I totally agree! Very enjoyable, yet utterly captivating. Such a great balance ❤️

I had been waiting for this one, but hadn't been in the right state of mind to watch it until now. I love, love, love how much it sucked you both in right from the start. This film perfectly straddles that line between being hardcore Sci-Fi, and being "the moviest movie to ever movie". It gives you so much to think about, whilst also saying, "Yeah, but don't think too hard about it, since it's just a movie"; and yet, you kinda can't stop yourself from wondering about the implications. Is society truly in the wrong for going down this path? Is anyone who chooses to rage against this new paradigm truly in the right, be it morally or sociologically? This movie engenders such conversations, all whilst having a lot of genuine FUN with its own ideas. It's so bleak, and yet, so watch-able.

So many amazing lines, but "I never saved anything for the swim back." Really hits hard. One of the best lines in any movie ever IMHO.

I've never heard of any of these, that's very exciting! I'll add them to the list.

We've seen District 9, Ex Machina, and 12 Monkeys, they're on our YouTube/Patreon if you want to check them out! And thanks for the other recommendations!

I like that way of looking at it. It does feel hopeful!

Not a sci-fi movie but a similar movie about struggle and success is the Hindi movie called "12th Fail" you guys should check it out

I have to say, I've never myself nor heard anyone else clock the lack of art in this film as a consequence of engineering the hardship out of life -- great call. Seen this movie a million times and the more I see it, the more I see the production running out of money as the cause behind the lack of set decor. This and Blade Runner are always my go to flicks to see what people get out of movies and what to show them next. That said, recs for movies similar to this are a bit hard as it's a very singular film. But I'd throw these at you and see where you go from there: -Colossus: The Forbin Project -Silent Running -The Quiet Earth -U Are the Universe -Code 46

Fun Fact #2!!! The janitor supervisor old man is portrayed by Academy Award winner (Best Actor) Ernest Borgnine. He won his Oscar ™️ for the film "Marty" in 1955. (it's actually a great film, and strangely way ahead of its time, looking back). Anyway! The fun fact is, I met him and got a candid photo with him in 1978 while he was filming "Convoy" in New Mexico. Of course, the photo has been lost to time, since 3 of my sisters were also in the photo, and it got passed around a lot for bragging rights, and just got lost 😭. Anyway! Fantastic actor that I met in real life! Fun Facts!!

Fun Fact! The office building they work in was filmed in the Marin County, California, Civic Center. You can see MANY photos and videos of it online, because it was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The "fun" part is that I lived across the street from that building for about 12 years! The parking lot hosts a weekend Farmers Market that, to me, is the benchmark for all farmers markets! It has a fantastic library inside, and I served Jury Duty 3 times in that building! The annual Marin County Faire is hosted there as well, and I saw some great musical performances by great bands like KC & The Sunshine Band, and Earth Wind & Fire!! Anyhoo, fun facts!

Thank you for reacting to "Gattaca". It's been several years since I last watched it and didn't recognize Tony Shalhoub in his supporting role until this viewing. I think of "Gattaca" as carrying a message of hopefulness - that people can sometimes overcome their own limitations through self-belief and sheer determination. Apparently, Uma and Ethan preferred the old ways of leaving some things to chance - stranger things have happened!

One of my favorite films. There aren't enough films like GATTACA. I saw someone mention Moon in the YT comments, which is also great. I'll call out Children of Men which is similarly thoughtful, beautiful and a bit of a bummer.

I have been an avid viewer of your channel for a while. The last few years have been really hard and although it may seem odd, a handful of reaction channels have helped me carry through, yours is one of the big ones and I wanted to say thank you. This last week I’ve been wanting to message and offer whatever would be a reasonable contribution in Patreon for reactions to my three favorite movies. What’s crazy is that you just did one of them, Gattacca. “I never saved anything for the swim back” is one of my all time favorite movie lines.
