Demigod Class Ascension Chapter 12: Upgrades

-----

Will quickly got to work, upgrading everyone’s weapons at the very least. This included John’s gun, which he had imbued with Spirit Crystals and monster cores—crystallizations of rich Mana that transformed the normal gun into a Magic Gun prototype. Now, there was no need for the police officer to waste extra Mana creating bullets, as the gun could handle the task efficiently.

In fact, this seemed to be the intended way for a Gunner to fight. However, because John had never received or found a Magic Gun before, he had been forced to expend more Mana than necessary to create bullets and fight with a standard gun. The Magic Gun could also be recharged with its own Mana Battery, which utilized Monster Cores. The gun’s compartment could only accept Tier 1 Cores, but these were sufficient to produce at least fifty bullets before requiring a simple recharge.

[Predatory Magic Handgun (D+ Grade)]

[Weapon Type]: [Magic Weapon] [Gun]

[Weapon Requirements]: [Gunner Class]

[Weapon Parameters]: [Physical Attack]: [700] [Magic Attack]: [700] [Durability]: [1500]

[Weapon Bonuses]: [+5 Magic Power] [+5 Dexterity] [+5 Agility] [+5 Senses]

[Weapon Skill]: {Magic Bullet Creation}: [By using the reserve Mana within the Mana Battery of the Magic Gun, it is possible to create powerful Magic Bullets to shoot at foes from afar. The Special Class [Gunner] is required to utilize this ability correctly and properly. Each Bullet deals damage based on the Weapon’s Physical and Magic Attack Stats, plus the user’s Magic Power and Dexterity Stats. Additionally, there’s a 10% chance per bullet shot to become a {Predatory Bullet}, chasing preferred foes even if initially missed and dealing an additional 30% Damage.]

[Weapon Description]: [A Magic Handgun created by upgrading a normal handgun using Magisteel and Spirit Stones. It comes with a small compartment where Tier 1 Magic Cores can be placed to refill the Magic Gun’s Mana Battery.]

As John read the weapon’s description, he was awed by its array of abilities and bonuses. Holding the gun, he felt stronger, thanks to the weapon’s [Weapon Bonuses]—extra stats that those who meet the Weapon’s Class Requirement can enjoy.

“Damn, son, this is incredible. I never imagined it was possible to actually turn a normal handgun into this…” the police officer said. “Maybe this way I can be of more use, hopefully.”

“You should concentrate on using your Skills to empower the bullets the Magic Gun creates,” Will explained, after learning a little more about how the Gunner Class worked. “You were fighting inefficiently before, as you had to produce the bullets yourself… Apparently, the Magic Gun does that, and you use your Skills to turn the bullets of your choosing into stronger versions or to fire a rapid sequence of shots to overwhelm enemies.”

“Interesting… You’re really good at adapting, I can tell. Most people out there wouldn’t be able to calmly analyze any of these crazy things happening around here,” John said, nodding after hearing Will’s words. “Will do, son. Thank you for the advice.”

Meanwhile, the other weapons he had upgraded were Evelyn’s Bow, which had become a longbow to generate stronger magic arrows with longer reach; Ralph’s Healer Wand, which had become longer with a harder and more durable composition, made to smash at foes’ heads; and lastly, Vivian’s wooden staff, which was now embedded with Magisteel and Spirit Stones, empowering her magic tremendously.

[Strengthened Magic Longbow (D++ Grade)]

[Weapon Type]: [Magic Weapon] [Longbow]

[Weapon Requirements]: [Archer Class]

[Weapon Parameters]: [Physical Attack]: [800] [Magic Attack]: [1200] [Durability]: [1700]

[Weapon Bonuses]: [+5 Magic Power] [+5 Dexterity] [+5 Agility] [+5 Senses]

[Weapon Skill]: {Elemental Arrow}: [By spending Mana and imbuing it into the Bow, it is possible for the Archer to create Elemental Arrows of three different elements: Fire, Ice, and Lightning. Each Arrow deals additional damage if the foe is weak against any of these elements and possesses unique traits, such as Fire Arrows being explosive and dealing area-of-effect damage, Ice Arrows freezing opponents, and Lightning Arrows being incredibly fast and accurate.]

