Interview with CEO of Flesh and Blood
Added 2020-11-05 16:04:54 +0000 UTCHey Everyone,
I am seting up a Q&A with James White the creator of Flesh and Blood this weekend.
Please give me the most sensitive and difficult to answer questions you can think of below.
If you like someone elses question, please click on the "heart" icon to let me know.
Give me the best questions you can think of~!

Because only brick and mortar stores can only sell “sealed” products, does someone opening a box on YouTube and sending to their subscribers go against the seller policy? And also if your not able to sell sealed products online , the guidelines don’t say anything about locally. Are local sales also against selling sealed products?

2020-11-19 04:10:41 +0000 UTCWill Crucible of War ever go to Unlimited print. There is a second wave of 1st edition coming but I guarantee it will sell out in a heartbeat and all the people that bought CRU boxes off Ebay for like $150 because there was no product left are kicking themselves now. Also finally got a spot on Rudy's Patreon :)
2020-11-11 18:30:12 +0000 UTCWould you ever sell your company to Hasbro. lol
2020-11-10 21:33:53 +0000 UTCThere is only ever one "alpha". That was Welcome to Rathe. All subsequent sets would be "1st printing". So far, you can distinguish "alpha" cards in Rathe from unlimited by the rarity symbol difference and probably the date on the card. Same for Arcane. Remains to be seen how we will distinguish between 1st printing of Crucibles and a subsequent printing.

2020-11-07 18:19:53 +0000 UTCHey Rudy, just jumping on if the interview hasnt been done yet. Given the somewhat "untrustworthiness" of sealed product, do they plan on ever marking booster packs with an "alpha" symbol to act as a proof marker for the product, or just incase people want to crack boxes with the intention of getting packs graded
2020-11-07 13:46:51 +0000 UTCAnd I'm sorry if this has been said. I read through many of the comments but not all. I'd like to know how many sets a year are planned? How long will the print runs last? Will there be a multi-person format?
Trevor Snyder
2020-11-07 02:00:18 +0000 UTCWould also go with: Is there a reserved list planned to make sure certain cards will hold value in the future? That's the biggest issue me and my friends are currently having - how can the product hold those huge short term price swings without a reserved list?
SJ
2020-11-07 00:54:37 +0000 UTCI want to echo a question I saw above about the possibility of an asymmetrical game mode with powerful "monster" heroes designed to go 1v2 or 1v3 (or more). I have played a board/card game (Beneath Nexus) with this premise and it was quite fun. I guess this is more of a suggestion than a question, but I think it would be cool as part of a supplemental set (similar to conspiracy for MTG).

