X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE - Full Length Reaction!

Here's the full length reaction to X-Men Origins: Wolverine! I've heard some negative things about this movie (the dialogue isn't greaaaat), but I'm glad I watched it because it seems to set up a lot for the X-Men future! Enjoy!

I'll go ahead and mention that I accidentally called Scott "Steve" for the entire movie... The name didn't sound completely right in my head (I definitely know his name is Scott!!), but I guess he just seemed like a Steve to me in this movie?? I guess enjoy this reaction where I accidentally call one of the main X-Men by the wrong name even though I've already seen him in three X-Men films and called him Scott tons of times? Enjoyyyy??? (And don't hate me!!!)

X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE - Full Length Reaction!

Comments

The Weapon 11 in the Wolverine movie was only deadpool in name. The character was an ill-conceived version of a much better character and in all .. According to Quara

Jay Perry

... as well as "Quantum of Solace," the next James Bond movie? (It's the only thing she's reacting to right now that interests me... though I'll still check out her "Schindler's List" YT edit.)

Wait. X-Men Origins: Wolverine is NOT on Disney+??? I paid actual, real money to see that “movie” in a theater in 2009! Haven’t I suffered enough?!? My Disney/Fox overlords? 😉

So everyone has already explained the true Origins in the comics and the many valid critiques of the movie 😅 And as far as Logans' healing and powers in general.... yeah, he's very animalistic in his instincts, as you've seen 😆 His healing is one of the most notable in Marvel. He's survived nearly anything. And in the comics, ooh boy. He's been reduced to a single cell, and regenerated. Like, painfully and slowly regenerated, one body system at a time. Nerves, skeletal, muscular, organs, and finally skin. They of course have to make him weaker in the movies. So his soft spot is the brain, so decapitation or completely destroying his brain would kill him, cause there would be nothing left to heal. But yeah either way, he's practically immortal, as it's damn near impossible to penetrate his Adamantium coated skull in the first place. Wolverine is one tough cookie, but man does he have it rough, physically, emotionally, mentally, the man just doesn't ever win. And if he does, it's not without a lot of pain. But yeah in terms of the timeline of the X-Men movies.... this is the movie that messes everything up. So take this movie as an explanation of Logan becoming Wolverine, but in terms of the events like the forming of the X-Men with Charles finding Scott and them, plus the "Deadpool" in this movie..... take all of that with a grain of salt. Don't acknowledge this when watching future movies because there's too many inconsistencies. So scrap this movie except when thinking about Logan. He's.... lived a long, long, long life. And has suffered more than even he knows, and he won't ever remember it. But this Deadpool became very widely famous for being bad and was hated a lot lol. Just keep in mind Logans past, and remember how sad his present also is. Lost Jean, lost Charles, lost Scott.... he just keeps suffering. Still, I'm happy you watched this movie, despite its issues, Addie! Can't wait for First Class!

In your outro, you said, "I didn't know anything about Deadpool..." and it is safe to say that you still don't. You have some idea about the Wade Wilson pre-Deadpool character - military, mercenary, smart-ass. But that's about it. Sloppy movie-making (bad compositing, bad CG and bad dialog) aside, the main reason Marvel fans disliked this movie was the "Deadpool" character. As has already been mentioned, the abomination they created for the movie is not Deadpool. The creating-him-by-combining-stolen-powers is completely made up for this movie. That wasn't any version of Deadpool to ever appear in the comics. They took a great character and gave us... that thing. I'm looking forward to you getting to see the Deadpool movies, where we get a nigh perfect version. Especially since you've gone to the effort of watching the X-Men movies, so should get a lot more out of them than the average reactor who watches them without any X-Men movie lore under their belt.

Thomas Yanez

I find it easy to dislike a film that takes a great character and turns it into this movie's version of Deadpool.

This was one of my favorite X-Men films growing up, is it perfect? Nope, but I enjoy because of Wolverine. I find it hard to hate a film with my favorite characters in it.

DazzMetalStorm

pst - she has already seen it or the reaction wouldn't be available...

Heyyy it’s Billy and here are my thoughts. To the other subscribers, Addie does hope you all join in the fun and start your comments “Heyy it’s …..” I’m not trying to make fun of her. I first got introduced to the X-Men stories through my friend in College. His middle name is actually Storm. Wolverine was my initial favorite because I’m a fan of the University of Michigan Wolverines. 💙💛 The dialogue never bothered me, it was the CGI stunts that they tried to copy and paste out of a comic book. Zero’s leap into the Helicopter… Logan chopping down the ladder… and the decaffeinated, um, the decapitated head of Deadpool. There are many movie franchises that have a movie in the “collection” that some people don’t like/don’t recommend. I’m happy you still watched this so you can at least check it off the list and not ignore it. Victor/Sabretooth… The very first X-Men movie dressed him character wise. This one shows his viciousness. Imagine both combined together AND have an equal version of Wolverine and you get some epic head to head battles!! You have seen the Adamantium fusion process and how painful it was. In one of the most brutal battles of X-Men history, Wolverine nearly defeats Magneto. Magneto counters by tearing the adamantium out of his body. I look forward to what you have next. Very happy to see your co-star, Ollie!! Take care, Addie!!

My name happens to be Scott, and I had to laugh at your calling Scott "Steve". I have been mislabeled as Steve so many times in my life, it is just too funny. When I was a kid, I wanted to change my name to Steve, just because so many people called me that anyway. Any other Scotts experience this?

TheGuy

I think its best to not tell Addie about a movie being bad beforehand , it could ruin her enjoyment in the reaction.

