BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE (Ultimate Edition) - Full Length Reaction!

Here's the full length reaction to Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (Ultimate Edition)! I enjoyed this one a lot! It was a great introduction to Ben Affleck as Batman, and I didn't realize how many other characters this movie introduces us to?! The last 10-15 minutes of this was a wild ride!! Enjoy!

BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE (Ultimate Edition) - Full Length Reaction!

Comments

The best explaination I've seen for the Martha scene was that Bruce was ready to kill someone he was convinced was a monster, but when he was about to cross that line, his victim was begging for the life of another. The same name made him realize he wasn't about to kill a monster, he was about to kill someone's child.

Jacob Taggart

- Now you understand the reference in "Deadpool 2" to "Both our mothers were named 'Martha'" . - The "Ha Ha Ha joke's on you" was written on Robin's suit. Joker killed Robin and taunted Batman. - The secondary tittle "Dawn of Justice" was a clue that some additional members of the Justice League would be introduced. - Watch the Extended Version of "Suicide Squad" (2016) rather than the theatrical version. - "Wonder Woman" (2017) occurs before "Justice League", but "Aquaman" (2018) occurs after "Justice League". - Watch "Zach Snyder's Justice League" instead of "Justice League". Watch mid-credits & after-credits scenes - "Birds of Prey" (2020) occurs after "Suicide Squad" (2016) but before "The Suicide Squad" (2021) - "Peacemaker" (2022, 8 episodes) occurs after "The Suicide Squad" (2021)

Looking forward to the eventual Wonder Woman reaction, that movie is terrific. 🙂 (Personally my favorite DCEU films are Wonder Woman, Shazam!, and The Suicide Squad. I could take or leave the rest of the movies but those three are top notch!)

Doug

You gotta react to ‘THE PENGUIN’ next, you won’t regret it!!!

Adam

I have it on good authority that Addie’s mother is also named Martha. Go figure đŸ€·â€â™‚ïž

Julian San

On to the two best DCU movies in Wonder Woman and Aquaman!

Joe Mallard

I'm so glad we've moved past the "Evil Superman" trope. What’s frustrating is that the DCEU never even fully explored the core concept of the character, yet they were already hinting at an Evil Superman storyline. That’s the kind of thing you bring in after a decade of building a connected universe, once you’ve established Superman as a hopeful and inspiring figure. Something even Henry wanted to explore. For me, Henry Cavill’s Superman never really gave off that hopeful, optimistic blue boycott vibe. The whole point of an "Evil Superman" is the shock of seeing this beacon of goodness and morality fall to darkness. It should feel almost unthinkable. But with Henry’s Superman, I could totally believe he’d turn evil, which kind of defeats the purpose. There's not much contrast there beyond simply wanting to see an Evil Superman because its epic and trendy thanks to Injustice (2013).

LittleGalaxyBoy

It's on Max and is technically the first DCU project, prior to Superman (2025). New episodes release every Thursday with Five episodes released so far.

LittleGalaxyBoy

I'll try and keep this short. The one scene that confused you where Batman was in the desert then got caught and evil Superman confronts/kills him is called the 'nightmare timeline' It's an alternate timeline where superman becomes evil hence all the destruction. The hole 'Snyder Verse' of DCU was about them preventing the 'nightmare timeline'. As for Doomsday, he was the response to super hero 'power creep', specifically Superman's. When a character can over come any challenge you throw at them it becomes a little stale because you know they will win. Doomsday was created in the comics to kill Superman which caught people off guard. It's for this reason every so many years the comic book universes get reset; either to refresh the characters or to reset the power creep.

MattTheHazard

I will have to check out Creatures Commando’s never watched it. Is it on HBO Max?

Joshua AKA Spider Man

I’m sure the DCU movies, shows, and games will be great. Creature Commandos is already such a blast, it’s easily one of my favorite DC shows right now. It’s an awesome start to the DCU and doing an amazing job of building and highlighting an interesting fantastical DC universe, much better than the DCEU ever did. Since we're not confined to a single tone for most of the films, also the fact we have live action and animated show allows for more room to explore this universe as well.

