I thought that this was gonna be a cute little OT7 video but instead I got hottie McHotterton Yoongi dropping some cold, hard BARS on us! 🔥
I'm always in the mood for some Yoongi so this was a special treat to my ears and my soul - I love the fact that this man always speaks his truth and shares it with the world. What a blessing it is to be living in the same timeline as this man hehe.
I thought of some theories regarding what this song could mean but I'd love to hear your thoughts on it too! MWAH!

2025-01-12 04:09:38 +0000 UTCI love Shadow so much! It's a really complex theme but I feel you interpreted the MV and lyrics so well! Yoongi started talking a lot about how scary is to be at the top and I think started to use that analogy of flying so high that it's cold and lonely since 2019. I don't remember which member said this but it was something like they gaining so much popularity in a short time and working non-stop doing things never did before felt like if you go on a hot air balloon ride with your friendd but your balloon never stops going up and it gets really scary 😥 in 2021 BTS started using the analogy that they are so high and enjoy some things again but they are afraid to crash instead of peacefully landing (like losing fast or easily their popularity, passion and the way people appreciates them as artists).

2025-01-11 20:41:22 +0000 UTCWith all the hoopla nonsense against Yoongi this past year this song really hits home even more now 😭 "no one told me how lonely it is up here" is so sad. I don't think anyone here has mentioned it yet but lyrically this song is very similar to a poem Yoongi wrote for a Run BTS episode in 2018. This is an excerpt: "Though we dreamt of a high sky, it is high here, and cold, and so hard to breathe It is true that the more light that burns upon us, the more shadows appear What a relief, that we are seven What a relief, that we are together" 🥺 (All of the other members' poems are also amazing, highly recommend that episode!! I think it's in the Picnic series which is ep 53-56)

But this is one of the reasons why i love them so much. I love deep stuff 🤭 i hope one day you are willing to explore more..

After you listen to Hobi's song Outro:Ego you should watch an explanation video for RM's Intro:Persona, Suga's Interlude:Shadow and J-Hope's Outro:Ego because these 3 songs all connect to each other. There are 2 YT channels you can choose from and either one will be great. Either DKDKTV or Bookish Theories. Both do a great job of explaining and have a lot of the same info. But i love this song and Map of The Soul 7 is a special album to me because although i knew about BTS in 2018, Map of The soul 7 is when i really started listening to BTS in the middle of 2020 and the album was released at the end of 2019. So this song was a repeat when i first heard it and watched the explain video that also helped me to learn more about who the members were through their music. The first time i had ever done that with any type of music. I really can't wait for you to get back into the album reactions, it is some of my favorite reactions. Also, since you didn't mention it so i don't think you noticed but in the beginning there are numbers and letters that keep appearing and it reads "O! R U L8 2?" which is the name of their second album.

The other ‘him’ is his shadow talking to him, his inner self. I don’t want to spoil the context too much, when you continue doing the chronological album reviews and eventually get to the Map of the Soul albums you’ll be able to understand the theme of the albums better (it’s based on Carl Jung’s Psychology theories), also when you do, it would be great if you started implementing the use of ‘Doolset’ which is a website where you can find accurate lyric translations with helpful additional key knowledge and context on the meanings behind the songs, most reactors eventually realise that colour coded lyric videos do not do BTS’ lyrics and wordplay justice sadly, especially when we get to songs that have very specific themes running throughout such as MOTS (but honestly every album) so watching the colour coded lyric video first and then screen recording the doolset lyrics afterwards for each song would be great, it also helps us to know what context you’re missing or what you already know, so we can comment extra information accordingly 💜💜

This was one of the earliest videos I watched in my baby Army journey, and it completely blew me away and opened my mind to the potential of what BTS was and could be. Between this and Black Swan, I just had no idea they could be so DEEP. They create real art. (And fun stuff, too, of course.)