2020-11-06 22:12:11 +0000 UTCFirst congrats on making a new TCG that has the potential to go the distance. My question is how do you intend to keep the game player friendly in terms of prices and reprints without going overboard.
2020-11-06 21:22:27 +0000 UTCAs a new TCG with great potential to succeed, how cautious is the R&D working in keeping cards balanced to prevent a “Reserve List” in the future of FaB? Also, are cold-foil cards printed on future sets or is it some first printing exclusive?
Carlos Malave Solares
2020-11-06 15:53:42 +0000 UTCWould love to see Rudy at least get added to an alt art, or maybe a card like "Creepy Advisor" in Monarch, picture some noble talking to a guy in an alley holding a box of tacos
2020-11-06 14:53:04 +0000 UTCAre the lore books going to be made more available in physical copies for non store owners and if so are there going to be expansions to catch up with the story?
2020-11-06 13:56:33 +0000 UTCWill the lore book be reprinted? If so, when would we see a reprint come to the US? Will new non-human races be introduced into the lore (other than Brute)?
2020-11-06 12:53:28 +0000 UTCWhat factors do you take into consideration for the size of first edition print runs and then from there when do you say stop for unlimited runs of sets?
2020-11-06 09:11:23 +0000 UTC1) Will you introduce a reserved list? 2) What’s your plan to avoid printing just more flashy versions of the same cards over and over as wizards is doing now? Do you have a plan for formats and competitive play to evolve in a way that brings constant innovation to the game, or will you do like Pokémon and YuGiOh where 80% or the new editions are reprints?
2020-11-06 07:53:06 +0000 UTCWith the game having that Diablo 2 feel in its gameplay and visuals, is their any potential for a new cooperative format like a dungeon crawl deck that a group of players can play against?
David North
2020-11-06 07:36:15 +0000 UTCWill they bring back cold foils in any future products?
Thomas Truong
2020-11-06 05:47:46 +0000 UTCMaybe consider LCS exclusive events with prebuilt creature decks for 2v1 or 3v1 heros vs creature with treasure hoard cards included in prebuilds for the Victor(s). Include rarity chase creatures with higher quality hoards.
Brian Hertzig
2020-11-06 05:12:21 +0000 UTCI am only going to ask three questions just to keep this quick and easy. And I want to thank you Rude dude!, four years to the month when you started your journey and now look!! Thank you to James White for answering our questions! 1. Is it possible for you to have a base so to speak in the US, Europe, Asia, or anything outside your country to distribute your product? 2. Will there be an introduction to new formats like MTG did AKA Commander for multiplayer table top? 3. Will you introduce online gaming AKA Magic Arena so to speak, with the possibility of an MMO in the future? Thank you once again for your time! And give em *WOTC* hell!
2020-11-06 04:18:31 +0000 UTCIs it pronounced Wrath or Wraith?
2020-11-06 04:14:39 +0000 UTC1) Is there a planned "standard" rotation for the game? 2) Would LSS accept company buyout by WOTC or Hasbro? 3) How many new Heroes can we expect in the next few sets? 4) Are there new equipment slots planned (seperate legs from feet, arms from hands, chest from necklace, add rings, bags, pets, mounts) 5) How many expansions are planned per year? 6) Are there rules for multiplayer play? 7) Will you set up a reserve list? 8) Will you print alternate border sets (white border or silver/gold)?
2020-11-06 02:06:23 +0000 UTCHow transparent are they planning to be regarding things like print runs and their commitments to NOT reprint 1st edition/ Alpha product? Are we getting a Pokemon print run promise or something more substantial?
2020-11-06 02:00:43 +0000 UTCcareful man, your going to get flagged and zccount frozen for spam...slow down man

2020-11-06 01:40:46 +0000 UTCCouple questions. First: are you satisfied with the growth of the game under a very difficult year with shutdowns and difficulty with delays on the logistics side. How many sets not counting reprint unlimited sets do you plan to drop per year. Last question: as a company would you consider limiting the number of times a card can be reprinted. Example sol ring, tarmogoyf . Amazing cards that have been destroyed due to over reprinting. I understand some cards and mechanics need to be reprinted but . Putting a reprint limit each card. To continue the constant creativity of the game vs trying to ride on past ideas. Consider hiring terese nielsen. Would only be amazing for the game!!!
2020-11-06 01:34:51 +0000 UTCWill LSS be greedy like some other companies and print cards to customer eventually? In terms of expanding the games reach, does LSS have a time line?
2020-11-06 00:58:34 +0000 UTCIs LSS happy with the number of classes in the game, or will you guys keep adding more classes as the game ages? While heroes are still league, do you plan on just having one adult hero of each class, or will there be multiple adult heroes of the same class legal in classic constructed at the same time?
2020-11-06 00:19:39 +0000 UTCHow long do they intend to keep the unlimited version of sets in print?
2020-11-05 23:29:50 +0000 UTCWill F&B have a reserved list?

2020-11-05 23:23:10 +0000 UTCWith "non-rotating" formats, how long does FaB plan to print the unlimited boxes of each set...1 year... 5...10...Indefinitely? They must see how this would make unlimited boxes completely un-investable.