[Weapon Description]: [A novice-level Magic Bow granted to anybody who chooses the Path of the Archer Class, now enhanced and strengthened using Magisteel, Spirit Crystals, and Magic Cores. It has reached its next stage, capable of creating elemental arrows to further assist their wielder.]

“Oh my gosh, it’s so cool! Thank you so much, Will! I’m indebted now… hahah!” Evelyn was so happy she even giggled like a child getting the present they wanted for Christmas while holding her bow.

[Strengthened White Silver Wand (D++ Grade)]

[Weapon Type]: [Magic Weapon] [Wand]

[Weapon Requirements]: [Healer Class]

[Weapon Parameters]: [Physical Attack]: [900] [Magic Attack]: [900] [Durability]: [2000]

[Weapon Bonuses]: [+5 Strength] [+5 Vitality] [+5 Magic Power] [+5 Magic Defense]

[Weapon Skill]: {Holy Wand}: [This Wand has been granted the small blessing of the Domains of Nature and Holy, through the instructions of the Priest of the Holy Tree Cult. Whenever a Healer Class user wields it, their single target Healing Spells become multi-target, targeting as many allies or foes as the Magic Power the user possesses. Additionally, when fighting Evil, Heretic, Demonic, or Undead foes, Physical and Magic Damage increases by 50%.]

[Weapon Description]: [A small wand exquisitely crafted using White Silver and imbued with Holy Light from a powerful Priest, stolen from a Priest of the Cult of the Holy Tree by the Green Skin Tribe of the Great Beyond and given to a Goblin Healer as a reward for their promotion. This wand excels not only in conjuring Healing Magic, enhancing single-target spells into multi-target, but also in giving a beating to unruly heretics. Now further enhanced, it performs its role even better.]

“The Wand is more of the same, but sometimes that’s all you need. Thank you, Will,” Ralph was very grateful for what he had received.

[Spiritual Blackwood Magic Staff (D++ Grade)]

[Weapon Type]: [Magic Weapon] [Staff]

[Weapon Requirements]: [Magician Class]

[Weapon Parameters]: [Physical Attack]: [300] [Magic Attack]: [2000] [Durability]: [1000]

[Weapon Bonuses]: [+10 Magic Power] [+5 Magic Defense] [+5 Senses]

[Weapon Skill]: {Lesser Elemental Spirit Call}: [By channeling Mana into the Staff, it is possible to call upon three types of Lesser Elemental Spirits: Dark Wood Spirits, Fiery Volcano Spirits, and Sea Algae Spirits. Each can enhance the Elemental Power of the Magician’s Spells and enchant them with their own unique Spiritual Power, further increasing their versatility and potency. Summoned Lesser Spirits can also attack independently or defend their master but will depart after a few minutes, depending on how much Mana is offered to them. Additionally, reduces Spell Conjuration Mana Cost by 20% and increases Mana Recovery Speed by 30%.]

[Weapon Description]: [A cursed staff wielded by a Goblin Shaman, made from the highly magical branch of a Darkwood Tree, now further enhanced and evolved into a powerful Spiritual Weapon, channeling the roots of the Darkwood branch to call upon Lesser Spirits that may be interested in helping the user if sufficient Mana is offered.]

“I feel like I can finally act like a proper magician with this. Thank you, Will…!” Vivian said. “I can even call Spirits… How does that even work? Do I just think about it?”

“Maybe. It’ll be up to you to discover that,” Will said. “Haaa… I think I’m finally done with mine.”

“Wow, you sure did something weird with that… Wasn’t it an axe?” Evelyn asked.

“Yeah, I was thinking of simply making an axe again, but I thought that perhaps going for a different approach would be better,” Will said, holding in his hands a smaller axe than the one he had, as its size had been reduced slightly, now attached to several chains.

These were chains he had found in the hideouts of the Imps, which they used to capture sacrifices with, imbued with both demonic and human blood. Although Will had not paid much attention to them, Cube had told him they were an interesting material, as they had become a Cursed Item that could draw more power in exchange for draining his life force, which he had plenty of.

