2024-08-29 07:10:09 +0000 UTCHi. I think the power ups for moster trio were a given. Like luffy said the defeat with Aokiji was a reality check. Not only Luffy but to all. They are the main fighting force till now. They know if the admiral was serious, they would have lost their captain. Even if they didn't show we can assume that they tried to come up with ideas about what they might have done. They stayed put for few days too. And we always see how much zoro trains even in travels and sanji spars with him and luffy.

2024-08-27 22:03:28 +0000 UTCRegarding what you said at 11:04, it’s actually not a plot hole. Zoro would’ve been informed that they had 3 keys when Nami released zoro and usopp a few episodes back. Since zoro saw sanji had won that means they had all 5 including the one he just got.

2024-08-27 17:23:36 +0000 UTCAlright time for the big stuff; Ashura is arguably number 2 in the ranking of most controversial power-up in the entire series. For the simple fact that over 1000 eps into the series; and we *still* have no real answer into what pray tell it even is. Like, there's still legit debate as to whether or not it is simply an illusion or if Zoro can actually interact with things using his extra appendages. (Now there is a theory as to what it was *supposed* to be that I do actually subscribe to; but that idea is based around plot points that aren't going to show up for a while). As such: I disagree significantly with your editor when he talks about people in the east not requiring an explanation. Yes, eastern stories do tend to more heavily lean on the spiritual side of things, but even within the more metaphysical/symbolic side, there tends to be some level of internal logic. Studio Ghibli, for example, is arguably the single most imaginative set of examples anime stories; but even within something such as Spirited Away; there's still a clear connection the audience can make sense of both "how" things happened, and "why" things happened, even if they aren't exactly sure "what" is happening or causing them. I also strongly disagree with the idea that you can't use outer-cultural viewpoints to critique or criticize story ideas from other cultures. You can understand the cultural influences behind a story without necessarily agreeing with it. Case in point using shonen; the vast disparity in the roles and use of female characters is something that has a long-standing cultural history due to Shonen being marketed primarily at boys. But if we use the editors logic of "its not smart to apply western ways of thinking to writing made in the east" then critiques regarding the poor writing of Sakura, or the over-objectification of women in harem Shonen, or even just critiquing the lack of important females in general, are all topics that should be considered off limits as they are looking at it through a western perspective that values gender equality amongst well written characters. Frankly I think that's ridiculous notion. (Also incidentally, what was with that comparison of Russians critiquing Western stories? Is your editor not aware that's literally what's happening for almost 200 years? In both directions even; I genuinely cannot tell you the amount of Russian literature that has made global impact, any more than I can tell you the amount of Russian work that has been directly inspired and influenced by Western stories.)

2024-08-27 15:51:32 +0000 UTCIt's funny; you should say "who isn't afraid of dying" and yet we've already the answer to that in Luffy. Its not that he necessarily *wants* to die, but there's been at least 3 times since the start of the series where death is imminent for him, and he's basically gone "Oh well; time to die I suppose!"