LittleGalaxyBoy

Great reaction love this movie. Hope you watch the other DC movies and the Justice league. Honestly I think DC makes better shows and Marvel makes better movies. If you ever get a chance Addie you should watch the Flash show. The show is way better than the movie. I think DC movies will be better now since James Gunn is a comic nerd like us fans are and is the CEO of DCU now.

Joshua AKA Spider Man

Fun fact: Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor in the DCEU is actually Lex Luthor Jr., the son of Alexander Joseph “Lex” Luthor, the primary Lex Luthor from the comics who founded LexCorp and clashed with Superman. In the DCEU, Alexander Joseph “Lex” Luthor Sr. was born in East Germany, immigrated to America, and became the founder of LexCorp. He was likely more aligned with the classic depiction of Lex Luthor from the comics. So I guess this explains why Jesse Eisenberg’s portrayal of Lex Luthor felt drastically different from fan expectations, why many fans, myself included, weren’t impressed with his interpretation. The live-action films have yet to truly do the character justice, but I'm optimistic that Nicholas Hoult will nail the role in Superman (2025).

This version is so much better than the theatrical. It really shows how deep Luthor was in manipulating things from the very start. Both Bruce and Clark were just being moved around like pieces on a game board by him. I wish some portrayals were done a bit differently, but I genuinely do like this version of the movie.

Terrafan

Well said man. I’m here for the Snyder cut all day. It’s legit.

Cameron Kerby

She will. See what I did there? â˜ș

Cameron Kerby

Great reaction! Now onto Wonder Woman (2017), and then ZACK SNYDER's Justice League! (aka The Snyder Cut)

David Crabtree

No problem, bro. As a major Comics fan in general, I never really see DC as being darker overall. Don’t take me too seriously in these comments. Like what you like, my guy. Don’t let anyone tell you differently. I just like to yap about comics lol

LittleGalaxyBoy

That’s the only part of the film I watch from time to time. Besides Batman killing and his whole anti-Superman agenda, I actually like Batfleck. I just wish he had been in better films or, at the very least, got his own solo movie with Robin. It would’ve been interesting to see that dynamic explored with what we know from this film.

LittleGalaxyBoy

Not unless the Black Lantern Corps shows up.

Gotham location: Gotham is usually placed in New Jersey, right by the Great Bay just north of Atlantic City. Online it seems like most sources place Gotham in New Jersey, 1981’s Detective Comics #503 specified that the city was twenty miles south of the Jersey Shore which would put it within this range. Gotham already has a sister city called BlĂŒdhaven, located across from Gotham. Hub City, the birthplace of The Question, is actually closer to Chicago, located near East St. Louis, Illinois. Similarly, Midway City is also based on Chicago and is likely located nearby as well. Both cities have that gritty, urban industrial vibe of the Midwest. Metropolis: Metropolis is usually placed near Delaware Bay, south west of Gotham. But in Smallville (2001–2011), they took some creative liberties and placed Metropolis in Kansas. There's a memorable scene where Clark and Lana stand on top of a water tower, looking out at the city in the distance. Metropolis was so close to Smallville that you could drive to the city, do your shopping, and get back to Smallville in a few hours. Originally, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the creators of Superman, based Metropolis on their hometown of Cleveland. James Gunn paid a great homage to the creators by using Cleveland as a filming location for Superman (2025) over the summer but I'm pretty sure Metropolis will still be on the East Coast for this new DC universe. By the 80s, there were enough sources pointing to Metropolis being in New York State. So now, it’s kind of a toss-up between Delaware and New York for where Metropolis actually is. City Coordinates: Gotham Location - 39.524193, -74.383362 Metropolis Location - 39.2578847639042, -75.44397142533087

You should hop back and check out "Superman Returns" with Brandon Routh.

Joe Blankenship

Addie, dont kid yourself. Superman is actually DEAD dead. He is not alive by any capacity. This isnt a joke either. You are literally getting all excited in the end for nothing. Its not like hes just going to pop out of the grave like some zombie later on.

Thats MR. Baldamort

Happy Thursday, Addie! I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas yesterday. 😊 I've been looking forward to this one. Glad that it's the 'Ultimate Edition' that you watched. This is one of my favorite of the DCEU movies. We've got the introductions of Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. And we've got the return of Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman. I do hope that you watch at least the first "Wonder Woman" movie since this movie was her introduction. Getting ready to watch this reaction here shortly after a busy day. Have a great evening! 😊

Randee Carreno

Planning on the Snyder Cut for that one! Not ready for a four hour movie though haha

Addie Counts

Okay that's what I was thinking before this one!

