Patron Early ad-free Release - Patrons and Pacts

I'm still hopeful that GoOlock may get reworked a bit in a later sourcebook to include whatever psionics mechanics they are introducing in Tasha's. Felt weird that Warlock got no love with psionics in UA given GoOlock feels like a perfect choice to include that on (even though it wouldn't be a net new subclass). Maybe then it could have more interesting features.

I would have pact of the blade use Cha with their pact weapon for sure. I would get rid of hex warrior completely. Then I would have Hexblade curse scale so the prof bonus to damage is once on your turn until level 10 when it scales to every time you do damage.

Love your point about Hexblade being poor game design, it gives too much at first level. It becomes such an obvious dip for a charisma class and the obvious selection for a warlock patron, that it makes creatively looking at other similar options feel bad for optimizers. What do you think would be a good fix? The best one I heard was moving hex warrior to pact of the blade (see Malisteen in this forum https://forums.giantitp.com/showthread.php?610925-Fixing-the-Hexblade/page3). This makes the ridiculous dip less appealing and opens up other viable patrons for Pact of the Blade. It also leave an interesting hex based warlock patron that doesn't need to use a weapon. What do you think?

Enjoyed your evaluation, and I totally agree that Hexblade is far and away the most powerful, especially at low levels!

I wouldn't make any check like that unprepared for sure. With Enhance ability, bardic inspiration and Guidance you are probably fine.

For Pact of the Tome with the Book of Ancient Secrets, I believe you need to make an arcana check equal to 10+spell level to successfully inscribe from a scroll (DMG p.200). I think that without proficiency in Arcana and maybe some additional bonuses from Intelligence, you will be wasting a lot of money trying to transcribe scrolls into your Tome.
