Stephanie Young needs more recognition in general. I actually think that line is one of the few sections that even dub haters can admit was done better in English, simply because she didn't need any vocal effects added to it.

You know, in hindsight? This was the episode that was the first hint that maybe *I'm* the problem when it comes to One Piece... Anywho; for some reason the anime (and editor) didn't say this, but you were right; the Marine that fired on the civilians is currently an Admiral. And it's not even a spoiler; the manga outright introduces him as "Sakazuki, later to be Admiral Akainu". Like, they didn't even pretend that it was supposed to be any sort of revelation down the line, not sure why the anime changed that. (Though it's facinating to see that even Spandams dad was appalled at his actions. Like for even someone like him to go "thats not right; you went too far" shows exactly how over the line Sakazuki went.) Incidentally; I'm now super curious about how the editor is going to work for the later episodes. He is absolutely right; at about 200-ish episodes from now, One Piece is going to plumet to near unfathomable levels in regard to the pacing. There's a particularly infamous scene later on where the anime takes literally 5 panels in the manga, and stretches it out to a minute and a half. So if your editor is going to go as far as condensing 5 eps into one for the flashbacks, I honestly wonder if he's going to do the same for other parts. (At the very least, there's absolutely 1 scene he needs to just cut right out if he can; the anime screwed up hard and made a slight change that ended up entirely negating one of the biggest twists within an arc.) Last thing; as someone that did stay and watch until the end of this vid? Don't sweat it my dude; we're here to watch you lol. Talk as much or as little as you need to; as long as it's your honest reaction that's all I can ask for~

Great reaction. The “I want to live” scene is still my favorite scene throughout the whole anime and manga. It’s what made one piece my favorite anime/manga, and now being caught up to the manga it’s my favorite piece of media I’ve ever consumed. I implore you to check out the “I want to live” scene in English dub, Robin’s voice actor did an absolutely phenomenal job.

One Piece attracted my curiosity from the pilot thanks to Luffy's charisma. I really got hooked on One Piece from the Arlong arc onwards. I was fascinated by One Piece from the Alabasta arc onwards. And One Piece officially became my favorite manga from this episode! "I want to live!" The story is just exceptional. Many people criticize One Piece for not really being a shonen nekketsu because Oda doesn't focus enough on fighting or training. Personally, I don't care at all! Seeing a story with such characters, such stories/backstories and such lore is just grandiose. And if One Piece is the best-selling manga of all time, that's probably why. As for Aokiji, let's say that he is a convinced marine and a complex character. He wants to offer HIS notion of justice to the Navy because he considers the Navy to be a force for good. The problem is that high-ranking officers of the navy respond to orders from the world government... So he knows that the superiors are corrupt but still wants to make his contribution. Like Smoker or other good marines. (This is not a spoiler. I am only summarizing the positioning of the character in this episode) That's why Saul tried to convince him. He knew that Aokiji wasn't really ok with this.
