Money Stuff

So, hey.

You may have heard already, but this month Patreon is switching who pays their processing fees. Instead of us creators, now it will be you supporters. They are passing some of it on to creators, but mostly, this is an increase in both how much you will pay and how much of that money Patreon will keep.

The more people you pledge to, the larger their additional charges. A project that charges per-pledge instead of per-month will also incur more additional charges.

Patreon instituted a $1 minimum for pledges a little while ago. They also don't allow you to change the monetary value of reward levels. Instead, you have to create a new one and get patrons to select it. Both of these things make it impossible for creators to modify their projects to stop your fees from increasing without creating even more hassle for everyone involved.

I know other creators will be looking at alternatives to switch to. I have found Patreon to be a useful platform, personally, but honestly, they have done nothing for me beyond the minimum and I feel no particular loyalty.

That said, probably not much will change and we'll still be here next year. I've already replaced the old $2 tier with a $1 tier (which will now becomes $1.39, of course), and I would encourage you to re-examine your Patreon expenditures and make sure you are only pledging as much as you can afford. If that means dropping your pledge to this project, just know that I understand completely and I hope you will continue to look forward to more publicly-released monsters and the game when it is finished.

Cheers,

P.S. Here is the most interesting post I have seen about this so far: https://exilian.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=5446.0
