THE PATRIOT - Full Length Reaction!

Here's the full length reaction to the Theatrical Release of The Patriot! This movie surprised me! I was expecting the movie to be very heavy the whole time (don't get me wrong, it DEFINITELY has so many heartbreaking moments), but I was surprised with the amount of lighthearted and tender moments as well! Enjoy!

HAHA I'd watch it!!

Addie Counts

Even though Roland Emmerich is known for his large-scale popcorn movies like Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow, I'm particularly fond of The Patriot. I was surprised when I double-checked the runtime, because it definitely doesn't feel like 2h45m.

Good movie. 👍 Although on a tangent after Addie's intro all I could think of was that now I kind of wish there was a Mel Brook's version. 😄

So, of all the Roland Emmerich movies out there, this is probably my favorite one, due in no small part to its rather gritty portrayal of war (that first action sequence where Benjamin and his two young sons kill the British officers to free his other son is both brutal and fantastic), and Mel Gibson's empassioned performance--in spite of his troubling, shall we say, existence in the real world. I have a hard time stomaching some of the whitewashing bull@#!%, as well A pre-revolutionary colonist and plantation owner from South Carolina who freed all of his slaves? Okay. Sure. And the rather happy ending where we all go to build a house feels a little syrupy to me. But, I guess that's Hollywood for you. The bit about Benjamin and Fort Wilderness is a nice touch, on the other hand, really showcasing the horrors of war. And I give the movie props for taking some actual risks by, eh...offing some of the more likable characters in a very unlikable manner. All in all, not a bad one, and even quite watchable. Anyway...that's my ramble.

American Braveheart!!!

The Patriot is good, its widely remembered for its infamous decapitation sequence. However, regardless of the many inaccuracies, my biggest problem with the film is how the flintlocks and muskets are hilariously accurate when they weren't. Its really bad.

I think the biggest differnxe in the extended version, is It shows Thomas's burial. So you didn't miss much. Excited to watch this film! I want to put in a request for in my opinion Mel Gibson best movie and that is "We Were Soldiers" a true story about the first conflict involving the U.S and Vietnam, based on a book "We Were Soldiers Once"

Addie is definitely going to have a lot of fun with A Knight's Tale (2001). #AKnightsTaleForAddieCounts I'm also throwing in the original Mad Max trilogy with Mel Gibson as well. #MadMaxTrilogyForAddieCounts

Happy Wednesday, Addie! 😊 RIP always to Heath Ledger!!!! This is one of my favorite Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger films. And I keep forgetting that Joely Richardson is in this one as well. Definitely looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. For another great Mel Gibson movie I very highly recommend the 1994 movie "Maverick". For more great Heath Ledger, I very highly recommend the 2005 "The Brothers Grimm", "Brokeback Mountain"(2005), and "A Knights Tale"(2001). Have a great day today! 😊

Theatrical Cut. Addie is watching the theatrical cut. Even Cassie & Carly from PiB watched that cut too.

Happy Wednesday, Addie. I'm so glad that you enjoyed the theatrical cut of The Patriot (2000). This is also my all-time favorite Mel Gibson movie alongside Braveheart (1995). I even own the 2007 Extended Cut of the movie on Blu-ray. Thomas & Gabriel's deaths and the burnings of the Martin family's house and the church with Gabriel's wife, Anne, and her fellow townsfolk were the real heartbreaking moments of the movie. Colonel Tavington really deserves a "How dare you!" comment for both of those burnings, the deaths for both of Benjamin's sons, and for calling Thomas (the second son) a "stupid boy", after he shot him. BTW, I can still eat dinner while watching this movie, if it were to play on TV at a restaurant that I'm eating at with my girlfriend. And John Williams' film score for this movie is so epic, it reminds me of the music for the Steven Spielberg movies he did as well.

I'm guessing this is the ~2h45m theatrical cut instead of the 2h55m extended cut? I have both versions, just want to know which one to sync the reaction with :)
