Their world has powers, that changes things. Their world has options. Also, in their world, we know everything. We know who the scumbags are, who arent. We know all of this, and yet u r still willing to defend Garp allowing the sick government to do that to his grandkids? Hell nah

As someone involved in law, image if you were a judge and your child/grandchild committed a crime. Would you downplay your ruling on their case or risk your job/life to break them out? If so, then you would not be carrying out "justice". He told them time and time again to not be pirates, but that's what they did. And even if the Gov is hilariously corrupt, Ace and Luffy broke their BS World-Gov rules and were charged with crimes. Garp is one of the highest ranking marines, famous as the hero of the Navy. He has certain responsibilities/obligations. That being said, I agree he should have abandoned all that to help his family. Many parental figures would in this situation, but Garp didn't sacrifice everything. He cried/anguished over what was happening and even let himself get knocked out of the way so at least he was not actively standing in their way. That was probably the most he could come to terms with doing. Imagine you tell your child every day to not steal, but they keep getting in trouble all the time for it. At some point you're gonna say to yourself "I'm sad for my boy but this is on him and its the consequences of their actions". You were so mad at SKRAAB for turning on his own side, but Garp should have done the same and gotten a pass? Maybe he thought this was Ace's deserved punishment. Maybe he knows some things that you don't know about yet. Asking him to turn on the Navy would be asking him to abandon his morals/ethics and something he believed in for his whole life/career. The Gov is super evil, but so are a lot of pirates who the Navy battle against. Not saying white beard crew was evil, but they were a yonko crew attacking a gov facility, meaning the Navy had to defend hard to maintain their sphere of influence in the grand line. Of Garp should have helped Ace, but Garp ain't perfect. As evidenced by him leaving his grandkids with mountain bandits lmao. All I'm saying is, there is at least some reasoning there for why he didn't intervene more. Even though he definitely should have IMO