Therefore, Will forged these chains into his destroyed axe, creating a new and bizarre weapon: a slightly smaller axe attached to several chains he wrapped around his arm, which he planned to use as a deadly whip for long-range attacks. He had been using chains with Water and Ice Magic before, but they were simply too Mana-intensive, and he wanted something more physical that wouldn’t disappear after a strong blow.

[Demonic Chain Axe (D+++ Grade)]

[Weapon Type]: [Magic Weapon] [Chains] [Axe]

[Weapon Requirements]: [Gladiator Class]

[Weapon Parameters]: [Physical Attack]: [1500] [Magic Attack]: [500] [Durability]: [2500]

[Weapon Bonuses]: [+7 Strength] [+5 Vitality] [+7 Agility] [+7 Dexterity] [+5 Senses]

[Weapon Skill]: {Commanding Demonic Roar}: [Spend Mana to let out a powerful Roar that commands all allied troops to charge forward, boosting their Strength, Vitality, and Agility by 20% of your Strength, Vitality, and Agility Parameters for 60 Seconds. In exchange, you’ll gain a boost of 5% of anybody you’ve commanded stats for the same duration. Additionally, Demonic Flames enhance the power of the chains, and its attack speed based on 5% of allies’ stats and the user’s Strength and Magic Power.]

[Weapon Description]: [A destroyed Magisteel Axe whose power has been restored and reinforced, fused with a set of Demonic Chains. Its original power has not only been restored but enhanced further, making it a deadly weapon bordering on C Grade.]

“It’s good enough… Though I didn’t expect the flames to work like that… and the original Commanding Ability was upgraded,” Will said. “Well, it’s good to know you’ve all gotten stronger. This weapon’s flames relies on that.”

“That so? Well, I’m glad the original Commanding ability stayed. It really came in clutch sometimes,” Vivian said. “So it produces flames now? Wait, the flames’ damage is based on OUR stats? That’s weird.”

“Yeah… I guess that’s how it’s going to be,” Will shrugged.

It was indeed a bizarre feature the weapon had, but it seemed that its original Commanding Ability, from a Goblin General, never truly went away, and whatever newly derived ability it would gain, it would always be attached to that original ability.

As he felt almost ready to depart, Will noticed a few new System Notifications that had popped up midway through his work, which he was now finally paying attention to.

[Congratulations, your Skill: [Pseudo Divine Blessing (Tier 1)] has achieved 100% growth. Your Skill is now ready for Rank Up.]

[Skill Rank Up Requirements]:

[Crystalized Divine Essence: 0/1]

[Ten Tier 2 Monster Cores: 10/10]

[All Divinely Blessed Must Be Tier 2: 3/3]

“Oh, I have almost everything…” Will rubbed his chin, crossing his arms. “Hey, Cube, how do I even get that Crystalized Divine Essence?”

“That shouldn’t be hard to create at your level right now, Master,” Cube said. “You have to simply compress a small fragment of your divine power, for example, from your Divine Armor Skill, until it crystallizes under the pressure.”

“What? That’s a thing I can do? And what are these crystals for?” Will asked.

“At your level, you should be able to produce at least one a day… They’re used as currency by Divine Beings and are highly valuable materials… Only Divine Beings such as Gods or Divine Spirits can create them,” Cube explained.

“You mean the Divine Domains?” Will asked.

“Yes, they’re the owners of their own Divine Domains, so they’re often referred to as them, but calling them Gods or Divine Spirits isn’t far-fetched either,” Cube clarified.

“Alright then… Will making one not weaken me or something?” Will was worried.

“Oh, don’t worry. Making one shouldn’t exhaust you, but if you go for more than one, well, you may receive some damage or become crippled, so don’t overexert yourself past your limits,” Cube advised.

“Alright,” Will sat down for a moment, away from everyone else who was chatting and testing their abilities, and quickly opened the palm of his hand, channeling his Divine Aura into a single point.

“Make it rotate around the palm of your hand and slowly create a small little sphere with it,” Cube instructed, as Will did as he was told.

Rapidly, Will generated a small vortex of his own Divine Power, gathering golden and azure energy compressed into the smallest point.

