I think 99% of tables will be fine with casting Shillelagh with your wizard focus/warcaster rules.

But how does he cast Shillelagh as a wizard spell? That is the problem.

I don't think EK has a problem casting Shillelagh with hands full. The Quarterstaff can be both an arcane focus and a shillelagh. Warcaster takes care of the somatic and the quarterstaff = shillelagh = focus for material.

I'm just going to point out a misunderstanding of how Psi Warrior's Psionic Strike works. That features states:
"Once on each of your turns, immediately after you hit a target within 30 feet of yourself with an attack and deal damage to it with a weapon..."
As written, it triggers explicitly after the damage for the attack has been dealt. This makes it a separate instance of damage, which to me would suggest it does not get doubled by the effects of a critical hit, and has other quirky effects like causing a separate concentration check if the target is concentrating on a spell.
I wish it was just extra damage on the attack, but it doesn't seem to be written to work that way.

Hey Chris you mentioned before that you were playing your EK on a channel, but I forgot what video you mention the channel.

That's how I'd interpret it, fwiw.

You know Chris, I hadn’t thought of this until now but I bet you EK does better when it comes to Ranged. Since Ranged doesn’t have a ton of options anyways for increasing damage, this would be a good way to increase the damage and with the lower die type the impact from True Strike is greater.

Also, if you have access to 2014 races you could go for Thri-kreen or the Simic Hybrid and get around this issue.

I mean you could go no shield and still have a big stick. Eventually you get to 2d6, so although it’s not as great it does work.
This is also easily bypassed with a minor magic item like the Ruby of the War Mage or your DM being pretty easy going about stuff like this like most DM’s are.

Question, I know maintaining concentration is not guaranteed and neither is the ability to precast a 10 minute duration spell, but no DPR increase at 18 for the Psi warrior getting telekinetic master at 18? Have to think the BA attack chance would be higher than 18% between GWM and having telekinesis up.

I’m curious about your thoughts on this: Does the new Haste spell allow you as a Eldritch Knight or Valor Bard to with War Magic/Extra Attack to replace the haste’s attack action attack with a cantrip? 2014 Haste used to say
“it gains an additional action on each of its turns. That action can be used only to take the Attack (one weapon attack only)”
Now it says
“it gains an additional action on each of its turns. That action can be used to take only the Attack (one attack only)”
With it no longer specifying “weapon attack” could it be replaced with a Cantrip via those features? Or possibly even a cantrip with an attack like True Strike or Starry Wisp?

Ah, I hadn't realized that the Magic Initiate:Druid origin feat does not carry with it the ability to cast those cantrips or that one level-one spell using a Druidic focus. Material components - "the spellcaster can substitute a Spellcasting Focus if the caster has a feature that allows that substitution." And the Eldritch Knight says only that you can use an Arcane Focus as a spellcasting focus for your Wizard spells. So there goes my shield + big stick EK dreams...

Yeah, EK does worse in Greatsword build, but I would assume it does much better in dual wielding builds - especially since you have more (but weaker) attacks ergo using blade ward isnt as painfull.

I realize this. I just did not know where to ask such a question?

I wonder if a dual wielder EK would be better than great sword. Maybe grab Hex.

I think my next fighter is going to be a psi warrior shillelagh build. But we are more flexible with the RAW spell casting focus rules at my table so I would be able to have a shield with no issues

Shillelagh is not a wizard spell though, you have to get it via magic initiate. EK can use an arcane focus for "wizard spells" specifically. There was a big reddit discussion about this recently. Druids, rangers w/ druidic warrior, and warlocks with pact of the tome are the only classes that can do Shillelagh + shield. At least that is my understanding based on the RAW discussions.

Second this. This would allow the Shillelagh EK to also use a shield, while still being able to cast True Strike. That would make this build much better, no?

I'm still torn between which I like more, Battle Master or Eldritch Knight. Both are cool as hell. EK seems to have more mobility on the battlefield and utility off of it.
One slight edge the BM has over the EK is that for control effects, it's less MAD to get a good save DC. In particular, Trip Attack against flying enemies with ranged weapons is a nice tool to have in the kit.

I have always considered paladin ranger and warlock similar classes and each get divine favor, hunter's mark, hex
I might take fey touched and snag hex or hunter's mark
Hunter's mark is verbal. I might consider fey touched HM as early as 4th level on any martial build

A question. A staff (which also functions as a quarterstaff) is listed as options under both Arcane Focus and Druidic Focus at the same 5 GP cost (though, the Druidic one must be wooden). Could the same object function as both, in your opinion?
