Nooooo Dorothy :( Somehow though I think Becky is the right person for her to talk to about this - Becky is pretty much the one person Dorothy hasn't been able to mother or help who actually cares about her, and Becky is a straight shooter. Hopefully she can help Dorothy straighten this out.

I also remember when I abandoned my dream. It's an admission of failure, that things didn't go the way you planned. Regardless of what you gain as a result.

POTUS is the most stupid job in the world. You get at most 8 years to do stuff and then the person after you will more than likely just undo any good will that you garnered over those 8 years.

I wonder. Is it because she (reasonably) thinks she could still make Prez without Yale? Or is it because she’s realizing leadership is often pretty thankless and is changing her POTUS goal? Or something else.

In my case it isn't because Yale is prestigious. It is because Yale was Dorothy's *dream* and now she is rejecting it. Which would worry me a lot less if Dorothy hadn't been so tense and on edge for a long while now.
Back when Dorothy first arrived, you almost never saw her be tense or emotional. Now she snaps in annoyance at people with almost no provocation. The first few times she confronted Roz, for example, it barely fazed her. Last time they clashed Dorothy was furious. We have seen so many examples of Dorothy being out of balance and reacting with uncharacteristic anger that it is causing me a great deal of worry. From there it is not far to start being concerned that her decision not to go to Yale is directly based on an acknowledgment that she is in no state to go there at the moment (best case) or even driven by frustration and anger that have morphed into a desire to punish herself (very much not a good case.)
In short, Yale as Yale is entirely immaterial to the situation. What I am afraid of is that Dorothy is managing so badly that she has fallen into self-sabotage.

I'm a little shocked that so many people are responding "oh no". Why? Because Yale is a Big Prestige School and IU is not? Nah. Ivy League is a mug's game. For mugs who believe the school name on the diploma and the cost of tuition determine the quality of the education and the success of the graduate. None of that is true — starting but not ending with the implicit assumption that job prestige is synonymous with success. Dorothy is wise enough to know if she really has good reasons to change her mind about her educational and career trajectory, and good reasons not to want to leave IU. Trust her to make her own choices.