In that moment, Will pressed tightly with his hand, using his full physical strength.

Until…

A bright flash of light emerged, almost blinding him as he closed his eyes. Once he opened the palm of his hand again, there was a small crystalline pebble there, containing great divine power.

“Oh… it worked,” Will was amazed.

“Indeed! Congratulations, Master. I would recommend making at least one every day to prepare for when you finally arrive in the Great Beyond… or, well, when Earth is fully assimilated,” Cube said.

“Alright, will do…” Will nodded, quickly looking back at his System Messages and pressing [Yes] under the [Do you wish to Rank Up your Skill?] message.

In that moment, another bright flash of light emerged as Will saw all materials floating around him and then being absorbed by his own body, as he felt something deep within him beginning to develop.

He felt the chains within the depths of his soul loosen once more, as the second seal restraining his True Power gained numerous cracks, although it had yet to fully shatter.

Will originally had Seven Seals; each Seal was like a Chain wrapping around his True Power within his Soul. At the beginning, he had broken the First Seal, and now, he was approaching breaking the Second Seal.

“Not yet, huh? Maybe once I Rank Up my Class…”

Will smiled, nonetheless. After having finally interacted with both his Father and his Mother, and knowing that they were out there waiting for him, he had gained a new resolve and no longer felt lost.

[Congratulations! Your [Pseudo Divine Blessing (Tier 1)] Skill has Ranked Up to [Novice Divine Blessing (Tier 2: 0%)]: [Use your Divine Power to bless a target, allowing them to awaken to new power. As this Blessing grows within them, a part of their Power and Earned EXP is shared with you, and their loyalty may increase. There’s a chance for one of their Skills to become yours if their loyalty toward you and the Bond you’ve created with them are strong enough. Divine Blessing Limit: 3/6]]

“Good! The limit finally increased… With this, I could even bless Maria and John right now, but should I?”

Will thought about it for a moment, Maria was a given; he would definitely bless her. But with John, it was different. He wasn’t sure if he would remain loyal to him. Despite everything, the old man might have his own agenda, and once they were done with this dungeon, he could leave to never return.

Will wasn’t too sure, but right now, they needed that power… and he couldn’t quite deny them that, if it could also increase his own chances of survival, especially because when he blesses someone, he can gain bonus stats, and special new abilities are unlocked for his Skills.

“I should probably do it anyway. I’ll convince John to stay by my side later. He owes me a lot, after all, and he seems to be an honest man… I want to trust him.”

For the first time, Will was willing to trust someone to this extent. He wanted to trust him, to not be wrong, and he decided to take the risk.

Because without taking risks, people would never have reached so far in society… What built society at the end of the day was everyone working together and trusting one another despite everything else.

He knew that very well.

“Grant Divine Blessing: Maria and John.”

FLASH!

A bright golden and azure light emerged from Will’s body as the aura shot down into the ceiling and then fell like rain over John and Maria, their bodies suddenly assimilating this divine power instantly.

“Eh?” Maria was confused. “What’s this?”

“What the…?!” John almost had a heart attack.

[You have used the [Novice Divine Blessing (Tier 2)] Skill!]

[You have given the {Minor Divine Blessing: Botanical Boost} to [Maria]!]

[Her [Magic Power], [Magic Defense], [Agility], and [Senses] Stats have increased by 20!]

[Maria’s Druid Class Skill: [Plant Growth Boost (Tier 1)] has Evolved into [Spiritual Gardener (Tier 2)]!]

[You have given the {Minor Divine Blessing: Starlight Bullet} to [John]!]

[His [Strength], [Agility], [Magic Power], [Dexterity] Stats have increased by 20!]

[John’s Gunner Class Skill: [Magic Bullet (Tier 1)] has Evolved into [Starlight Bullet (Tier 2)]!]

[You have established a Divine Bond with your Divinely Blessed, giving you the ability to gain some of their Power.]

[You gained +5 Magic Power & Magic Defense from Maria.]

[Your Skill: [Pseudo Divine Armor (Tier 1)] has gained a +30% growth and a new Ability: [Divine Holy Tree Armor]!]

