2024-04-15 17:27:32 +0000 UTCDon't worry Lucky; *every* reactor gets blindsided by how fast Nekoma lost the match against Fukurodani. At this point in Haikyuu you're used to watching one set last like... 3 eps, so seeing a team like Nekoma lose 2 sets in 10 minutes throws everyone for a loop. (Side effect of having the OVA's adapt 9 manga chapters into a single episode instead of the usual 3 XD) Also Nekomas going to the finals wasn't just not easy; it was also massively lucky. The Volleyball Nationals in Japan have a thing called "Host Representatives". Basically, in order to keep an even number of teams (and as a thank you to the local governments) whichever prefecture is the holding the location of the national competition is allowed to have their runner-up team also compete. For example; if this years Nationals were held in Miyagi where Karasuno is from; then Shiratorizawa would also have been allowed to compete since they were the 2nd place winner in the prefecture. The current Nationals are being held in Tokyo, which is where Nekoma and the teams they faced here are from. Since the Tokyo prefecture is so huge, they already have the top 2 teams qualify; so the match between Nekoma and the Snakes was them fighting it out for 3rd place to be allowed to join Nationals as the "Host Reps". In other words; if this was happening in any year where Tokyo wasn't the one hosting; Nekoma would've lost the chance at nationals the moment they lost to Fukurodani.
