Do you think interception can be used to reduce damage on an attack against yourself?

Tyler Huff

My 14 year old daughter wants to dip fighter 1 level then into monk. Asking me all kinds of optimisation questions. #prouddad

Matthew Beswick

Thank you Chris. I did mean Flexible! It’s a synonym and I’m tired :). Thanks again!

Matthew Beswick

I posted a full screenshot of the weapon table in my rules changes video (the video that went public on my channel Aug 1st) but to save you some time, the versatile property is still there. What you might have been hearing about was the flex mastery property which was on versatile weapons in the early playtests was abandonded.

Treantmonk's Temple

Full weapon table with Weapon Masteries listed. Is it available to be viewed somewhere? I recall hearing that versatile was removed. So I’m keen to know how things ended up for all weapons in the final PHB.

Matthew Beswick

I could still see taking GWF with someone who was planning on taking GWM with a greatsword. Thats +1 damage, +2 from proficiency with great weapon master another point from higher base damage with greatsword, not bad overall.

Great Weapon Fighting style is very nice on a Double-bladed Scimitar. It is on average +1,5 dmg per hit.

Bartosz Czaplewski

Dualist gives +2 damage, which is supposedly comparable to Archery's +2 to hit if you're gaining multiple attacks for scaling. 2d6 is average damage 7. Rerolling 1s and 2s boosts that to 8.33. Allowing "advantage" on 2d6 (roll 4d6 and keep the highest 2) would have an average of 9.34, advantage on 1d12 would be 8.49. +2 is 44% of 4.5 (1d8). +2.34 is 33% of 7 (1d12), so it's not even as big of a buff. Or, great weapon fighting could just be +1d4 to damage with two-handed and versatile weapons.

I'm absolutely sure Two Weapon Fighting applies its ability modifier damage to both offhand attacks when you have both Nick and Dual Wielder! You may underestimate it, because it may for example allow Rogues to get 3 full fledged attacks at level 4 (one main hand, two off-hand) "as a result of using a weapon that has the light property" is probably just a more clunky name for what's commonly called an offhand attack. They can't say "when attacking with a weapon that has the light property" because this would include the "normal" extra attack you get from Fighter/Barb/Ranger level 5. They also can't say "offhand attack" because then they'd need a paragraph defining "offhand attack" somewhere. Also note: they say "extra attack as a result of using a weapon that has the light property", not "extra attack as a result of applying the light property" or anything like that.

Tomislav Tomic

It’s towards the end of the thrown weapon style. There’s no timestamp for it.

TundraBoy

I didn't see a Two Weapon Fighting Style in the video. Where ar you getting that info?

Tony Glass

Given that great weapon master applies a damage bonus to longbows, Archery seems like a solid pick for strength-based two-handed fighters and barbarians needing a reliable ranged option. Especially given the lack of other solid options.

Daniel Runyon

The "as a result" wording of the two-weapon fighting style might be open to interpretation to allow it to work with Dual Wielder. The extra attack granted by Dual Wielder requires you to make an attack with a light weapon, so you are making that extra attack "as a result of using a weapon that has the Light property." Seeing as it doesn't say "when you use the light property to make an extra attack," there's some wiggle room there.

Ben Gabinet

I'm not sure if you mentioned this in the video or not, but can you take a fighting style feat if you are class that doesn't get one. Barbarian, Rogue, Spellcaster, etc?

Craig Stuart

In some ways it’s like the best parts of Shield and Silvery Barbs had a (melee) baby

4RoryVT

Two people using protection on eachother round after round sounds so good

Nicholas Arosemena

it adds 1.5 to double blade scimitar main attacks

Nicholas Arosemena

No, just the weapon damage

Treantmonk's Temple

It will increase d6 by 0.5 in average, I know it seems like a suboptimal option but, I am not sure about wording, please enlighten me. What if you use true strike with greatsword attack and at the same time you use smite as bonus action, does it increase damage of true strike and/or smite either?

Okan ŞANLI

The new version of great weapon fighting seems like it would be more fun (and less disruptive) now on a character with a double bladed scimitar since its damage dice is 2d4 with a 1d4 bonus action attack.
