I'm not satisfied with the current pace of output. But don't worry, I haven't forgotten about the poll, late as I always am.
There's a lot more I could say but.. I believe showing the results will be better. It's been a long process and keeping your head above the water, thinking long term despite how much internet work demands output output output, is what I believe matters most.
Is it all gonna be worth it I wonder? Well, perhaps just what you learn along the way is worth it in itself. I always say this and I'll keep saying, but thanks for being here and for your support. Especially in these tough times. I can afford to keep going because of you all, so I truly do mean it, it is a privilege. I hope to make your stay worth it.
