CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR - Full Length Reaction!

Comments

Remember when Steve was talking down to Nick about a hypothetical scenario of Nick "compartmentalizing" the info about his best friend Bucky being alive? Yet in that same movie he himself learned that Tony's parents didn't die in an accident, they were murdered by Hydra, and he even thought it might have been Bucky who carried out the hit, yet he didn't feel the need to share that information with Tony, instead Steve "compartmentalized" it. Just a touch hypocritical...

Thank you for bringing your full self to this Addie. I appreciate your attention to the details and even the way you enjoy the music. It feels like watching with a friend. I can't wait to continue the journey.

Todd the Evil Overlord

wow if you're already this emotional at civil war you're gonna be a wreck when you get to infinity war, endgame and wandavision!! this was a great reaction though, and i really didn't appreciate this movie enough when it first came out so it's always fun to rewatch

Did you not see the part where he was holding onto the entire landing pad? The helicopter can't compromise that structure. So something was gonna give, and Steve surely wasn't gonna be it. Therefore, yes he pulled in the chopper. Theres not much to be annoyed at unless you don't like Cap.

Firmly on the side of Tony here - the Avengers need oversight. Pretty much everything that happens in the movie proves that the Avengers (both sides) have little to no concern for accountability, collateral damage or obeying the law. Cap's argument that "the safest hands are still our own" is not only absurdly arrogant (he's effectively saying his judgement is superior to everyone else's), it fails to take into account that that can only work if the Avengers can be trusted by the world - and almost everything they do suggests that they cannot. Placing the Avengers under oversight of the UN provides at least some democratic control and accountability - admittedly not much, but far more than existed before. I don't really agree with Wanda's "I can't control their fear" line either - yes, some people are always going to be irrationally afraid of her, but she then takes actions that provide very legitimate reasons to fear her, and those actions are very much under her control. On a different note, the scene where Steve stops the helicopter really annoys me. I can accept him holding it in place as he has leverage, but not him pulling it out of the sky without anything to hold on to - a little extra weight (and compared to a helicopter, that's all it is) would not stop it from taking off

I've alway thought Ross had more of agenda here than just "protecting" the world from the Avengers. He's wanted his own super soldiers since the Incredible Hulk days and I suspect that after getting them under U.N. control he planned on maneuvering himself into a leadership role so he could use the Avengers as he saw fit. This is mostly speculation my part but if you look at how aggressively he went after anyone, especially Cap, who didn't fall in line and completely ignored the evidence that Zemo was behind the bombing, it doesn't seem that far-fetched.

4 of my top 5 MCU movies were directed by the Russos. I hope they come back and do some more at some point.

Something a lot of people seem to miss is how Cap knew hydra killed Tony's parents. In winter soldier Zola says "Accidents happen" while he puts a newspaper article about their deaths in a car accident. That's why he said he knew it was hydra but not Bucky specifically. Since there is a good 3 movies in between this and Winter soldier it's kind of understandable that people would forget that. I know I did watching it my first time.

The nations of the world had already decided to outlaw the Avengers. If they do not comply with the accords, they are essentially criminals. Oversight may not be perfect, but Ultron would not have happened if there were people there to stop him from creating AI. Cap is right in a sense that people with agendas will take advantage, but the same can be said with the Avengers. Look at cap. He is so tunneled vision that he let himself be manipulated by Zemo.. There are no right sides here.