Addie Counts

"your mom name Martha too? Besties!"

Joe Blankenship

Addie, the actor Jeffery Dean Morgan, who played Dr. Thomas Wayne is the same actor who played The Comedian in 'Watchmen'. Funny fact, actress Lauren Cohan (Martha Wayne) is famous for her role as Maggie in 'The Walking Dead' which she also co-stars with Jeffery Dean Morgan.

Kyle Brandon Sanger

Gotham and Metropolis are not normally that close. Metropolis is NYC and Gotham is Chicago.

Connor Ellis

Does Addie know when it comes time to watch the Justice League, she needs to watch the 4hour long Snyder Cut version?

Hok'Tar

Just a daily reminder that Zack Snyder and James Gunn are actually good friends, so it’s pretty silly for people to argue over whose films are the “better” depiction of the DC universe. Though we're free to share our thoughts of course on the movie. I may not be the biggest fan of Snyder's take on these characters, but it’s really silly to get worked up about it. Let people enjoy these films with no bias towards a certain director. I'm sure Addie will enjoy all of these films, regardless of directors.

LittleGalaxyBoy

I can see your point LittleGalaxyBoy, both Marvel and DC had their dark turns in the comics, as well as the decades. My biggest problem is that, in my opinion, there was nothing wrong with WB going the more darker route with their line of films and vision. However, all they could see were dollar signs and try to copy the MCU at their best and worse. I do agree with you that both companies weren't so different in terms of bouncing off of each other and ideas and characters. However, it terms of films, a good portion of the general movie going audience aren't hardcore comic book and sometimes, they take what they see on screen as the gospel truth. Debating is a funny thing, but in the nerdspace, its normal, thank you for the reply.

Kyle Brandon Sanger

The problem with using these Elseworld-style stories that rework the characters and lore is that for a lot of people, this is their first introduction to Superman and Batman meeting, or even to Batman or Superman as characters. They’ll take these versions and the overall tone as “true” to the source material, assuming this is how they’re supposed to act in the comics and how DC is meant to look and feel, which is why so many people think DC is dark by default. I knew someone whose first introduction to Superman was through Injustice. She straight-up hated Superman because she thought that’s just what he was like in all media. It wasn’t until she saw more mainline DC stories that actually reflected the character that her opinion changed. This kind of thing really impacts how people see these characters, especially Superman. We’ve been stuck with the “Dark & gritty Superman” trope for so long that people are now celebrating the return to a more traditional Superman. It’s wild when you think about it, being excited that media is finally showing Superman how he’s actually meant to be.

LittleGalaxyBoy

You remind me of Amy Adams but waaaaay prettier!

Jayson Phillips

That fight scene was great. I play with the Batfleck skin in Arkham Knight and rack up the combos, haha.

Steve

I have a weird relationship with this movie as I saw it opening day during an ice storm. And during the movie it would shut off the power to the theater throughout the movie. Until finally it shut off during the last act, and we had to leave the theater. Needless to say I was sad as I was enjoying it up until then. Also I always treated these Zack Snyder films as Elseworld stories, so there's that.

Steve

@aarswft or you can just let people enjoy the movies they want without getting all butt hurt. Its not rocket science. Such toddler mentality :)

Thats MR. Baldamort

Love this movie and im excited for you to get to Justice league snyder cut! Seems like people who dont like snyder really are trying to convince addie to hate it too. Seriously the most annoying people. Just as bad as star wars haters. Let her and other people enjoy movies they want. Reminder: You dont have to watch a movie you dont like. Let the rest of us enjoy them though, its just a movie, its not that serious. As Addie said in her intro over 80% of people wanted her to watch this version of the film so clearly people enjoy this movie :)

Thats MR. Baldamort

"DC is a lot more darker" I'll argue that DC and Marvel aren't that different at all when it comes to who's darker. Most of the same people who worked at DC, also worked at Marvel as well, including writers and artists. Whenever DC was in their Silver Age, the age of Marvel began, with The Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, The X-Men, Hulk etc. Dealing with everything from addiction to suicide, depression, racism etc. By the 1970s to 1980s both Marvel and DC got equally dark. X-Men Marvel's biggest IP at the time along with Spider-Man was dealing with complex issues. In the same decade Batman was at his darkest as well, post Adam West show. The ONLY reason people think DC is darker than Marvel is because of the films. Dark Knight created a trend of grounded, gritty Superhero films, which DC continued with moving into Man of Steel, basically creating a whole DC universe around this idea of being darker and gritty. But the comics, along with animation are on the same level as Marvel's stuff. Both Marvel and DC have dark and light stories, both even had there own mature imprints aimed at adults for their more extreme characters and stories.

