Chris, Read over my scant notes - it was the first remote game so a lot of focus on hearing and going Theater of the Mind - the Path to the Grave/Inflict wounds went for 44 dmg as a 2nd level cleric - the necromancer level was the last taken so only benefited once from Grim Harvest. But now I recall he has a Familiar to deliver Inflict Wounds from a safe distance. The other option was Divine Soul sorcerer and take Distant Metamagic but that burns resources vs a Familiar use.

Inflict wounds is an interesting way to go, yes, you can kill things with that. Did you find the 2 levels necromancer was worth the small amount of healing it provided?

Considering multi class possibilities, the Necromancer I’ve used briefly (2 levels) with a Grave Cleric (2 levels) or any way to get Inflict Wounds does boost the opportunity to be deadly with a necromancy spell, as you mentioned those are a challenge to be deadly with. (Standard against the big bad has been to hold Channel Divinity Path to the Grave just before attacking). So that brings me to ask what are thoughts on “going nova”?

Kind of how I expected it to end. I can’t argue with anything you said. While war mage may be “better” than divination wizards the ability to force a failed saving throw sure does feel good :)