2020-11-05 22:55:00 +0000 UTCNot to sound like a noob but I am just getting into this as some of these may have already been asked/answered 1. What if any is the planned schedule for future releases of main sets(welcome to Rathe) and “expansion” sets (crucible of war) 2. What is the policy on reprints moving forward after the upcoming unlimited release. Will this be a common theme or will a “reserve list” type setup be followed 3. Based on previous question as years go by how will the format be managed to bring in new players without having the issue of needing to have/play with out of print or hard/expensive to get card. By this I mean to be competitive or play at a lgs/event 4. Will you have special or chase cards, like the “cold foil” cards in first set in any futures sets or was that a one time deal. 5. Is there literature on the backstory of the cards available or is there plans to have some type of set up 6. Will future sets tie in to existing constructs/archetypes or will they be stand alone. 7. How long will sets be in “print” and what kinds of print runs are you thinking of
2020-11-05 22:52:03 +0000 UTCThis is a really clever idea.
2020-11-05 22:44:25 +0000 UTCI'm not sure but hopefully, it's just a rumour but James White or some in some FaB team is also directly selling FaB singles? that's why the price of FaB singles is kinda weird?
2020-11-05 22:00:18 +0000 UTCSince WotC has failed to deliver. Will you ever consider putting Rudy's likeness onto one of your cards?
2020-11-05 21:49:40 +0000 UTCA lot of companies bend under pressure to political or social justice views a lot. What is your take on these and will you let it affect your game like other companies have?

2020-11-05 20:48:19 +0000 UTCI feel your pain in this, but I think this is mostly a 2020 issue combined with a company only making a limited amount of product in order to not lose their butts. I’d expect prices to plummet on unlimited product. Even single prices from ChannelFireball look to be very reasonable at the moment, and I expect prices to drop further.

2020-11-05 20:46:31 +0000 UTCFrom what is on their website, heroes stick around until they have 10 championship victories. The virus slowed that down a bit, but last I saw, Bravo was in the lead with 3/10. Several other heroes are at the 1/10.

2020-11-05 20:39:57 +0000 UTCAre you focused on growing the game more than printing cash grab products (like WOTC: secret lair, multiple versions of booster boxes per product, etc)? Is there a way to order directly from you?
2020-11-05 20:35:50 +0000 UTCAny intention of having a Digital version of the game in the near or far future??
2020-11-05 20:27:43 +0000 UTCAre there plans or interests in introducing realm cards that act as an environment influence to gain or penalize character types or both characters like no go agains, or some other affect like metal armor is ignored etc. To act as another layer of variability and tie back to realms?

2020-11-05 20:16:50 +0000 UTCRight now there is a lot of confusion about Crucible of War. Some people insist that there will be another influx of 1st Edition boxes, but then major sites like Miniature Market are currently accepting preorders for "second printing" that are not labeled as 1st edition in any way. Can you bring clarity to the plans for Crucible of War versions? Longer term, can you have a place on your website that is just very explicit about things like this so players are better able to make informed purchasing decisions?
2020-11-05 20:13:02 +0000 UTCWill certain playmats be limited and will certain playmats be available indefinitely? Also, will LSS take action against people who try to sell fakes? Does LSS plan on implementing any other types of collectors items?
2020-11-05 19:35:45 +0000 UTCMy questions are: 1) how does FaB set itself apart from other CCGs? How can you break the mold for this type of product and reinvent the game genre? 2) is LSS open to releasing another style of sealed box product other than booster boxes? (similar to how mtg has collector boxes , pre con decks, and gift packs) 3.) I find that draft is a little more involving and more expensive especially if new players are involved, how can you attract new players or even people new to card games? Are there plans for new game modes or new intro decks?
2020-11-05 19:34:09 +0000 UTCI can’t even get my hands on a deck for a reasonable price so that i can play with my friends. How will you balance investor’s needs vs the needs of players?

2020-11-05 19:15:45 +0000 UTCConsidering your strongest competition (WotC) is losing customers after frequent vain attempts to appeal to ideologically driven players, will you steer clear of social justice issues in your content/advertising to ensure a captivating fantasy (escape from reality) experience?

