Semi-productive weekend
Added 2019-04-01 00:07:34 +0000 UTCI did manage to get some coding done and 5 new Oliver body shapes have been added. (915 renders) the issue is, I am still tuning and taming the new PC. I had some intermittent problems with blue screens which are usually caused by bad drivers or corrupted system files, but once I was done with my chkdsk, the blue screens did not stop.
With most of the hardware being new, the usual suspects are RAM settings so I started with increasing voltage a little to see if it would increase stability, but it didn’t. Windows’ Memory test would fail before dumping its log, so I spent one day running my sticks one at a time and the second day running them with lower speed. At that point I started thinking it might be a faulty CPU, since it has the memory controller integrated in it.
Currently, I’m running stable at lower speed and increased voltage on stick No2… Stick No1 by itself keeps causing random crashes even with lowered speed (under-clocked) so it looks like I’ve found the culprit. I’ll have to RMA the kit to Corsair.
No Biggy, these things happen with new builds sometimes even new hardware can break and that’s what warranties are for.
I’ve been working with all types of hardware over the years and many system integrator as well, the advantage of system integrator like Dell or HP is that they validate the hardware for you, they always use the same components, so compatibility is assured. When building yourself you usually save a few hundreds, but you must be able to do that part of the work yourself. Then in case of faulty hardware both ways are time consuming. Either you spend hours doing the diagnostic yourself or you spend hours on hold with the integrator tech support… In both cases, you’ll have to wait for the replacement parts or the service technician to come and replace your faulty components.
I don’t expect any major setback from this event, I can still run the PC on one stick while the new RAM gets shipped, its just a little slower but good enough to keep going. The April reward is uploaded and ready to ship once the Pledges are completed and Build 9.1 should be published before Easter’s long weekend.
It will include the Bree Date and the first cut-scene along with bug fixes and possibly some Chapter 3 content.
Cheers!