LittleGalaxyBoy

One of the few movies I turned off before it was over. I’m glad you enjoyed it though.

Comics that inspired this film: This film draws heavily from The Dark Knight Returns (1986), an Elseworlds story where an older 55 year old Batman returns from retirement after the death of Robin a decade prior. Later in the story, Batman fights Superman, portrayed as a government pawn who fights communists on behalf of the American government... Frank Miller's take on Superman is not my favorite. Key elements like the armored Batsuit and the design of Batman's costume are inspired by this comic. However, it’s worth noting that Batman in The Dark Knight Returns explicitly does not kill. Snyder seems to overlook this, despite citing the comic as evidence of a murderous Batman. The film also takes inspiration from The Death of Superman (1992), where Superman dies fighting Doomsday. Snyder clarified that this version isn’t the "real" Doomsday, though. Additionally, the apocalyptic visions of an evil Superman borrow from Injustice (2013), an Elseworlds universe where Superman turns evil and forms a One Earth Government under his control. Including an army of Nazi-inspired soldiers loyal to Superman. Makes you wonder how Superman's Jewish creators, Siegel and Shuster, would feel about that. Overall, this film for me ends up being a messy mash-up of iconic story-lines that don’t blend well, made worse by the clunky introduction of Justice League members through uninspired CCTV footage. It feels like a rushed attempt to catch up to Marvel's MCU, using Man of Steel as the foundation, a film that already presented a very different take on the DC Universe and Superman as a character. Wasn't an ideal start to a connected universe. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Why so dark? A big issue with Snyder’s DC films is the overly dark tone, which just doesn’t suit Superman. He’s supposed to be a beacon of hope, a clear contrast to Batman’s grittier nature. Instead, Snyder applies Batman’s tone across the entire universe, leaving Superman feeling indistinct both visually and tonally. There’s nothing wrong with exploring a darker take on Superman, but there needs to be a balance. Snyder was building toward that evolution into the hopeful, inspirational, and colorful Superman we know and love, but since the DCEU ended a few years ago, we never got to see it fully play out. Now, contrast the teaser for Superman (2025) with the teaser for The Batman (2022) , this is how Superman and Batman should complement each other. Similarly, Metropolis and Gotham should reflect their respective heroes. Metropolis is meant to be a retro-futuristic, Art Deco city of optimism, while Gotham is dark, Gothic, and brooding. In Snyder’s films, both cities are reduced to generic, gray landscapes, losing this essential contrast. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Batman Meeting Superman: This film offers one of the weakest portrayals of Batman and Superman’s first meeting, at least in my opinion. It's respectable for creating the false perception that Batman hates Superman, which isn’t true at all in the comics. The World’s Finest arc in Superman: The Animated Series does a much better job depicting their first meeting. It showcases their differences while building mutual respect, which eventually grows into one of the strongest friendships in DC lore. I just can’t get behind Batman’s first meeting with Superman being a fight where Batman’s actually trying to kill him. Something like that needs serious build-up, like Marvel’s Civil War. Imagine if Marvel’s second MCU film was Civil War and they used it to introduce Captain America too, it wouldn’t have hit nearly as hard as the movie we got. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Wasted Potential of Key Characters: The film wastes several iconic characters. Jimmy Olsen, one of Clark's best friends, is killed off by getting shoot in the head. This whole decision undermines the Daily Planet’s dynamic and removes an important part of Superman’s story which never gets any focus in these films. Feels like a slap in the face for fans of the Daily Planet and it's roster of important characters. Mercy Graves, Lex Luthor’s formidable bodyguard, is similarly wasted, killed in a bombing. She's extremely important in the Animated Series, though being honest this film in general doesnt do the Lex Luthor stuff much justice anyways. Dick Grayson (Robin) is revealed to have been killed before the events of the film. This just removes a wealth of storytelling potential. Seeing Batman and Robin’s partnership before this tragedy would’ve made it far more impactful but instead he's killed off screen, along with all of the character development of this version of Batman. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rushing Superman’s Death: Killing Superman in only his second film felt far too rushed. In the comics, this moment carried weight because readers had years to connect with Superman and see how his loss affected the Justice League and the world. Here, it feels hollow since there was little time to invest in this version of the character or his relationships. I felt zero attachment to this Superman, which sucks since I love Superman :( But I'm glad you enjoyed this film. I personally just can't get behind this film, weakest movie in the whole DCEU for me. Justice League (2021) is thankfully much better but VERY long.

