Having never played the game, I'm enjoying this show a lot more than I thought I would. I suppose people have to bend reality a little to grasp the little things like 90 pound Ellie taking down a 200+ man. Just can't happen in reality, but I digress. lol

2025-05-23 12:16:03 +0000 UTCPedro Pascal did such a phenomenal job in that scene. Just before he delivers that line, there is the obvious emotion of almost breaking. He's about to confess. But then the realization sets in. If he confesses here, now, other people will know what we know from the end of last season. The SECRET, the thing he didn't tell her: he lied to her about what happened because he not only killed everyone there, including Marlene, but possibly condemned the entire world to never having a cure. You can see, suddenly, his resolve return because he can't confess. He'd instantly become the villain and she just told him she hated him. So, he summarizes. "I saved her." (I've kept spoilerish game content and context out of this because we're talking about the show, but yes, fellow gamers I know. I know.)

Her resentment towards him isn't about teenage rebellion, she doesn't trust him like before. He would rather have her alive and mad at him rather than losing another child. I love the cast for this second season! Next week I get to watch the next episode when it's posted.
