The story of how the show came to be is also interesting: NBC holds the rights to broadcast Premier League matches in the US, and in 2013 they chose to run a series of adverts to introduce their audience to British Football by way of having an American coach become the temporary coach of a Premier League team. Sudeikis was cast, and they began creating the character of Ted Lasso. The campaign was considered successful and was quite popular and it was only a couple of years later that someone approved turning the ad campaign into an actual TV show.