DazzMetalStorm

Lol "Steve". Also, going forward, just treat every group of films as happening in a different timeline/universe. Its the only way any of this works.

aarswft

Love this movie flaws and all. I guess you could classify this as a bad movie but a good-bad movie. This movie will make the Deadpool movie that much better

Mike Turp

The negative reviews are spot on though - this is a waste of a movie and as much as I love Addie's reactions I won't be watching this one.

The Dingo

Glad you watched it, there’s no reason to skip it despite the negative reviews. Don’t be too excited about it setting up the future though. The X-Men franchise isn’t as well crafted and planned like the MCU is. There will be lots of retcons and inconsistencies. As you watch them, an important thing to remember is to forget everything you know haha

Logan Origin: So James Howlet is actually Logan given name. This is all from the comic's so not 100% accurate to the movie rendition. James was born to wealthy John and Elizabeth Howlett in Alberta, Canada, during the last years of the 19th century. James’s mutant abilities were triggered when his father was shot by the Howlett groundskeeper Thomas Logan, whom he did not know was his real father. James killed Logan, slashed the face of Logan’s son and his friend Dog, and left Alberta with a childhood friend, Rose O’Hara. His healing abilities drove trauma from his memories, leaving him partially amnesiac. He and Rose found refuge at a British Columbia stone quarry, where Rose, claiming James was her cousin, gave his name as “Logan.” Within months, Logan’s powers were heightening due to the environment around him. He became healthier and gained senses to rival those of an animal, but also became more violent. To divert some of this pent-up rage, Logan partook in cage fights where his prowess earned him the nickname “Wolverine.” After accidentally killing Rose with his claws, Logan retreated into the woods where he lived as a feral beast, losing all of his former memories. He would later travel the world, partaking in every major conflict of the 20th century (WWI, WWII, the Spanish Civil War, the Vietnam War) as a soldier, criminal, or mercenary for hire. While on the run from the law, he was abducted by the Canadian super soldier program (Similar to the American program that created Captain America) known as “Weapon X.” He had previously been a willing participant in the program in the early 1960s as an international operative of Team X. In the Comic's Logan didn't join the X-Men until the 1970s so alot of this happened in the 1960s while this movie version takes place mostly in 1981 20 years before the first X-Men movie. Films Production and Story Problems: The film was pretty much being written while they were filming so there was so many changes whole thing was a mess. His CGI claws also look so bad the first movies claws from 9 years before Origins looked better. Alot of people disliked this film, regarded as the worst X-Men film with the only good thing coming out of the film being the tie in game that's loosely based around the film having a mix of stuff from the film but also stuff left over from when the developers were making an original story with zero connections to the movie. They were later told to based it on the film so there's parts that did not happen in the film. Pretty much the game is jokingly stated as being better than the movie. Deadpool was also something fans hated about the movie as he simply wasn't Deadpool. His time working beside Logan was pretty okay, Deadpool is known to talk ALOT more than Spider-Man but the fact they closed his mouth and made him into a generic villain did not work at all. Thankfully we got the Deadpool movies so that made up for everything. Sabretooth Comparison: On the topic of Sabretooth there's zero family connection between Victor and Logan in the comic's with him being the brother of Logan being solely for this film and I guess the Fox X-Men universe. Sabretooth didn't start out as a villain for Wolverine he originally was an Iron Fist villain first appearing in Iron Fist #14 (August 1977) wasn't until Uncanny X-MEN # 212 -213 (June, 1986 - July, 1986) that wolverine would fight Sabretooth for the first time. This is kind of similar to how Wolverine was introduced in The Incredible Hulk no. 181 (1974) going up against the Hulk who crossed into Canada. Like the movie's it's pretty common for comic's to introduce a character as a hero or villain so if the fans like the character Marvel or DC can then give the character their own comic run which was the case for Wolverine in the 1980s after he was added to the X-Men in the 1970s. Gambit is pretty cool: Gambit who fought Logan in this film is actually a member of the X-Men in the the comics he just hasn't shown up in any of the movies for some reason. Gambit was one of the new 90s Members and was heavily featured in the X-Men 1990s cartoon. He was even going to get his own solo Origin movie but because Wolverine Origins did so poorly the movie was scraped along with the other planned Origin movies. They really should've started with Origin movies like the MCU introduce each member and then have them come together to join the X-Men. I really love his 90s rendition. Next Films: The next movie is X-Men: First Class, favourited by alot of people and will no doubt be one of your favourites. Based loosely on the First Class comic the name hints at what the concept of the film could be about. This is then followed by The Wolverine a solid film based loosely on Wolverines solo run by Chris Claremont & Frank Miller. This is then followed by X-Men: Days of Future Past my personal favourite X-Men movie based loosely on the Days of Future Past comic. Without going into spoilers this movie does some funky stuff with the timelines which explains why Deadpool in Origins and the Deadpool movies are completely different along with retconning some other stuff. Deadpool released after Days of Future Past for context.

Funny -- on the show Lost, there are 2 background characters named Scott and Steve in the first season and everyone else keeps confusing one for the other. 😆

Byrd N. Hand

...and when will you react to Schindler's List (1993)? It was a runner up, with 19 votes behind The Last Samurai (2003), in your recent poll.

Alex Tan

Happy Friday, Addie! 😊 This is the only "X-Men" movie that I haven't seen. This is going to be a first time watch for me as well. The next one is one of my favorites in the series. Have a great day & weekend! 😊

Randee Carreno

Happy Friday, Addie. X-Men: Origins Wolverine (2009) looks like an epic origin story of how Logan became Wolverine. When you get to The Wolverine (2013), I highly recommend the Unleashed Extended Edition. BTW, I would never hate you for accidentially calling Scott "Steve".

Alex Tan

Would never hate you! You're my OG movie reacter!!
