GOODFELLAS - Full Length Reaction!

Here's the full length reaction to GoodFellas! Whew, this movie was shocking from start to finish! There wasn't a single good fella in this movie hahaha. I've been wanting to watch this since I watched The Wolf of Wall Street and The Departed, and it did not disappoint! Enjoy!

GOODFELLAS - Full Length Reaction!

Better that than to call Goodfellas a Prequel. My mind might implode at that one.

Given that it came out a few months prior to "GoodFellas" (if I recall correctly), can it really be considered a 'sequel'?

Byrd N. Hand

Don't forget to watch the sequel! "My Blue Heaven," starring Steve Martin and Rick Moranis! Okay, calling it a 'sequel' is a bit of a joke, but not by much. It's based on the life of Henry Hill AFTER he was arrested and went into witness protection. It was written by Nora Ephron, who was married to Nicholas Pileggi, the author of the book that "Goodfellas" was based on and the co-writer of the screenplay. They did their research on Hill's life together in the same interview sessions.

Excellent movie. “Jimmy was the kind of guy who rooted for the bad guy in movies.” The movie is little much for me by the end (especially as I get older) but that's not a criticism of the movie. The witness protection program was a bit of relief at the end. The movie is No. 9 on my list of best/favorite movies all time. “Jimmy and I could never be made because we had Irish blood, didn’t even matter that my Mother was Sicilian.”

The epilog card that mentions Paulie died in prison at 73 is ironic because when Paulie pulls Henry aside earlier in the movie and warns him not to deal drugs he says that he "doesn't want to end up like Gribbs who's 70 years old and dying in prison." Paulie called out exactly what would happen if Henry dealt drugs with Jimmy and Tommy.

Rocky! Rocky! Rocky!

A great follow-up to this is GET SHORTY. It's kinda like a goodfella decides he'd rather get into the movie biz instead. Anyway, it's a fun movie starring John Travolta (just after Pulp Fiction made him big again), Renee Russo, Gene Hackman, and Danny DeVito, from the director of Men In Black.

Scorsese 🙌

These kind of movies are always so well done, but I have to keep reminding myself that these are not good people despite all the scenes that depict their lives as good family people.

I'm coming at you. Come on... Let's go get a cup of coffee and a danish. 😝

I second Casino (1995). It's my all-time favorite Martin Scorsese movie and I would love to see Addie watch it soon. #CasinoForAddieCounts

Addie, since you were very impressed by this movie, you're going to want to see Scorsese's "Casino" (1995). It is another mob movie based on true story-- about Las Vegas in the early days. It also stars Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci, with yet another great movie soundtrack—something like 30 classic songs.

I've probably spoken my peace about this film enough around here, so I won't rehash anything. Honestly, I think I prefer "Godfather III" over this film (yeah, come at me 😛). I know Scorsese has a reputation for making very gritty films, but he also has a softer side, if you check out stuff like "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore," "The Age of Innocence," or "Hugo," to name a few. Even so, "Taxi Driver" should be your next Scorsese priority now.

This one’s amazing, please please at some point watch Scarface. Literally goes along well with these movies (goodfellas, godfather)

Ernesto Lopez

Addie, for the record, I would never rat on you. The Godfather and Goodfellas. Now you just need to watch Scarface (1983) and you’ll complete the trifecta.

Happy Friday, Addie! 😊 So happy that you got to watch this one. This is one of my top favorite Joe Pesci, Ray Liotta(RIP always), and Robert De Niro films. Definitely looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Another fantastic Joe Pesci movie that I very highly recommend is the 1992 "My Cousin Vinny". Have a great day today & a great weekend! 😊

*UPDATED* I still suggest ALL of the movies that Martin Scorsese directed (including Who's That Knocking at My Door (1967), Boxcar Bertha (1972), Mean Streets (1973), Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974), Taxi Driver (1976), New York, New York (1977), Raging Bull (1980), The King of Comedy (1983), After Hours (1985), The Color of Money (1986), The Last Temptation of Christ (1988), Cape Fear (1991), The Age of Innocence (1993), Casino (1995), Kundun (1997), Bringing Out the Dead (1999), Gangs of New York (2002), The Aviator (2004), Shutter Island (2010), Hugo (2011), Silence (2016), The Irishman (2019), and Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)). #MoreMartinScorseseForAddieCounts
