THE KARATE KID - Full Length Reaction!

What you didn't pick up, when he was distraught about the death of his wife and those memories and Daniel helped him to bed. That medal that Daniel spoke the words valor. Well that was the Medal of Honor, the highest award given for above and beyond courage in battle, in the face of the enemy. https://valor.defense.gov/description-of-awards/ . Which also demonstrates Mr. Miyagi’s courage and strength of character. You also missed that his wife and child died in an internment camp. It is one of the most disgraceful chapters in American History. While her husband and the father of their child was fighting for America, his wife was placed in basically a prison just because of her ethnicity " https://www.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/japanese-american-incarceration-during-ww2/asian-americans-video/ . While while these were just characters in a great movie, the horror of those camps were real!

If this flick gets you choked up, part 3 will make you cry on camera. And I mean cuh-ry. I don't think you have the guts to do that in front of us.

Philip Davetas

Not to mention John G. Avildsen directed the first - and one or two subsequent - outings of both franchises.

Byrd N. Hand

Speaking of Elizabeth Shue, who also plays Jennifer Parker in Back to the Future Parts 2 & 3, I also suggest Hollow Man (2000), also with Kevin Bacon and Josh Brolin, for Halloween. #HollowManForAddieCounts https://youtu.be/PksGHTBW1uE?feature=shared

Hopefully you'll watch the 2 sequels as well sometime in the near future, they are just as good especially the 2nd movie.

It's kind of fun seeing a really young Elisabeth Shue as Ali after also watching her as Madeline Stillwell on The Boys in recent years. 🙂 Also I do like at the very end that you can see Johnny becoming really disillusioned with his teacher, and finally when Daniel beats him he makes a point to give the trophy to Daniel himself and congratulates him on the match. Because as terrible as Johnny is in the film, it's always nice to see a bit of a redemption arc and it underscores that he's also sort of a victim of the real villain, his sensei. Overall I like this original Karate Kid, especially the scenes where Mr. Miyagi opens up about his past and later you can tell he's taken Daniel in as kind of a son he never had. I don't remember the sequels being as good unfortunately, but this one holds up. 👍 P.S. I still haven't seen Cobra Kai but I've only ever heard really good things about the first few seasons at least.

Doug

I hope you end up watching all of these, even 4, and eventually Cobra Kai.

It would have been funny if you started by watching the first 5 or so minutes of the 2010 Karate Kid as a gag. Folks woulda flipped out! For more Elisabeth Shue, I'd recommend Adventures in Babysitting (1987) for something light-hearted, and Leaving Las Vegas (1995) for something that is definitely not light-hearted.

Luis Fernandez

Please, please, watch the KK2!

Billy Dancel

Glad you finally watched this, you’ll have to do parts 2 & 3 when you get the chance.

Wax on. Wax off. Love it

Funny thing about this flick. In its day it was often compared to ROCKY. So many songs like "You're the Best" and "Glory of Love" was written for the ROCKY movies, but Stallone rejected them and THE KARATE KID added them to its soundtracks. Also, there's a funny video essay on YoutTube describing that Daniel is the real bully of the film because he's the one who initiated everything. And it's true. It makes more sense today than in 1984, because every teenager was an asshole to each other back then. Also, there's a video directed by William Zabka called "Sweep the Leg" by No More Kings which I think inspired COBRA KAI.

Philip Davetas

Daniel and Ali's first date always hits me hard, because my ex-wife and I went to Golf 'n' Stuff on our first date, and had a great time that night.

I love this movie and all the sequels. I even enjoy The Next Karate Kid, but it is not necessary for the Cobra Kai series, if you decide to watch that, and I am sure everyone hopes you will. I do not care for the remake/reboots though. They were watchable, but just did not have the same heart.

Wax on, wax off.

Hello Addie!!! I hope so much that you will continue the franchise, Cobra Kai tv show included! I love so much these stories and this francise!!!

Carlo Glingani

I think you should see all 3 films! they are all good watches :)

Thats MR. Baldamort

Will do, Randee. In fact, this is another show that my girlfriend recommended to me.

Once Addie gets through Parts 2 and 3(pretty positive that she'll watch them) you need to be sure to watch the "Cobra Kai" Netflix follow-up series if she doesn't get to it right away. It's the perfect "sequel" to the third movie.

Randee Carreno

At 60 years old, sometimes I feel so much like "that old guy": it's difficult for me to comprehend how someone could know the 2010 remake but not the 1984 original! 😵

Happy Monday, Addie! I hope that you had a great weekend. 😊 YAY!!! It's here! I've been waiting for you to see this movie for soooooo long. LOL! RIP always to Pat Morita(Mr. Miyagi)! I kid you not, I'm actually watching this movie on cable tv right now. LOL! Yeah, Mr. Miyagi is the absolute BEST in all three movies. This movie has one of my all-time favorite movie soundtracks. Fun Fact: Ralph Macchio(Daniel) got to keep the yellow car from this movie. And he still has it. See you soon for the great sequel "The Karate Kid Part 2". And for more Ralph Macchio I still very highly recommend the 1983 "The Outsiders". And for more Elisabeth Shue(who plays Ali), I very highly recommend the 1987 "Adventures in Babysitting"(such a fun movie). I'll probably be watching this reaction alot. Have a great day today! 😊

Happy Monday, Addie. Let The Karate Kid journey begin. This is one film series that I have to get into, since a new Karate Kid (2025) is coming out next year and because I've only seen The Karate Kid (2010) with Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.

Alex Tan

Time to remind myself what Daniel-san was like as a boy! Really hope you continue with this to see parts 2 and 3, that way you can really understand the Cobra Kai TV show!
