So, this post is to announce a second book we have in the works. A little while ago I posted a draft of some monstrous professions that were for playing monster characters in The Nightmares Underneath, but I realized they didn't really fit with the main themes of Nightmares on Monster Island. I wanted to give them a setting where you could play a party that consisted entirely of monster PCs, maybe even with most of the NPCs they interact with also being monsters. The island of Inkstvarr doesn't do that (it's mostly suited for humans). But the Sakhab Wastes around the dead city of Ardoussarlis is perfect. So I threw together all of the monsters we have for that setting, and that's gonna be a book, so far titled Only Monsters Here.
Playable monster types include the chaos riders, dark elves, the cyclofean dragon witch, goblin mutants, goblin pirates, moon goblins, orcs, and probably trolls, too. Enemy monsters that lurk within the dead city include the bisector, the blind god, the crawling head, the dragonseer, the giant hunger, king buzzu, and more.
I still need to finish writing the overland travel rules for the wasteland and procedures for creating dungeons and treasures inside the dead city (similar to those in The Nightmares Underneath), and then do the full conversion and layout, but several monster sections are already complete (such as the recent goblin releases).
Most monsters we are making now will go either in this book or in Nightmares on Monster Island (until those book are done), or possibly into smaller adventure booklets set in the plains around the wastelands. Sometimes it feels a bit scattered to be sending monsters into multiple projects as Nathan sends them to me, but for many of them it just doesn't make sense to try to cram totally unrelated monsters into a book together.
I have attached a draft of the first 4 pages of Only Monsters Here that give an overview of how the setting came to be and who lives in it now.
