I explained to my brother what I meant, and he nodded while finishing his pile of pancakes covered with whipped cream, strawberries, and syrup that I had prepared for him.
“Sounds good to me. We were going to Fenrir’s Dungeon anyway, so we can get that done on the way, Hilda,” said Jack.
“So we’re going on a road trip?” Baihe wondered. “Oh wow, I always wanted to go on a road trip!”
“Heheh, well, you could say that, but it’ll be a bit dangerous. You know, since the First Awakening, the world outside has become full of monsters and dungeons,” I said.
“Ah, yes,” she nodded. “But we’re strong. I’m sure we can get through this together.”
“Well said,” my brother nodded. “Yeah, we are strong. A road trip is completely doable, so let’s do it. I was thinking of doing something different than just training or going to Gates and Dungeons with Anna. I think she was getting a bit bored of them.”
“You think so?” I raised an eyebrow. “Anyway, when do we depart? Next week? Or are you in a hurry, Hilda?”
“Actually, next week sounds fine to me! I just want to get there and be done with it, honestly. I’ve been thinking about it nonstop for the last few days, and sometimes I end up making mistakes at work because of it,” she sighed. “And if we can really defeat that Dragon, maybe we can use those scales. Yeah, it’s really great.”
She was totally thinking about using that dragon as materials!
I guess even when talking about the monster that took her family, her way of thinking is already too much like a total blacksmith nutjob.
She cannot think of anything other than using materials and smashing metal together.
Hilda is a completely lost cause at this point, and I blame that old man from Olympus.
[The Cosmic Throne {Divine Forger of Olympus} nods, saying he wants you to go with Hilda to that place ASAP! A week is too long though! He wants you to go right away and get that dragon’s materials!]
[He offers you a Special Quest.]
Huh? Wait, what?
[You have received the Special Constellation Quest from the Cosmic Throne: {Divine Forger of Olympus}: [Slay The Great Fire Dragon And Destroy The Dragon Gate]!]
[Difficulty]: [SSS]
[Time Limit]: [7 Days]
[Conditions]: [Slay the Great Fire Dragon, Vulcanus: 0/1] [Destroy the Dragon Gate: 0/1]
[Rewards]: [A Special Privilege, Plot Points, and Something Extra]
[Failure]: [The disappointment of the {Divine Forger of Olympus} and him no longer supporting your growth]
[You have been tasked with a special quest from the God of Forging himself, asking you to defeat the powerful Great Fire Dragon that invaded Hilda’s hometown and destroy the Dragon Gate where he and his minions came from.]
[Because you’ve helped Hilda progress this far, he seems very keen on you and wants you not to disappoint him in this endeavor.]
Huh. He really gave me a Special Quest.
I could simply not accept it, you know.
But.
Um.
Eh.
Huh.
Okay, it does seem pretty tempting!
What sort of Privilege could he give me? If it’s something to craft, it might be useful.
Also, there’s that “something extra,” and he really got me with that.
Ugh, fine.
We can hurry up a little. We can get going in three days instead, get there by the weekend, and then destroy that guy and his gate.
Alright, deal!
[The Cosmic Throne {Monkey that Dances in Chaos} is shocked! He’s asking why that damned old man is daring to order you around with a super enticing quest and why he didn’t think of it before?]
[The Cosmic Throne {Butterfly That Flies Across The Universe} pretends not to care about you or the quest, but she’s jealous.]
Oh! Hey, guys.
[The Cosmic Throne {Maiden that Watches Over Nature} smiles, saying that this is a great opportunity for you to forge strong bonds with the Olympus Nebula.]
[The Cosmic Throne {Warrior That Seeks Calamity} nods, saying his brother might be a little weird sometimes, but he’s a good and trustworthy man.]
Yep, that’s what two Gods from Olympus would say.
[The Cosmic Throne {Ancient King that Sits On A Throne of Gold} laughs! He offers you double Hephaestus’ rewards if you can find the {Ancient Labyrinth of Mesopotamia} and bring him his Divine Golden Scepter.]
Wait, I didn’t even know that Dungeon existed. Huh.
Alright, Gilgamesh, maybe we can arrange something at a later date.
[The Cosmic Throne {Black Jackal that Judges the Dead} glares at you with suspicion.]
[The Cosmic Throne {Lady that Soothes the Souls of the Dead} wonders if {Black Jackal that Judges the Dead} is somewhat mellowing toward you.]
[The Cosmic Throne {Black Jackal that Judges the Dead} barks angrily, denies it, and runs away with his tail between his legs.]
What’s wrong with that guy? Why is he even here? Doesn’t he hate me?
[The Cosmic Throne {Drama Loving King of Wine} offers you a cup of wine but then quickly realizes you’re underage and retracts the offer.]
