THE CABIN IN THE WOODS - Full Length Reaction!

Here's the full length reaction to The Cabin in the Woods! The concept of this one is WILD! I was expecting a slasher movie that takes place in a cabin, but the concept is so much bigger than that! Enjoy!

THE CABIN IN THE WOODS - Full Length Reaction!

great reaction! im so glad you enjoyed it! i LOVE this movie, there are two sides to the story, the In universe Story and the Meta story. firstly about the people doing dumb things like going outside or actually acting stupid in general, the in lore reason is the organization, they manipulate everything to better fit the ritual, they added stuff to Jules' hair dye to make her dumber, i imagine they also influenced her going blond in the first place, they also upped her libido because they were making her fit the "role" of the "Whore", but we see at the start of the movie, like with the others, they dont really fit the roles, (which is the meta commentary coming in) so they needed to change them and force them into the needed roles, we know Dana isnt a virgin but we see her acting more and more reserved and even saying "ive never" then looking confused why she said it, because they were trying to make her fit the role, same with Curt getting dumber and acting like the alpha jock, despite earlier saying Holden was the star of the team, and and giving Dana suggestions on what to study, Holden starts wearing glasses and acting nerdy, to make him fit the Scholar role, the only one who was resistant (because apparently they missed 1 of his weed stashes which was the one he took on the trip,) was Marty, its why he heard them influencing them in the basement, and again later in his room, sadly he wasn't fully immune as we see him decide to go for a walk anyway despite knowing he heard the "puppeteers". all of this to complete the ritual, and Dana needed to be last, or the only survivor for the ritual to work. now all of that is in lore, but its extremely meta too, its commenting on how formulaic a lot of horror is, how it normally puts people in these one dimensional roles with zero depth so they can then kill them off, and only the main character might get to live, but she needs to suffer first, it also points out how people do some really dumb stuff in horror movies, like splitting up (due to the chemicals in the vents influencing them), or going outside, and staying outside (they kept changing the environment so it was more comfortable for them, or even (my favourite) how often in horror movies people drop or leave weapons behind, Dana, after beating the zombie with Holden, is still holding the weapon, we see the control guys hit a switch which then subtly saps the hammer in her hand, causing her to drop it but not alerting her, they engineered her leaving the weapon behind. this is a movie that gets better and better everytime you watch it as you notice more little things, like in the basement you can match so many of the things we see with the monsters at the end, and yea while they "choose" how they transgress "if they dont transgress they dont get punished" but they dont really choose, as we see the control room influence then to go down, even telling Dana she should read it out loud. also there are SO many easter eggs in the elevator scene, the twins from the shining, monster from Left 4 Dead game, even the less subtle pin head reference, (tho instead of a cube he has a sphere lol) the clown being an obvious one too. but yea fun scene to go back and look at if you're a fan of that stuff. but yea i love this movie, i think its a great movie on its own, but when put in the context, (Viewers are the ancients, the organization is the studios trying to appease the viewers.) and all the meta commentary it becomes an amazing movie. sorry for the ramble lol, im glad you seemed to enjoy yourself despite the jumpscares and not normally being a fan of horror! great reaction as always! (also something i missed on my first watch through, i believe Marty is what stopped the cave in, they mention a power overwrite from up top caused the signal to never be sent, we later see Marty has been messing with the maintenance panel trying to figure out how to work it, suggesting him messing with that nearly saved the others)

Tesh

It could have easily lead to sequels if they hadn't let the world get destroyed.

This may be my favorite horror comedy. My only real complaint about this movie is that the monster they summoned was essentially zombies. I would have liked to see them being chased and killed by something really different. There were some interesting things in the facility's monster cages. But really that's just a small nitpick. Still one of my favorite movies. I'm glad you survived it, Addie (I totally forgot about the snake). ✌️🤓
