The Storied Sword Demo

Y'all may or may not have seen that we finally posted a public demo of Project Sword, now officially titled "The Storied Sword."  Your support during this project is so appreciated, and I can't thank you enough!   The demo is the first world of the game.  If you download the work-in-progress build from the patreon builds, you'll (usually) be able to play much more of the game -- we're currently f...

Project "Sword"

If you follow me on twitter, you may have seen that I posted a screenshot of a new side project. I don't like to sit still, so while waiting on new art for Halcyon from the talented Frankengraphics, I decided to start a new medium-sized project: an action side-scroller platformer. The bread and butter of the NES, but I've never actually tried making something in that genre.

This game will be taking a lot of cues from Ninja Gaiden and Batman: focusing on fast-moving action like ninja g...

Halcyon menu work

Hey all, just wanted to send an update along.  The past few weeks I've been working through the title/menu system for Halcyon. While kind of unexciting (it's just menus!), I want the initial impressions of the game to be good, so I wanted menus that looks and feel really nice.

Ellen (frankengraphics) mocked up some nice menus with transitions, so I've been busy making them work. With anything on the NES, small simple things end up taking a lot of time:

- making planet Halcyo...

Testing Anguna Co-op dungeon rush

Hey all,
As the kickstarter for Anguna has finished up, I'm scurrying to finish the stretch goal content: a random dungeon mode that includes 2-player co-op. I'm currently looking for folks that have a friend or family member that would be interested in trying out the co-op mode together.

If you have someone to play with, and are interested in trying it out early, let me know.

Quadtari and Arkade Rush

Hi all, again, thanks for your support!

A few updates in the world of Bite the Chili Productions:

- Frankengraphics has been reworking level graphics for Halcyon.  I don't have any new updated builds for y'all yet, but hopefully soon! We're still inching towards the finish line.

- While I'm waiting, I've finished my Atari 4-player adapter project (the QuadTari), and have been assembling and shipping those like crazy! ZeroPageHomebrew did a recent long stream about th...

Happy New Year updates

Hey all, again, thanks for supporting me!

A few updates:

- I've been working with Frankengraphics on the lava area of Halcyon. I have the whole area roughed out now (see attached picture!), so it's vaguely playable, but has a lot of broken functionality and enemies so far. She's going to go back rework the tiles to make the whole area pretty with her nice lava tileset.  Builds with this content are available in the daily builds link.

- Anguna is finished, and we're wo...

Anguna Zero graphics updates

Speaking of daily builds, the past few days have been a lot of minor graphics updates to Anguna Zero.

The folks at the 6502 collective convinced me to get an artist (2bitcrook) to do a light reskin of the graphics, to make them look a bit more NES-centric instead of scaled-back versions of GBA graphics.

He's delivered most of the graphics to me (other than the hero sprite), so I'm working through replacing everything. It's not a major change, so you might not even notice, but if ...

Automatically updated patreon builds

Hey all, to make it easier for y'all to get to play up-to-date versions of my games, and to make it easier for me to hand out links, I decided to set up a web page where the latest builds of my games will get automatically deployed after any changes.

You can follow the link above ( http://www.bitethechili.com/patreon ), and log in with patreon, and it will take you to the downloads page. I only have a few thing...

Updates

Hey all, just wanted to keep everyone posted about things going on on my end! First, thanks for your continued support!

- Halcyon is moving again. Ellen has finished up commitments with Project Blue, and is working hard on new content for Halcyon! Many of you might have already seen her new in-progress tileset for the Halcyon ice area on twitter: https://twitter.com/FrankenGraphics/status...

Halcyon Ice Area Demo

Hey all!

Just wanted to keep everyone posted on my progress!

Anguna Zero is mostly done, although the folks at the 6502 collective (who I'm publishing it with) have convinced me to hire out some graphics work to spiff up the graphics a little bit, so I'm just waiting on it at this point.

So back to Halcyon! I don't have anything new from Frankengraphics at this point, but I've mapped out the whole next area (an icy area) of the game, and filled it with enemies (using so...

Anguna Zero Update

Anguna Zero is coming along well, with a lot of testing the past few weeks!  Here's an updated build with a lot more polish than the last build had. I'm hoping to get any last issues taken care of in the next week or so, then start thinking about cartridge production plans!

Also -- just wanted to put the call out one more time -- If you'd like to be listed in the credits as a patreon supporter, just reply and tell me by what name you'd like to be credited!

Thanks for your s...

So...if you'd like to listed in the credits, send me a message with whatever name you'd like to be credited by.

I hope you're all staying healthy and sane!awesome.

Anguna Zero map comparison

Well, while everyone is locked down and isolating, and I'm still waiting on some assets for Halcyon, I thought I might be able to get Anguna Zero knocked out quickly.

There's still some more work to do, but I just wanted to show the comparison of the world maps between the Atari and the NES version.   Because of the huge difference in how the systems' displays work, room layouts were one of the things that I changed completely between versions (although the overall flow of the...

Secret Project Prevew (sssh)

Can you all keep a secret? I've had some downtime on Halcyon while I'm waiting for some new assets from Frankengraphics (who's been busily preparing for the release of Project Blue, so I can't complain!).  I don't like to sit idle, so I decided to see what I could accomplish in the meantime.

One of the things I wondered was whether I could quickly manage to take my Atari 2600 version of Anguna, keep the game logic and data, and rewrite all the IO, and have a simple-but-reasonably...
