Alternate Human (Final Version)

Hey all, here to submit my final version of my Alternate Human. I wanted to wait to see the optional rules in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything to make sure this was still a useful brew to put out there. I personally think it still is and helps add some variety to humans in 5e.

The Alternate Human

I’ve always felt that humans were a little *too* generic in 5e. After all, in reality, humans are amazing in their ability to adapt and overcome misfortune. As far as balance goes, (using the widely popular detect balance sheet for player races) the standard *Player’s Handbook* human is one of the worst races (with a score of 17), and the Variant Human one of the most powerful options (at 33+). I wanted to come up with something that was a middle-ground, but also made for a flavorful character.

Got some nice flavor text on the adaptability and tolerance of humans.

Features. Age, alignment, size, speed, and languages should be no surprises.

Determination. This is based on the old UA: Human Determination feat. I always liked it and thought it was a good way to represent the human protagonist of any story every.

Subraces. Not really subraces, think more upbringings - nurture over nature here.

• Astute. These are your brainiacs, pump your mental ability scores and gain Expertise in one mental skill as well. Make for great casters! (Comes in at 26)
• Generalist.  A buffed version of the old standard human. You get to pick from a bunch of different proficiencies to be the ultimately flexible race. (Comes in at 30)
• Specialist. Figured I’d leave the Variant Human in here for the people who love it. (Still high at 33+ due to the ability to choose a feat).
• Vigorous. Play as the corn-fed homegrown farm boy you’ve always wanted to be. Pump your physical ability scores and enjoy *Relentless Endurance*. Adding that in may seem controversial, but the Half-Orc has to inherit it from somewhere! (Comes in at 24).