LittleGalaxyBoy

The difference between the Batman movies are: In “The BATMAN” (2022) Bruce Wayne has the least experience, being Batman for only 2 years. In the Christopher Nolan Batman Trilogy, Bruce was Batman for a total of 8 years. The DCEU Batman, Bruce is a bit older, being Batman for 20 years. I liked Affleck’s Batman. People can like or dislike this movie but I still say it has THE best Batman fight scene ever shot. That's the scene when Bruce rescues Clark’s mom.

Mr. Writhms

I’m not a DC fan really, I like a few things though. However, I can’t wait for you to get through this part of DC and catch up to The Penguin. That show was incredible. The trailer I saw for the new Superman looked great too.

Ray H

If you want to see the "real" Batman/Superman meeting you must watch the "World's Finest" episodes of the animated series(es).

Tom W.

Nice! Not much more waiting before I watch 4 glorious hours of Justice League with Addie! â˜ș

Patrick Blondin

It's easier to enjoy this nonsense now that the DCEU is dead. Zack Snyder can't hurt us anymore. We watch these films like the Star Wars holiday special that they were.

aarswft

You can just say you don't understand these characters. You don't have to make a grand argument for R rated Batman. This movie is trash, these characters aren't even shadows of the characters they are attempted to be. Best thing this franchise ever did was die.

aarswft

Ben Affleck got a little intimidated by Henry's physique and decided to put in the work in the gym. 'BvS' is the biggest he's ever gotten, and his training regime made him despise working out. Also, the Ben Affleck Batman is heavily based upon the Frank Miller Dark Knight Returns version of the character. Where he's old and very angry, the armored suit is ripped straight out of the comics. The next film in the 'timeline' is 'Wonder Woman', then 'ZS Justice League'.

Kyle Brandon Sanger

I will defend this film to my dying day. DC and Marvel are different. DC is a lot more darker, its characters, its stories, its themes. I think the MCU made the movie going audience a bit too comfortable and that's why they rejected the DCEU. Unfortunately, WB at the time, were spineless, and were reactionary and changed course too many times when the going got 'tough'. 'BvS' is a brilliant film, although not without its flaws. The R-rated, 3 hour cut was the way to go. My biggest gripe with the film since its release is the portrayal of Lex Luthor. Jesse Eisenberg was miscast and the role was horribly written.

Kyle Brandon Sanger

I remember disliking this but I should rewatch it. I have only seen it once. My favorite DCEU movie is Birds of Prey (2020). Its basically Harley Quinn movie.

Marko T.

And in case you're wondering why the aspect ratio is different for some scenes in the movie, then those scenes were shot with 15-perf/70mm IMAX film cameras. Sir Christopher Nolan, who was executive producer of this movie and Man of Steel (2013), used them to shoot sequences in The Dark Knight (2008), The Dark Knight Rises (2012), Interstellar (2014), Dunkirk (2017), Tenet (2020) and Oppenheimer (2023). He's going to use a next generation of IMAX film cameras on his upcoming film The Odyssey (2026) with Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron.

Alex Tan

Happy Thursday, Addie. I'm so glad that you enjoyed the R-Rated Ultimate Edition of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). This and Man of Steel (2013) are on my watchlist. BTW, that "other character" is Cyborg. And in an unrelated note, today's my six-year anniversary with my girlfriend. She & I are seeing Nosferatu (2024) tonight. I would love to see you watch that movie next Halloween. #Nosferatu2024ForAddieCounts