Yeah I know that it seems like the roles should be reversed but that's the magic trick Marvel pulled. Steve was by the books, following orders when we first met him. Tony was the freestyle cocky guy who never listens to anyone but himself. But their journeys have made them go polar opposite and it makes perfect sense. Tony has been trying to protect the world, but his decisions are constantly putting the world in danger, plus his trauma of losing people and relying on his tech to save everyone is blinding him. So he knows he can't be trusted behind the wheel. His best option is to give the keys to someone else, so someone better can make the choices for him. Cap was completely changed from the events of Winter Soldier. Shield being compromised by Hydra, Steve's trust in government is eradicated. He can't trust other people to make choices for him when there's the chance they might serve their own agendas instead of doing the right thing. So he will follow his own morals, that we've seen are nigh unbreakable. He can do this all day πŸ˜… Also small thing about Steve's Shield, no it can't be broken by a bomb πŸ˜† that Shield is made of Vibranium, the same metal the Black Panther suit is made of. It absorbs vibrations and reverberates them back out. If Thors Hammer can't break the shield with his godly strength, certainly nothing that Earth possesses could damage it haha so yeah thats why that Shield is so handy. And you seemed confused what Steve did to stop Tony in their final fight. Steve slammed his shield down into the Arc Reactor. No Tony doesn't need it to live anymore, but don't forget it's still the power source to his suit. So Steve broke off Tony's helmet, make him think he's gonna hit his face, leaving his chest defenseless, then he breaks the Arc Reactor, rendering his suit useless.

Wow, this was everything I'd hoped for. I was going to allude to what Matt, above, mentioned, but too late now.

Jim Schmitz

Your reaction to Peter Parker is exactly what i expected.

DazzMetalStorm

Unrelated, Addie since you love Paul Rudd, have you seen The Fundamentals of Caring? It's really good and heartwarming. Definitely worth a watch, on your own time if not for a reaction. Also, would recommend Before We Go, starring and directed by Chris Evans. As a romcom lover I think it'd be your kind of movie. (It's not a romcom, but kind of adjacent)

Alex Currie

Team Cap all the way. It's sad about Bucky and Tony's parents, but that wasn't the thing they fell out over, it just exacerbated the issue. Tony and Steve were both handling their own baggage - Tony's hyper-vigilance because of his PTSD from New York and then the guilt of having created Ultron (because of that PTSD), and Steve's distrust of authority after Hydra/SHIELD (when rules and regulation was all he'd known as a soldier) - and unfortunately they took the whole group down with them. Actually you can see the cracks starting to form during Age of Ultron. The connections and long-term story telling of the MCU is amazing.

Alex Currie

the people are being selfish ,had Wanda not stopped that bomb on the ground that would have killed 100s instead of 10 Wakandan's

zynjams

Yes that's Dean Pelton from Community. The Russo Brothers that directed this movie (and several other MCU movies) also directed most Community episodes. Jim Rash (who plays Dean Pelton) is also an Oscar-winning screenplay writer by the way. πŸ˜‚ You didn't recognize General Ross (Betty's father from The Incredible Hulk), who has since been promoted to Secretary of State.

Happy Thursday, Addie! 😊 Welcome to Phase 3 of the MCU! This really is the best Phase so far. And SURPRISE!!! You got to meet Tom Holland's Spider-Man before his first solo movie. And you got to meet Chadwick Boseman(RIP always! He sadly passed away in 2020 from colon cancer) as King T'Challa/Black Panther. And I would recommend having tissues on hand for the resr of Phase 3. Up next in Phase 3 is: "Doctor Strange". Have a great day today! 😊

Randee Carreno

This is top 5 MCU for me personally. The ability for the Russo brothers to balance out so many characters and give them importance in one film is an astonishing achievement.

Steve SG-1

Yes, Marvel movies do require tissues for the tears from here on out quite frequently.

The Dingo

Thank you πŸŒ„

DazzMetalStorm

oh yeah, this is the movie that sets the tone for the rest of the MCU going forward. Plenty tissues required.

LightsCameraJake

LETS GOOOOO

BTW, my girlfriend is a huge fan of Tom Holland and she even has a crush on him after seeing this movie. If you wanna react to more of them, then I would recommend Chaos Walking & Uncharted, which she & I both enjoyed.

Alex Tan

You're reactions are always fun to watch, Addie. As an IMAX fan, the airport battle is my favorite scene in the movie and it looked so cool when I saw it in IMAX 3D, back in 2016. If you enjoyed seeing Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in this movie, you're gonna enjoy his solo movies.
