Just like Torfinn having these dreams, that are important, but just symbolic, the same way other scenes that'll be in future episode also have a symbolic purpose, it doesn't have to be taken literally. Thorfinn has nothing to do with the killing of Einar's family, I think he just feels guilty for the amount of people he killed, not knowing their stories, that they probably had a family. So he imagines that he was one of the people, who used to mercilessly kill people, so he was just like those people, who killed Einar's family.

But in this show its very common for various themes and feelings to be expressed through dreams. We shouldn't take everything at face value. Thorfinn is simply tormented by the idea of killing people. So he projects Einar's parents in his dreams as the representation of the innocent people that he killed in the past. He is clearly scared to repeat those feats with other innocent families. And the ages doesn't match either. Einar was grown up when his mother died, and in Thorfinn's dream he was a little kid, showing clear signs that he was "hallucinating" about it
