I think the shield spell could work where it simply takes damage and then is dispelled. You cast shield and it absorbs X amount damage until your next turn and then dissipates. 1d10 a spell slot level possibly and it's works versus all damage and seperate from temp HP. 9th level up cast might be 50hp.

I feel honored about the black coffee shout-out (@SortKaffe on YouTube) 🖤☕
While prolonged durations (preferably 1 hour) could certainly alleviate the issue somewhat, Produce Flame, Shillelagh, and Magic Stone still cause a common rules argument with your DM. Specifically when you activate either with your Bonus Action and then try to follow it up by casting a leveled spell with your Action. I hope the inconsequential rule on Bonus Action Spellcasting (PH p202) is replaced with a more general rule that you can only cast one spell of level 1 or higher per turn. That would make the changes to Action Surge and Quickened Spell obsolete and prevent the silly situation where you’re able to counterspell Counterspell against your own spell (unless you’re casting said spell with your Bonus Action). It has never made sense that you’re able to cast Counterspell in the middle of casting another spell (with your Action) without interrupting your initial casting. Since Playtest 7 Counterspell is no longer in the hands of the caster, the time is ripe for removing said interaction. Instead, you are able to buff your own Constitution save against it (I hope the War Caster feat will help with that too).