[You gained +5 Dexterity & Agility from John.]

[Your Skill: [Ocean Hand (Tier 2)] has gained a +30% growth and a new Ability: [Aqua Frost Bullet]!]

Will’s eyes widened as he felt stronger as well. He had gained a total of twenty stats, and two of his skills had also advanced their Mastery even more, gaining unique and useful abilities.

But that wasn’t everything. Maria and John also felt the changes, wondering what had just happened to them.

“Calm down, I was the one who did it,” he said. “I’ve used my Divine Blessing Skill to grant you Divine Blessings. That should have made you a little stronger.”

“Oh wow! So it was finally my turn!” Maria said happily. “I feel like I’m more connected to plants now… well, to Mister Branchy.”

“You can bless people…?” John was shocked. “T-This is… shocking. Are you really not some kind of Divine Entity, Will?”

“Well, yeah, something like that. Not even I am sure,” Will responded vaguely. He didn’t want to reveal too much information either way, as that would only cause more confusion.

“Are we ready to depart?” Vivian asked.

“One more thing…” Will said, noticing something new.

[Congratulations, you have completed Phase 1 Tutorial Objective 8: Slay 10 Tier 3 or above Lifeforms: 10/10]!]

[Please choose your Reward.]

[+6 Strength.]

[+6 Agility.]

[+6 Magic Power.]

[+6 Senses.]

[+New Rune.]

[+1 Enhanced Magic Accessory.]

“Looks like I completed another Objective… the eighth,” Will said.

“There’s that many?” Evelyn asked. “Wait, just how many are there?”

“There’s ten, Master,” Cube answered Evelyn’s question to Will. “The Phase 1 Tutorial has ten main objectives, which will help even the weakest human grow into an almost competent fighter in the Great Beyond. Phase 2 will test such abilities to their limits and help them grow even further, so they can’t just survive, but excel. And lastly, Phase 3 will be an adaptation test. That’s all I can say for now.”

“Hmm, there might be ten, I think,” Will said to Evelyn. “I would recommend you all try to complete every single objective so you can gain as much power… It seems that after you reach the eighth, you unlock something else entirely from Skills and Traits…”

Will quickly choose the option that most attracted him. It wasn’t more stats but…

[You have chosen the [+New Rune] Reward!]

The card he had grabbed, which showed the image of a man covered with glowing runes of various colors, quickly merged into his hand, disappearing and infusing him with a new power.

The single Rune suddenly manifested, becoming embedded in his right hand. It was shaped like a roaring lion made of red paint, glowing faintly until its power settled down.

Will felt a surge of fiery power, some sort of explosive power… It was new, and it felt good.

This wasn’t just an innate skill or a trait that was now part of him. Runes were completely made of Magic Power and felt alien at first, but as they imprinted into his skin and body, he felt a new path opening to him.

[You have received the [Rune Of The Berserk (1st Circle)]: [A Rune imbued with the Spirit of the Berserk Path, composed entirely of Ancient Arcane Power. When activated, the user’s Metabolism will rapidly hasten, increasing their Physical Power, Reaction Speed, and Movement Speed by 100%, and any Physical or Magical Attack will be infused with {Berserk’s Crimson Burst}, making any Attack gain an Area of Effect Explosion, but their Mana and Lifeforce will be drained over time until an upper limit, where the Rune will deactivate for a cooldown of up to 12 Hours.]

“Oh…” Will read the description, feeling surprised by its power.

“Wonderful, you’ve obtained your first Rune, Master!” Cube said. “It seems that it fits your fighting style the most. Runes are special Arcane Spells that can be imprinted into the body to gain a series of new and powerful effects. There are Passive and Active Runes, and the one you’ve obtained requires Activation. They can grant unique and Magical Effects that you won’t easily find in Skills or Traits, and above all else, if you don’t like one, you can always delete it and replace it with another one. The stronger your body is, the more Runes you can harbor… They also have Ranks, from First Circle to Seventh Circle. Later on, you’ll even be able to arrange several runes together into a Runic Circle, which can help Runes combine their effects and create a unique build just for you that can complement your Class or even compensate for weaknesses.”

