2023-07-04 21:30:06 +0000 UTCOkay so; quick clarification, because this is a mistake that pretty much every fan-translation of this arc gets wrong for some reason. The official rank given to the fat guy in Japanese is 'Junsho', or 'Commodore'. It's someone that is just above the rank of Captain, but lower then a Vice Admiral. It's also a rank that literally *did* *not* *exist* in the Marines at this point in time. Oda actually provided the fans an official list of how the Marines ranks are structured, and Commodore was not on the list. The Anime makers either weren't notified or thought that it wouldn't matter. Either way; I'm letting you know this because we eventually meet actual Admirals later on in the story and without spoiling anything; this dude has literally nothing on a manga-canon Admiral of the Marines.
