The dirty truth

I must take at least some responsibility for DPR being used as a primary metric to evaluate builds, so this video exposes the truth - DPR is a pretty lousy tool in build evaluation. I go over the various reasons why, and discuss how useful DPR actually is in build evaluation.

CharOp forums' glaring problem in a nutshell. Thank you.

Yes I am convinced. While you are absolutely right over and over I still feel like DPR calculations if done consistently and intelligently (how much damage can this creation do with the moons align is not useful) is a great way to set expectations. As a War gamer I am amazed at how people get frustrated when they get a bad result. Often times after I run the numbers for them off the top of my head and they are shown that the dice did not betray them but instead they got a reasonable outcome. That can be useful in D&D also. As almost always you are spot on with this video. I have my own way to calculate damage with the many (but not all) the flaws you list in this video. I do it to set my own expectation and I like to work the numbers. Sometimes the exercise is the point :) Be Well,

They will not like it I assume.

Good video. I'm curious to see how it's received around the communities.

Can't wait for the non-patreon version of this to go live so I can re-post it for discussion with my DPR friends :)
