Patreon Alternative

Hey guys

As you may know, the alternative to Patreon is now up and running as of this month.

This alternative was set up to give me some insurance from the increasingly unclear future that Patreon seems to be heading toward. A few of you already know some of the controversies that Patreon has had over the last several years, including layoffs, security breaches, the CEO admitting they're not profitable, the corporation wanting editorial control over creator content, and in some cases demanding to be given access to private Google Drives and other storage, banning and de-platforming people who aren't politically aligned with Patreon for activity outside of the platform, and most recently they have laid off their security team.

Patreon has said they will be outsourcing their cybersecurity after the security team left.

I don't believe in putting all my eggs in one basket. To be entirely honest, the only benefit that Patreon provides is being where everyone's subscriptions are. The platform offers no benefit to me in any way, shape, or form to warrant their 8% cut. There is no file hosting or distribution, no mailing list functions. It is a paywalled blog and nothing more. With it seeming to fray at the edges, I highly recommend that other creators look into alternatives.

I will be creating an MMF Tribes...errr...Tribe...next month. Their rates are just as greedy as Patreon, and they have no interest in promoting creators unless they're the big names with thousands of subs, but at least file hosting is a feature, so it's not entirely worthless.

I would like to encourage my supporters to move over to my Ritual Casting Cult membership as it is far more beneficial to me as a creator. Its automation also gives you benefits as a subscriber, with rewards delivered earlier than Patreon and straight to your inbox with links that don't expire. You no longer have to click links in posts or miss content again. It's also slightly cheaper (depending on the currency conversion rates, of course).

The easiest way to switch would be to cancel your Patreon sub this month and sub to RC Cult next month. If you'd like to switch sooner just let me know and I can refund Patreon for you.

On a side note, work-in-progress shots for October's model will be coming on Monday - it's a big project with lots of hard surface modelling, which I'm not so fast at, so I've mostly been concentrating and keeping my head down as the timescale on it is quite tight.