2020-11-05 19:03:18 +0000 UTCDo they plan to make an online version of FaB (like arena)? If so, how would they attempt to prevent the erosion of the secondary market due to the online version? Are the creators of FaB mindful of the secondary market? Do they have any ideas to promote a healthy secondary market for FaB (like reserved lists etc)?
2020-11-05 19:02:27 +0000 UTCQuestion: I grew up in the era of 90s CCGs, Star Wars, Young Jedi, Babylon 5, Legend of the Five Rings, Lord of the Rings, they all come and go. What separates FaB from these games?
2020-11-05 18:57:46 +0000 UTCDoes Legends Story Studios have any plans to be acquired in the future or do they intend to stay an indie company?
2020-11-05 18:52:01 +0000 UTCSo far, I love the game over all, mechanics and art are fantastic. However, when I mentioned the game to my LGS, they informed me that they don't plan to carry FaB. As a fan, what can I do to change their mind and as a company, what will you do to get passed these barriers?
The Cardboard Crackhead
2020-11-05 18:44:43 +0000 UTCBackstory: I have been playing Flesh and blood since January 2020 and have been doing mass box openings since the release of Crucible of war in August 28th. I have opened over 80 individual boxes of Crucible of war and noticed something very strange regarding the printing occurrence of some cards. https://fabtcg.com/articles/crucible-war-inside-pack/ According to the article, it discusses "short print" cards being intentionally printed and most noticeably are cards with the legendary wording. This left me with the question “Are there other cards besides those with legendary text wording?” This said, I further noticed that in another interview with James https://fabtcg.com/articles/crucible-war-q/ They discussed further change in rarity eliminating supers to just mythic. For those of you who do not play, supers tend to be good cards but were nowhere near the level power of majestic cards. The new consolidation of rarity in crucible of war has seen the elimination of the super rarity and consolidated them with majestic. I have assembled numerous alpha crucible of war RF/CF sets and discovered that within each class, not counting the equipment Majestics, there is class majestic 1 card that occurs at just about 1/3 rate as other Majestics and the others at the rate at which other supers would be pulled. To add some credence to my discovery, I went to various large stores that sell FAB singles in USA and New Zealand and found that their specific stock for these theorized class specific Majestics cards were also about 1/3 that of the cards that other Majestics were. In the interview, it James stated that players would know what cards are the “good” ones would be hence the consolidation. Does what I experience reflect cards that are short print run? Does each class have 1 majestic, not accounting for equipment, that are short print? Thanks.

2020-11-05 18:09:10 +0000 UTCThe art for Flesh and Blood has that old school card game aesthetic and is a big part of the game to me like MTG. Would it be possible as the game grows to get some of the popular artists that MTG uses today or in the past. Any ideas of alternate promo art of existing hero's. Or alternate art in general for any cards Is there any plans for non-huminoid hero's in the future. Like a brute- bear with reprints of some cards for the class having new art to support the look of a bear hero like savage swing for example. Could there be future plans as the game grows to redesign pack structure so that there is a token/weapon slot as apposed to the Crucible structure of having them in the common slot.
2020-11-05 18:07:14 +0000 UTCWill you eventually plan on printing cards in the US also? The quality is worse here than any other country with MTG. If you do open shop here in the US will the quality be top notch? Or is there going to be a story behind the game and in depth like other tcgs?
Phillip Graham
2020-11-05 18:02:39 +0000 UTCBy quite a lot of legendaries you must mean 1 or 2 as they are all equipment. They are not some kind of auto win condition. also they are only 99 dollars in unlimeted edition. Not even close to a barrier

