Restoration of Apple IIc Plus

This has been on my to-do list for about 4 or 5 months now.  Finally got it done.   Subtitles are already done.  I'll get a better thumbnail done this evening.

Restoration videos is where you see storytelling done right. Excellent work, David!

I really enjoyed this video, it brought me back to the days of 3rd and 4th grade where I got to use the apple iic all to myself in a very air conditioned library, which was also a lucky thing. I spent a lot of time making things beep and calculate and just had fun with whatever they had. I also felt like a secret agent with the green screen monitor..

Enjoyed this one… annnd Now I want an Apple Inc

I agree with your takes on restorations. There's so much more to explore about the retro/8-bit computer world!

I love restoration videos. They are informative and relaxing and the same time. But you are right to be sceptical towards certain fads like "most damaged console restored". A two or one time video of yours on that topic is enough for my tastes.

DoktorNo

Amazing restoration. I love your restoration videos. They are deeply satisfying. But yes, we are definitely seeing a lot of fake restoration videos in other genres (like audio equipment or musical instruments) around the web.

You know they're bad if they are old and say RIFA on them, and haven't exploded yet 😄. Pretty much all of them go bad and eventually fail as short circuit. They're across the line voltage input so they tend to explode or at least take the fuse out. Before plugging an old device in for the first time, replace the RIFA cap(s) with an "X2" type capacitor (the device will work without RIFA too so you COULD just take it out without replacing it but that's up to you).

I'm actually not aware of how to "check" a RIFA. I assume you know they are bad when they go up in smoke. Is there some sort of sign to look for?

The 8-Bit Guy

Did you not check for a RIFA capacitor in the power supply, or did you do that off-camera?

Jac Goudsmit

I love the restoration videos ( I restore vintage audio ) but I also completely get what your saying about them.

Personally, I simply find it nice to preserve old things, especially technical stuff, that’s why I love your restoration videos. I restored a lot of HIFI stuff from the 70s like amplifiers, tape decks and record players by myself in the past. For me, it’s also very interesting to see how the engineers realized things - and sometimes tiny things like cable management or switch mounts make me happy (for instance if it’s easy to repair because of this). So beside the cosmetic recovery, I’m always happy to get to know technical differences and see how things were done or constructed. So thanks again David and keep up your nice work that keeps the technical history alive. B)

One area that might make for an interesting "focus video" (video short)? Looking at keyboard reassembly---specifically why do some keys have that secondary bar, and how to reattach them? Seems super simple, but every time I've attempted a keyboard cleanup/repair, I end up breaking something, or have no luck :|
