Love the video.
I don't like gimmicky builds either that depend on a spell, one animal form, or a feat/ weapon set up
No one in our last one shot used a +2 dagger.... it sat there... crazy.
With martials caster divide
1. BS hp progression. 4 of 6 is 67%, 5 of 8 is 63%, 6 of 10 is 60%, 7 of 12 is 58%. IMO just give max value. The difference between 20 level fighter and wizard is 40hp or so, but with max it is 80hp. That's significant
2. With HP progression using max die then life is much more dangerous for wizards
3. Then surviving as a caster means greater rewards as you progress.

Assuming they fix the cleric smite thing, I'd agree the paladin is looking quite strong. I am liking this fighter over the 2014 fighter. I just feel like they're missing the versatility divide and just focusing on big damage and combat survival.

The Paladin Playtest version looked too strong to me. I would say the new fighter looks as good as the new ranger though.

I personally think the fighter is improved but not nearly better in the sense that it compares well to other classes for the rest of the game. The One DnD Bard and Rangers are better examples, I think, because they do get spells but they also get much better skills and more versatile class features. My view on the martial-caster divide is solely that pure martials lack what most other classes get. Your subclass videos showed you scoring Paladin at the highest average and fighters and barbarians down at the bottom. It's more than just damage that the martials need to compare well with other classes, and solely needing Shield and similarly powered spells wouldn't be enough, in my opinion.