2020-11-05 18:02:05 +0000 UTCDo you have any plans for developing a digital form of F&B?
2020-11-05 17:59:43 +0000 UTCI’m here to ask the hard questions! Harry Potter or Star Wars?! 🤔 Seriously though, do you ever plan for hero rotation or will these heroes get to stay with us? While rotation or some way to keep the meta fresh is probably inevitable, much like commander in MTG I get attached to my hero much like I do my commander and one of the biggest benefits to the commander format on top of no rotation is that I can always play my commander regardless of how the meta changes. Any chance heroes will get to stick around?! Would love to see heroes be exempt from rotation if there ever is one.
2020-11-05 17:53:21 +0000 UTCbusiness related questions... In the next 5 years do u plan on alternate card variations outside of foil/non-foil? In the next 5 years do u plan on creating supplemental products such like preconstructed decks? In the next 5 years do u plan on doing any direct to consumer product sales? In the next 5 years, do u anticipate having limited print runs or print to demand runs? While product growth and adoption is most important to new companies, what will you do to try to maintain customer loyalty beyond the average 18-24 month life of most standard TCG players? Do you have any plans to vertically integrate from card development to card sales over the next 5 years?

2020-11-05 17:14:14 +0000 UTCHello James and rest at Legend Story Studios. About 5 years ago I developed a PVE/PvP TCG adventure draw game based off of D&D, and the Pathfinder Adventure TCG. Head, chest, legs etc slots, starting primary and secondary weapon, trinket slot etc (OSRS, Diablo style) And the "backpack" was the hero's Deck (that begins with a base layout that progresses with the story) The dungeon, exploration and social aspects were set apart into different decks to be drawn for events and story progress. The cards act as prompts and the Roleplay is done with Theatre of the Mind. (Hand size could be done via Str/Sex or Int/Wis depending on the class) I have a world, setting, iconic characters, etc. So it was really awesome to see a game actually developed and make it off the ground. (Alot of people already asked a similar question to mine, PvE, but also - are you hiring? Lol are visas a thing for Australia atm? I was almost hired by JaGeX in 2010, and could of saved the disaster that was Evolution of Combat, so it would be nice to put my talents to some use. (Other Question: How or what do you plan to do to market your IP? Pokemon has iconic characters and story line, so did Magic, so I'm curious what other media's you're going to use to introduce players to the World of Flesh and Blood?

2020-11-05 17:06:32 +0000 UTCThe Collector Centre is a great boon to many people and contains a lot of useful information. That being said do you intend to keep expanding upon it and adding new information? We will eventually see which promos are out of print, how many were created, have they all been given out, how many of each Fabled, etc? With such a focus on collectability as well as just having a great game this information has been widely conjectured and postulated upon and official clarification would be greatly appreciated.
2020-11-05 17:04:30 +0000 UTC1.) Given the incredibly disparity in price between 1st edition print runs and Unlimited editions, what is LSS' target for how long 1st editions will be available on shelves going forward? That is, in their ideal world, how long after release should I be able to walk into my LGS and buy or draft a 1st edition booster of Monarch and all future sets? 2.) Relatedly, are there any plans for the future to prevent stores from holding their first edition stock and then selling for a massive markup like CFB is currently doing? Obviously that is a unique situation as they received the product after the price spike, but given the gap in 1st edition vs unlimited edition pricing, there seems like there would be an incentive for stores to reserve some portion of their 1st ed product to sell at inflated prices if they can expect to flip it in for several times MSRP in a short time frame. 3. The Collector's Centre (https://fabtcg.com/collectors-centre/) is an unusually generous offering of information that many other companies would opt not to share. Can we expect expansion of some of the TBA and ? mark categories (such as print runs sizes and F rarity rates) in the future or do we have as much information on the currently covered sets as you plan to let out? 4. Finally, the Collector's Centre currently lists print dates for promos but no total number. Promos have been an especially valuable segment of the game to date, but there also is no clear indication that they won't be reprinted in identical format or that LSS isn't reserving some quantity of them to distribute in the future. Can we ever expect to have this sort of information or is the community always going to be rolling the dice with these cards outside of the very few (Team Covenant exclusives, for example) that have some sort of partner agreement in place to limit future distribution? Thanks!

2020-11-05 17:00:41 +0000 UTCWith the cost of entry into this game being akin to building a legacy MtG deck, how do you jump that hurdle and make this a card game that actually sees play vs mainly staying in the hands of investors and eventually becoming worthless as a result?

