GOLDFINGER - Full Length Reaction!

Goldfinger is such a fun villain, and the name "P*ssy Galore" definitely gave me a good giggle. Bond's interaction with Q when he's explaining the gadgets is so great. Enjoy!

You're correct that "skin suffocation" is not a real thing, but at the time people THOUGHT it was a real thing. They got away with the name "Pussy Galore" -- despite the word having the same meaning then as now -- because "pussy" could also be used as a nickname/term of endearment in real life. Like how "Dick" can be a nickname for "Richard". Everybody is going to giggle if you name a character "Dick S. Huge", and they're going to know exactly what you mean, but technically speaking it could be a "real" name. Nobody was fooled here for a second, and they had to fight to get the name past censors, but there was the fig-leaf cover. Everybody is going to have their own opinions as to which Bond film is The Best, but what's not up for debate is that this one cemented the pop-culture concept of what James Bond IS. References and parodies almost always include bits from this film, and it lay down the formula which many of the later films duplicated.

2025-08-30 23:37:50 +0000 UTCIt was more blatant in the book and toned down for the 1960's movie audience, but Pussy Galore was able to resist Bond's charms because she was a lesbian (along with all of the other pilots in her "Flying Circus"). After enough exposure to Bond, she discovers that she is actually bi, not just les. She changed sides because while she was OK with using knock-out gas on the base, she was not OK with killing everyone with nerve gas and then detonating a fission bomb.
