Commander X16 2023 Update

This video shows some of the manufacturing struggles we've been dealing with, as well as a long Q/A session at the end of the video.

The X16 project won't really be making any money on the cases, since those are going to be sold by a third party. But I suppose, the more cases they sell, the more improvements can be made to it down the line.

I was wondering, I don't think I'll be getting an X16 (I may still but as is, no) but would it be able for me to support this project by instead of buying a board buying a case? It looks to be mini-ITX so I could probably find a nice board to put in there.

I humbly think you should call the two systems PC and console, rather than Gen 1 and Gen 2. Even if you're producing the console version second (once the PC version is done), I think those are much clearer labels and would somewhat mitigate the questions of reduced features in the console - the console is not a successor, but rather a variant.

What, GPT-4 knows how to program 6502 assembly too? That's kinda amazing.

Hey David, so I noticed you mentioned a network card as well as an advanced basic editor in this vid. As background, I am a software engineer, but I’m also a filthy millennial. My most prescient childhood memories were of writing simple BASIC text-based games and playing DOS games, and from that I’ve always had an interest in making games. However, there is a huge gap between what I’ve learned to make a living in newer programming environments vs what I would love to do in creating clean, fun games on a system like the x16. Ok so that was prologue, now for the meat of my post: I would love to create games for the x16, and I’m wondering if there is any possibility of integrating gpt-4 (or something similar) into that advanced editor. I know it sort of breaks with the old school philosophy of learning things thoroughly via large manuals with no access to the internet, but I think there is a huge opportunity to bring people like me into the fold for creating new games on the x16 platform if there were a way for us new-age noobies to quickly get involved without taking a year to learn assembly. If that’s interesting to you at all, I’m very experienced in distributed web services and have already created one chatgpt-based service, and would love to see if there was a way for me to help create something that could integrate with the x16’s editor to help the younger generations (myself included) get involved with making software on the x16.