2020-11-05 16:49:50 +0000 UTCQuestion: With your CFB partnership, they seemed to have been allocated a number of WTR, ARC, and CRU boxes that they are now selling well above MSRP. Is this something we can expect from CFB and LSS partnerships in the future? Do you have plans to enforce something like MAP that ensures that B&Ms do not hold product they are receiving at distributor-level pricing to turn around and sell on eBay well above MSRP? Up until now, everything you've been doing as a company has seemed quite legit, but this deal and CFB's behavior here brings some of that into question. It is especially problematic as they are a large retailer with connections at the distributor level, so they will have a great deal of insider knowledge of when a product is near going out of print. We've already seen issues with them on limiting product for sale at MSRP prices, issues with properly issues refunds for some of those orders, and then magically having additional product they can then sale after the official OOP announcement.

2020-11-05 16:43:28 +0000 UTCI believe the longevity of a game not only comes from the system of play it’s built upon, but the opportunities for diverse play the game can offer. The first “block” of this game has established a cornerstone of the “heroes” in this universe, and in the video released with the ChannelFireball partnership, a comment was made regarding ancient beings waking up. Are there plans to make PvE content for the game, where players fight as a group to defeat a leviathan, or complete a dungeon to complement the already established PvP styles of play?

2020-11-05 16:33:32 +0000 UTCReferring to mtg commander format is the most popular within my play group because decks have a larger variance between games. 2020-11-05 16:27:58 +0000 UTCComing from MTG; I'm an avid Commander/EDH player because the group setting is what really keeps me coming back (the talking and speaking a common language with strangers) vs the one on one play of other formats where there is little talking and we are just trying to kill one another. It seems that FAB could do something similar with 4 heroes battling it out. Do you plan to create a format and corresponding cards that make that possible?
2020-11-05 16:27:56 +0000 UTCCollectability is a core component of the game and is communicated that a player can "Invest" into on multiple pages of the FABTCG website. With the last two sets coming out only a few months apart does that mean you guys have had the first 3 or 5 sets of cards and mechanics already designed from the initial several years? Or is there some kind of formula you have to be able to make this many new cards and abilities without as long of a period of play testing? 2020-11-05 16:24:16 +0000 UTCMy question is fairly simple do you and your team believe Legendary cards (one of in decks ) should be a auto include playable in all deck formats. Even with unlimited printing any card with a value more the 20$ starts forcing players away from certain strategies. The fabled and Legendaries have shown to command a crazy high price because the game is also highly collectable. What is FAB doing to insure players play and collector collect without pushing each other to madness.
Michael L
2020-11-05 16:23:44 +0000 UTCMy question: currently most semi competitive decks to competitive decks run quite a lot of legendarys. The pull rates on these cards a quite low leading to the cards being very expensive. Supply will help but growth will keeps prices high. How will this barrier to entry into tournament play be addressed. This may lead to a massive power level disparity when tournament s become available in the US and other countries.
2020-11-05 16:22:57 +0000 UTC1. Will you have an online version of the game? 2. How are you marketing the product to grow the player base? 3. 2020-11-05 16:19:58 +0000 UTCAll the boosters boxes are great. I like the whole alpha print name, which should had said on the boxes instead the change to first print. I feel the unlimited print is too soon. I'm just hoping the fable cards and legendary cards are not going be easy to get. Hopefully, the unlimited doesn't ruin the secondary market for first print runs. My honest opinion, no fable cards should be in th unlimited print so it keeps that rarity. if there is should be extremely harder to obtain. Now, anyone can just buy tons of boxes just to get those cards and now the value of first prints goes way down. I love this game and want to see this rise to the top. As a collector and player still going to buy your unlimited print runs.
2020-11-05 16:19:43 +0000 UTCObviously one of the biggest hurdles for new TCG’s, that almost none of them overcome, is that no one knows it exists. What are your plans for advertising and getting this game on people’s radar?
