How to install???
Added 2024-12-25 02:29:14 +0000 UTCRarely, but still, I get asked how to install the content that I publish. After 3+ years, I finally decided to take the time to write a small tutorial so that there are no more questions and errors.
So. You have downloaded one of my maps. Usually it is a 7z archive, which can be unpacked with the 7zip program
Now you have two options. You want to install for Garry's Mod or Source Filmmaker.
------ Let's start with Garry's Mod ------
1. In Steam, right-click the game and open properties. Then go to the "installed files" tab and click the "Browse" button to open the folder where Garry's Mod is installed.
2. Go to the /garrysmod/addons/ folder
3. Сeate a folder there with the desired name, preferably without spaces or any special characters. You should have something like garrysmod/addons/mynewfolder/
4. Next, you need to unpack almost everything that is in the downloaded archive into this folder. Usually these are several folders. materials, models, maps, sounds, lua, etc. Transfer everything except the _sfm_fixes folder (if there is one). And the buld file (I leave this file just to know when the current build was compiled, this file is not needed for anything).
5. Congratulations. Everything is ready. You can launch the game and admire the new map.
5.1. If you need to have models from local addons in the spawn list, then install this add-on. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=104603291
------ How to install in Source Filmmaker ------
1. We repeat the same as with Garry's Mod. Properties, installed files...
2. Go to the /game/ folder
3. Similar to point 3 for Garry's Mod, create a folder.
4. Similar to point 4 for Garry's Mod, transfer the folders from the archive.
5. _sfm_fixes folder. If this folder is not in the archive, then simply skip this point. If the folder is there, then go into it, there is usually a materials folder, which needs to be copied with the replacement of files OVER the previously transferred main folders. These are fixes that correct some problems with unsupported materials.
6. Launch Source Filmmaker and select to launch the SDK.
7. In the window that opens, click "Edit Search Paths..." And put a check mark next to your created folder. Click OK. Now the launcher can be closed.

8. Congratulations, you have installed the content in Source Filmmaker. 😄
Why can't you just copy everything mindlessly to the root of the game or to usermod??? Because you're cluttering up the game, then you simply won't be able to find what exactly is causing the problems and you'll have to delete everything. In the case of Gmod, root folders no longer accept third-party files, as I was told, this was done intentionally. Use the addon system. In the case of SFM, it's simply more convenient, you can disable unnecessary content at any time or quickly identify the source of the problems.
I hope there won't be any more questions on this topic. I'll just leave a link to this post in the readme file, release descriptions.