As Will heard all of that information, he felt more excited about what possible future upgrades he could obtain with Runes. They seemed to be just what he needed, as both Skills and Traits still felt too restrictive sometimes, while Runes seemed to be made for customization.

“Wait, so Vivian already had one?” Will asked.

“Yes, some Runes come with Classes or Skills as well,” Cube said. “You already had a Rune; it was a Divine Ocean Domain Rune from your Ocean Hand Skill… It could even be possible to modify it once you learn more about Rune Modification.”

“Interesting…” Will nodded. “Wait, what Circle is that Rune then?”

“It’s a Unique Rune tied to a Divine Skill, so very high…” Cube said. “You can check your Status to see.”

Will nodded, quickly doing just that, finding out the secrets of that Rune that had been with him for some time now.

“Fifth Circle?!”

Will was left flabbergasted; how could a Skill just gift him such a powerful Rune?

“See now, Master? This is how advanced Divine Skills are compared to the rest! Even more, it seems that this was also tied to your Father’s Inheritance, so it made sense the Rune he gifted to you was this strong,” Cube explained. “If anything, it could very well be even stronger, but its power is sealed alongside your Divine Seals.”

“Hmm…” Will nodded, thinking about ways to harness this Rune’s power, but for now, he didn’t quite know that very well. He would have to first study how Runes worked and more, not something he could afford to do right now.

However, what he could do right now was allocate his Free Stat Points, as he had twenty right now… He quickly moved to allocate them, suddenly receiving a message.

[The Divine System has activated its Special Privilege: [Infinite Stat Reallocation]]

[You can assign your Free Stats to any of your Parameters at will, and if you don’t like how you allocated them, you can retrieve any Free Points to do it again, without any restrictions.]

“Huh…”

Will was once more surprised. Not only could he assign these points, but he could get them back if he didn’t like his allocation and reallocate them at will, however he wanted. This could potentially help him adapt to almost any situation! It was a truly wonderful ability.

He quickly decided to allocate them all to Strength for now, increasing his Strength by +20. If he felt like he needed them elsewhere, he would quickly allocate them to another stat, based on how the battle that was coming went.

After having that telepathic conversation with Cube and allocating his stats, Will finally decided that it was about time they continued. He explained to them about the new Rune he had obtained and how Vivian and a few of them could already have them but had yet to fully unlock them within their Status.

However, their conversation was quickly cut short as they moved, as they felt the powerful presence of something Demonic deep within the Dungeon. They were finally reaching the deepest depths of this Dungeon, where the Apostle of the Demonic Domain of Hell was most likely located. His powerful presence was overwhelming, spreading a strong pressure to any who dared to step into his hideout.

“A door…”

Will stood in front of a blazing red door, sealing away the last floor of the Demonic Dungeon. He didn’t have time for this, as he quickly unleashed his Divine Aura, smashing the door with a single powerful punch using his gauntlet.

BOOOM!

An explosion of blazing rocks erupted, the whole door coming down into pieces, as the interior of the last floor was revealed, much larger than the previous ones. There were what seemed to be ancient ruins in there, alongside an altar surrounded by Imps wearing black robes, and the body of a struggling young woman wrapped with cursed chains, as a taller figure was holding a knife, pointing it at her heart.

“What?! You’re here already?!”

His eyes widened as he was suddenly interrupted from whatever wicked sacrificial ritual he was doing for the Domain of Hell. Will and everyone else suddenly grew furious. The survivors that John was looking for were alive, chained next to huge pillars, one of them about to be killed!

They had to act quickly; it was now or never.

“Don’t you dare, monster!”

The police officer roared, pointing his gun at the cloaked figure. Before they could stab the girl’s chest, he shot their hand, blowing it up with an explosion of starlight.

“Aaaagggh!”

The cloaked figure screamed in agony as the rest of the Imps roared angrily, summoning strange magical weapons and charging toward everyone else.

“Kill! Kill those damn humans already!”

“Let’s go!”

Will roared, his Aura erupting with immense power as his Chain Axe’s Commanding Roar activated, empowering everyone with Will’s stats, and vice versa.

The final battle of the Demonic Dungeon was about to begin.