Why are you even here?
[The Cosmic Throne {Giantess Queen of the Frost Throne} wonders if she should also give Baihe a quest.]
So, are you going to become Baihe’s sponsor for real now, Skadi?
[The Cosmic Throne {Heroic Thunder Hammer} says, “Hey, you damned old man! Who do you think you’re ordering around with that quest? That brat will be MY incarnation! I will ORDER her around instead!”]
Yeah, they all just appeared at the same time, right away.
Can’t say I missed them. They’re pretty annoying.
Just look at this mess. How many of them are there?
Can’t they seriously use another server to talk to each other?
But.
Well, when I was back in Bestia, I sometimes looked around, waiting for some message for some weird reason.
Despite how annoying they can be, these guys do cheer me up sometimes.
Anyway.
[You have accepted the Special Constellation Quest: [Slay The Great Fire Dragon And Destroy The Dragon Gate]!]
[Time Limit: 7 Days]
[When the Time Limit reaches zero, you will automatically fail this Quest and receive the Failure Penalties.]
“Alright, how about we go a little earlier then? I guess you’re feeling a bit too nervous about it, Hilda,” I said. “I understand how you feel.”
“Oh, really? Thanks, Anna!” Hilda said happily. “So when do we go?”
“How about in three more days, on Wednesday morning?” I asked. “I think we can get there by the weekend.”
“Sounds great to me! I think I can finish all the commissions in three days with the feathers you gave me,” she said. “So, once we get going, I won’t have anything else left to do. Anyway! I gotta go. I just came here to check on you briefly! Life’s busy for a blacksmith, heh! See ya!”
She quickly ran out of our house after deciding the date. She was really a busy girl, but good for her! She’s earning that money, that’s for sure.
“I suppose we can move it to Wednesday, although you should have asked me before deciding the date right away,” my brother said grumpily, crossing his arms.
“Heheh, sorry,” I apologized. “Um, but you’re okay with that, right?”
“He is. He’s just trying to act like a big brother,” Fenrir commented, as he ate what we had served to Hilda, a plate of eggs and bacon. “Hey, Anna, can you make more pancakes? I’m still hungry!”
“Fenrir, you ruined the moment! I was just trying to look like a cool big brother for once,” Jack complained to him.
“Hey, you’re the awkward one here!” Fenrir barked back. “Also, when are you going to see Henrietta again? It’s been several days since you last saw her! Why are you hiding from her?”
“I’m not hiding from anybody,” Jack muttered, suddenly getting flustered for some reason.
Did he just get embarrassed?
Wait a minute, what’s going on here?
“Well! We were going to visit Henrietta and her brother anyway, so how about we go together, brother? With Baihe,” I said. “It’ll be fun, come on.”
“Uh, fine,” he sighed, scratching his head awkwardly.
“What’s going on?” Baihe whispered in my ear.
“I don’t know. I think he’s hiding something,” I said suspiciously.
“Huh.” We both looked at my brother, who quickly averted his gaze and went to wash the dishes.
[The Cosmic Throne {Divine Judge of Flames} sighs, saying that he might know something regarding that.]
[He says it is a very serious topic.]
Huh? Wait, what? Gabriel?
[The Cosmic Throne {Divine Judge of Flames} says that there’s also another serious topic he would like to discuss with you later, with Henrietta preferably.]
[It has to do with demons. Or, well, it has to do with their King.]
Oh.
Wait, Lucifer?
[…]
I guess that’s all he had to say, acting all mysterious out of nowhere!
What’s gotten into him?
Hmm.
I knew he would do something eventually, but didn’t he receive a lot of damage?
How is that bastard going to suddenly get up and start stirring up something?
Oh well, I can’t really predict what he’ll do specifically.
But I’ll be prepared. I haven’t grown this powerful for nothing.
“Alright, are you girls ready?”
After we took a bath and changed clothes, Baihe and I were ready to depart. My brother had been waiting for us for over an hour, sitting on the couch.
“Yeah, um, are you okay?” I asked him.
“I’m fine,” he said. “Why?”
“Um, I was just wondering why you haven’t met Henrietta for a while,” I said. “Isn’t she your girlfriend?”
Jack fell silent again.
“Eh?” I looked at him, tilting my head. “She isn’t? Don’t tell me you screwed up!”
“I didn’t screw up anything,” Jack sighed. “Don’t worry about these things, Anna. You have your own life. My problems are mine to solve.”
“No, they aren’t. I can help you!” I said. “Henrietta is the best thing that has happened to you. Don’t fumble this!”
“I’m not fumbling anything,” he rolled his eyes. “It’s not what you think, okay? So calm down.”
“Then what is it?” I asked.
