About Prefect Evocati.
Evocati was soldiers who completed their term of service (20+ years) and received an honorable discharge, but then joined the Roman army again at the invitation of a commander.
AND the term "prefect" refers to a specific officer role, and in the context of evocati, it could refer to a Praefectus Evocatorum, an officer IN CHARGE of the evocati.
So Lucius Vorenus was a commander of a veterans among veterans.

We agree Titus recognizing that Oct is smarter and willing to listen is major, since we know pride can get in the way. Loving Rome and all its characters so far

I was expecting to hate Octavius...from how he was in EP1 I thought he'd be like a Joffrey from GOT. He's definitely a moody little shit, but hes undeniably clever for his age. I find it really endearing how Titus recgonizes this and listens to his advice.

Hahaha I was waiting for your reaction to that Atia and Octavius scene! You guys definitely didn't disappoint with that one. Close relationships between rich older men and adolescent boys weren't uncommon, unfortunately. Atia's a freak for congratulating Octavius like that; but someone obsessed with power and status like her would probably hype up worse things if it made things go her way.
Romans were crazy with slaves. Absolutely fucking bonkers. The slave situation in Rome was crazy. In about 100 years after the show is set, it's estimated that up to 20% of the population were slaves.
It's terrible to put it this way, a lot of people in Rome looked at the slaves being brought back from Gaul the way people in America looked at Japanese cars in the 80's and 90's. A lot of people loved it; and lots of people hated it. And it made a LOT of money.
There was a scene earlier when Marc was with Atia where he was talking about taking off a Centurion's hands because he murdered a civilian. It was likely that Lucius knew that would be his punishment if he went through with the murder and was caught. He's a boy scout, but I'm sure that went through his head, too.
In a world of savages, Octavius is a capital S Savage.

This is my favorite episode of this season so far. So many cool scenes in this one...all the rituals portrayed were awesome. Basically every character is being developed in a way that makes them interesting in some fashion. As usual, hilarious and spot on commentary , FRR! Laughed my ass off many times
